Ok ladies! The game is on again! Let me start;) CHEMICAL ANALYSIS OF MAN Element: Man Symbol: Ma Quantitative: Accepted at 7 inches though some isotopes can be as short as 4 inches. Discoverer: Eve (discovered by accident one day when she had a craving for ribs) Occurrence: Found following duel element Wo, often in high concentration near a perfect Wo specimen. Physical properties: a) Surface often covered with hair bristly in some areas, soft in others. b) Boils when inconvenienced, freezes when faced with Logic and Common Sense, melts if treated like a God. c) Obnoxious when mixed with C*H*-OH (any alcohol). d) Can cause headaches and severe body aches; handle with extreme caution. e) Tends to fall into very low energy state directly after reaction with Wo (Snore... zzzzz). f) Gains considerable mass as specimen ages, loses reactive nature. g) Specimens can be found in various states ranging from deeply sensitive to extremely thick. h) Rarely found in pure form after 14th year. i) Ore damaged as a direct result of unlucky reaction with polluted form of the Wo common ore. j) When pressure is applied, becomes stiff and unyielding; yields only when subtlety, subterfuge, flattery are applied. Chemical properties: a) All forms desire reaction with Wo, even when no further reaction is possible. b) May react with several Wo isotopes in short period under extremely favorable conditions. c) Most powerful embittering and aggravating agent known to Wo. d) Usually willing to react with whatever is available. e) Reaction Rates range from aborted/non-existent to pre-interaction effects which tend to turn the specimen bright red. f) Reaction styles vary from extremely slow, calm and wet to violent/bloody. g) When saturated with alcohols, will be fairly inert and will repel most other elements. h) Is repelled by most household appliances and common household cleansers. i) Is repelled by small children clothed in diapers, particularly those of the malodorous variety. j) Is neutral to common courtesy and fairness. Storage: a) Best results apparently near 18 for high reaction rate, 25-35 for favorable reaction style. b) Heavy boxes, top shelves, long walks late at night, free dinners for Wo... c) Can be used in recreational activities. Tests: a) Pure specimen will rarely reveal purity, while reacted specimens broadcast information on many wavelengths. Caution: a) Tends to react extremely violently when other Man interferes with reaction to a particular Wo specimen. Otherwise very malleable under correct conditions.

Post edited by: siobha9, at: 2008/08/24 22:37

Hello Hrund, Welcome to the forum. First of all I would like to congratulate you for taking on an older grey. You have done a wonderful thing for him. I think you are doing really well to be able to pet his face already;) Even if it only a couple of times, for a grey who is as frightened as Nokkvi must be. Please keep reading and asking questions and there will certainly be someone who can help you along the way. Siobhan

Hi Natasha, Welcome to the forum. Best of luck in choosing your grey;) Siobhan

Yes I remember a thread a while ago where she was asked about this. I don't get it... I think it would be very educational to help us teach our birds to dance, don't you think?

Don't be worrying about driving us crazy, its better you ask if you're not sure than not ask and for something to be actually wrong;) I'd say you are in for some fun with this chap, it sounds like he is quite the character:) Siobhan

That sounds like you have made wonderful progress with him already. He is still a baby so he should learn fairly quickly. Be careful with the ear nibbling though in case he gives you a piercing you hadnt planned on

Nims is right - there shouldnt be a smell. I think a vet trip is in order. Here is a very informative (albeit very graphical:sick: ) thread about poop which is worth a read;) http://www.greyforums.net/forums/african-grey/63227-normal-bird-poop-or-not.html#80427

I think the problem here is that your grey is descended from the Romans and believes you are his servant put on this earth to feed him grapes:laugh: If he eats the foods you are offering him, ie seeds, fruits and vegetables, outside the cage, he will eat them inside it if he is hungry enough. A grey won't starve himself if foods he enjoys are readily available. But why should he bother stretching his little neck out to reach a carrot if his servant human will hand it to him;) Clever bird!

MIlks : does the DNA test show if a bird is healthy or prone to disease or is it purely to find the sex? No the DNA test only shows the sex of the bird, the Health certificate will show if it is healthy. Milks: are there many scammers/bad breeders out there that I should be worried about? Unfortunately if there is a demand for something, in todays corrupt society there will always be scammers. Rule of thumb, if they are looking for money up front, if they have an address in Cameroon, if you cannot see the baby before you buy it, stay away. There are some threads in the nursery room about socialising etc. Have a read of those and they will give you some ideas of the questions you can ask a potential breeder. di2008: is a hatch cert required by law in the uk No I don't believe it is. it definitely isnt in Ireland. It is a document used for record purposes by the breeder, and also for tax liability. But a small scale breeder, ie some one who only has 1 or 2 breeding pairs may not use them. I dont have hatch certficates for either of mine.

I can't speak for the other that have answered this thread, but there are a couple of things that concern me personally. You do not seem to appreciate the seriousness of what has happened to your baby grey or if you do, then that is not the impression you are conveying to us. You follow comments with Lol and smiley faces leading me to believe that you find it funny. I do not. The people who are advising you are not concerned about you, or the time you have available to you, or even the methods that you use to feed your grey. Our concern is only for your baby. We are a grey forum, and we love our greys, and we do tend to get very emotional at what we perceive to be negligence on the part of an owner. You say that you feed your grey without forcing or harming him. But he is only 7 weeks old and has already been to the vet having swallowed a tube. Instead of getting defensive about your methods, perhaps you should listen to some expert advice on how to prevent such accidents in the future? Siobhan

Wow she is beautiful! She is almost silver rather than grey isnt she? I just love her dark eyes

I suppose we have to let the hubbies have the little victories... makes them feel good;) . And when they are gone, we get our birds back:laugh:

I'm not in the Bristol area, but you are more than welcome to talk to your hearts content here! Many of us find that our friends are just not interested in hearing that Tigerlily swung upside down from the top of the cage this morning and discovered that she LOVES sugar snap peas:P So on this forum you can share all your little victories, and woes and we are always ready to congratulate or sympathise! No worry is too small, or triumph too tiny to share here:laugh: So start talking cos we're listening;) Siobhan

I know rain! Welcome to my world:laugh: I hope it stays off the East Coast or heads further out to sea;)

I have a caique which we got for my son. I think he is the sweetest little bird. He loves cuddles, loves to whistle tunes, and talks a lot like a budgie. His voice is not as clear as a grey, but so far he has learned Pretty Bird, Hello Beaker and Ciara (my daughters name). He also does some amazing sound effects. Here are a couple of pictures of him

That is a very clever idea. The toothbrush cover is a nice size for them to hold as well. I have to try that one out, I have a few lying around;) Karma to you:)

I have a similar situation with one of my greys. He loves my husband. He is quite well behaved for me whenever my hubby isnt around, but whenever he is Oisin turns on me. Every time hubby is home we make Oisin step from him to me and back again, so he understands that he can't stay with his daddy all the time and he can't shut me out. Given a choice of the 2 of us on each end of the sofa Oisin breaks his neck to get to his Daddy. I know cos we have tried it out

Its the 100% aloe vera juice you are looking for without the bits. I just decant it into a spray bottle and use it neat after a shower to spray their feathers. It makes them nice and soft, and helps to keep them in good condition, less itchy and less likely to pluck.
