  1. I think it is really down to personal choice too, and of course the individual bird. I have one I allow on my shoulder and one I don't. My younger bird isnt bonded to me and I wouldnt trust him to not bite me or to step up from my shoulder. I'm not worried about a dominance thing really, just that my ears and eyes etc would be intact  BTW I love your username.... but I can't stand Guinness;) Have you any ties to Ireland? Or are you just fond of Guinness?

    Alfie

He is really lovely;) I love the one where he is asleep:) !
  3. Trustdace wrote: Its no wonder she loves it, I bought a couple about 3 months ago, now I have to try to get them as big as that one  And Dan is right. Your pictures are beautiful. Of course the fact that the subject of your pictures is a baby grey really helps;)
  4. Hello Jim, Welcome to the grey forum and congratulations on your new baby! Siobhan

    Long shot.

    And you can't cuddle a fish:laugh:

    Long shot.

Well Alex, Dr Irene Pepperberg's grey could recognise shapes and reading is about recognising shapes. However Alex had worked for 8 hours a day to learn these skills. The grey would have to be smart, but it would also have to have good attention span, be able to concentrate well, no distractions. In theory, its possible, but it really is a long shot isnt it;)?
  7. Yes same here... Or Liath would be standing on the top of the book peering down at the pages:laugh:
  8. Well its as good a reason as any:laugh:
  9. I had the same problem with Oisin where my hands looked like mince meat from his nails. I put a cement perch in the part of the cage he likes to sit in most and it improved within a week. I moved it then to be beside his food dish because I didnt think it would be good for his feet to use it constantly. It would be cheaper and less traumatic than a vet visit to try this first.
  10. Isabeau is a lovely name. When do you think you will know if its a he or a she?
  11. Well firstly I think that lucky bamboo behind Congo is amazing! How old is it do you know?? I think Congo is too young to do model training on speech. When she can say a few words it will probably work much quicker and she will get the idea easier. Right now it is probably frustrating for her because she can't yet do what you want her to do. Why not use the model training for something else, like colour recognition and see how that goes?
  12. I have the same problem with Oisin where I am not the chosen one. Oisin was 1 recently. And in the past few weeks I am slowly slowly getting round him. I sit him on the back of a chair beside me when I eat and give him little nibbles. I put him on the arm of the sofa beside me when I watch tv. I am just there near him and not bugging him. Lately I have been able to give him head scratches on his terms only. And last night I had a breakthrough where I rubbed his head for a little while. And when I stopped he pushed his head back under my hand to ask for more:) I am so happy:) . He still wont tolerate me at all if his Daddy is within earshot though. He is his Daddys boy through and through. But this has taken almost a year:ohmy:
  13. Congratulations!! Have you any pictures yet? You know we love pictures;)
  14. Yes she has you trained well. Perhaps its time for a turnaround? How about you train her to fly over and flick the light switch on on command, or fly into the kitchen and pick you up a banana, or fly over to the sofa and collect the remote control for you. Lets see how she likes being the slave for a while
  15. No me neither. But we don't know the ins and outs of it, they must have had very good reasons. He seems to be a very balanced bird all the same, considering all he has been through. Thank you for the updates
  16. What about getting pellets for a smaller parrot to start with and then moving to the bigger ones later? The smaller pellets should soften easier.
  17. Dan I'm sorry to say I think its finally time to send in the men in white coats... you've definitely lost the plot
  18. That is a great picture! Very original;) .
  19. I had voted yesterday. I preferred Delilah for a girl, so I am glad your childcare mums chose it
  20. No don't forget it. Just modify it a little;) . There are loads of cute things our birds can say.
  21. I have left my greys a couple of times in the care of my husband. Liath in particular is quite funny when I come home. She is all over me for the first little while, and then its as if she remembers that she planned on being mad, and she ignores me and won't come near me for an hour or so. Then she comes back looking for more cuddles than ever. Enjoy your holiday Caroline, Keeko and Charlie will be fine. At least they can chat to each other and watch what the other one is doing during the day when your husband is working. And be warned they will be surgically attached to you for a few days when you get back;)
  22. Greys can get cuts like this one from scratching too vigorously also. Aloe vera and regular baths would help prevent that also.
  23. Well done on the toilet training! In your case the vet did recommend you do it yourself. You did your homework, you knew what you were doing and you did it fine. Well done! Lots less stressful for everyone concerned;)
  24. The first link isnt working for me But I can see him fairly well in the static one.
