  1. What's with this "oral stage"? It's a fact that many birds enjoy eating off a spoon. I don't believe it's because of a need other than wanting whatever it is we are eating off that spoon or fork at the time. In my lifetime,I have never heard of birds and an oral stage in the same sentence before....ya just never know I guess....
  2. I agree with the others, the chain is a bit worrisome..
  3. You are right, that is so precious, it IS their choice...beautifully stated!

    ideas...

Research and read as much as you can here.
  5. Really? Are you that petty? If you have read the thread correctly, it is a thread of honored amazons that join us in this room. It has nothing to do with WHO you are, HOW important you are, or HOW important your amazon is. It is just a random list of those amazons that join us as we find them...... MAYBE YOU DON'T REALIZE THAT OUR MODERATORS DON'T ET PAID OR COMPENSATED IN ANY WAY SHAPE OR FORM. THEY COME UP WITH THEIR OWN IDEAS FOR TOPICS, AND VOLUNTEER THEIR TIME TO HELPING KEEP THIS FORUM FUN, USEFUL AND EXCITING! I for one am very grateful for the wonderful team of mods we have here and am forever in their debt for all the work they do as mods.
  6. That was completely uncalled for and WAY out of line Nancy. Sometimes you post very nice and kind threads and other times, I have seen you post insults, put downs and harshness. What is with you? Jayd was here long before you came here, he is highly respected due to the lifetime of research he continues to do, his experience and his lifetime of rescuing, breeding and owning a variety of birds. He and Maggie have devoted their lives to rescuing birds, they live a humble life so that they can provide for their flock which is ALWAYs put before their own needs. Just because you haven't seen Jay, doesn't mean he is some newcomer here throwing his weight around. He has suffered a sudden tragic loss of his son, and Jay has been gravely ill thus his abscence for the past year. He was sadly missed, and I can speak for many here, we are so happy to have him back with our family. Dave is another member who is highly regarded with his expertise, his experience both as a breeder and and lifelong owner who only comes here to help us. I as admin feel very honored to have BOTH these members here, as well as MANY others. There are so many longtime members here that have a niche for helping us. But you haven't been here long enough or with an open mind to see that. Your loss. There will be no more insultsor degrading remarks anymore. I will be deleting them as of this day. I tell you what I tell many, if you don't like it, then go find another forum.
  7. Wow! That is wonderful. Short and sweet but the absolute truth!!!! A sticky it is!!
  8. Congrats! Can't wait to see pics!
  9. Does anyone here use a hand held steam cleaner for cleaning their bird cages? Is it messy? I hVe never used one before nd am wondering if it would be easy to use without a lot of floor cleanup after. Also do you have to take alL the toys out when you use it, and how often do you use it if you have one?
  10. Thanks, does it make a floor messy?
  11. I think it's beautiful and unique!
  12. I amdurios how a steam cleaner would ork on cages. Does it disinfect! Are they messy,do they make te floor wet! Lots of questions as having 5 cages to clean takes some time.
  13. Welcome and I am so glad you finally decided to join our family! Can't wait to hear more stories and puctures.

  15. troublemaker... I do know that there will probably be a rescued one in my future one day...I look all the time..don't know if I can handle another BIG PERSONALITY with Nilah's BIG HEAD!!
  16. You Can wrap the perches in vet wrap if they are slippery and you have your heart set on the lucite one.
  17. Love the pictures!! I have been wanting a riel, but am trying to convince myself I have enough birds for now....but this thread isn't helping!
  18. Hi Janet, you are very patient!! I have had times in the past when Nilah has tried that same routine. I have 3 things that worked for me. Lightly blowing on her face and beak makes her stop. Louie seems to stop and listen when you talk non stop like Nilah does, so I sometimes talk in a very high pitched nonstop voice saying pretty much nothing, just high pitched words and sounds. But in the worst case, I send her off flying by flicking my arm and saying no, so she knows this behavior will make me send her away. These things work for e, also, I will take her and put her in front of an open window as she loves the outside. It changes her mood and she forgets about biting me, cause as you know, an amazon wants their own way...

    Freezing nuts?

I refrigerate all my bird pellets and seed mixes. It keeps the moths away.

    Deep Fryer

UPDATE: I called the Presto customer service line. The woman I spoke with looked at the list of of parts and said Teflon was not listed as being in any part of the Fry DAddy Elite that I had purchased, but that she would research it more and call me back in a while. I explained how deadly Teflon was to my parrots and I didn't want to risk them dying because of it. She called me back and said the only coating used is on the removable pan that holds the oil. Thenpannis coated with Anodized Aluminum, and no teflon at all in the model i bought. I will now have to do a quick google research to check that product out, but so far, it sounds ok. If anyone knows, I'd love to hear!
  22. Oh wow! This is cool! 7 minutes.... Hard to do. I think I would explain the lifelong commitment, the emotional needs, the importance of being an accepted family member, their diet. Just some thoughts off the top of my head.

    Deep Fryer

This is the first one I have had in 30 years, using Canola or peanut oil mostly. NEVER visit KFC, sorry Dave, too unhealthy for my taste...... Still hoping I can find out its not Teflon, it doesn't look like it, but I will be calling them later and seeing what they will tell me. My kids are concerned about the smell of the oil permeating the house....harmful? ANYONE????? .
  24. Cute cute pictures! Talon has a sleep hut and has used it for the past 7 years, I do check it regularly. Now that she's a grown up in her mind, she prefers to sleep perched on the roof of it!
