  1. I feel the need to bump this before I go off on a rampage.... sorry all........
  2. How adorable! Can't wait to hear and follow this adventure.
  3. I can't seem to find the correct thread, but somewhere i think, Ray or Jay you posted a picture of your corner bathing dish. I was wondering if it was a ferret one or a rabbit one. Was it a litter pan or water dish? I want to order one for each of my greys but want to find the same type that some of you use. Some recommendations please? Thank you!!
  4. I'm thinking roots like roots from a small tree or plant, I guess you are thinking differently...
  5. Well, if anyone can make it work, it will be you! I'm not that clever or creative. I bought my big mazanta tree from the Bird of Paradise store in NJ. It was used by them, and I got it for an incredibly cheap price compared to the new ones they had on display. it didnt look used to me.. But I cant wait to see what you come up with...")
  6. What do you mean by roots? Aren't roots unstable?
  7. I believe it is a mazanta tree stand. I have one, and they are beautiful, easy to clean and no problems with aspergillus.
  8. I have an iPad that I use all the time as you can tell by the stupid auto-text in my posts at ties.... other than them watching bird videos, they show no interest in it unless they are chewing the corners when they think I'm not noticing duh! My cat goes nuts when I play the meow piraña app, you should try it! It's hilarious to watch.
  9. Doug is right, different scales will be different weights. That is too big of a drop in such a small amount of time! Not really possible. You will see a difference in their weight before and after their morning bomb tho. ; Doug, your wife must love having you tinker with everything in the house for entertainment!!! That made me crack up! Lol
  10. No truer words were ever spoken. Amazons have an over abundance of love to give you. I do know that a grey owner would think they have it all with their precious grey, I thought the same with my 2. But I could never imagine the love and joy and happiness that Nilah brings to me. I love the balance between the amazon and the grey. Unless you've been lucky enough to experience it, there are no words to explain it, but I must say, You came the closest! Thank you!
  11. Yes, my advice is to say away from acidic foods and drinks. Drink lots of alkaline water. Kidney stones happen from lack of water and acidic foods and drinks.
  12. Talon and Rikki will be 7 years old this year. Nilah will be 3 years next week.
  13. Oh my! Thats terrible. My birds have potty baskets, they usually go in them, or else I keep an eye on their body language, that lets me know, when they are going to go.
  14. Many greys just don't like to be touched, cuddles or scratched. I have 3 parrots, one that I have had since 8 weeks, she never likes to cuddle or be touched. The other 2 love it. So you never know...they all have different personalities, likes and dislikes.
  15. You are lucky, cause Talon has been in the shower with me for the past 7 years almost daily, she will perch on the shower rod, or mostly on top of the shower head which does have a hose like the one you showed us, and she will stick her head under just enough to drink the water that comes out over and over again, but OMG! DON'T GET HER WET!!!! I've spent 7 years trying all kinds of different and gentle ways, no way will she let her precious feathers get wet by anyone other than her!
  16. Yea Judy, we HAVE to go to Bird Paradise together!!!! What a blast we would have and we can spend oodles of money we don't have!!!!! Thats what they make plastic cards for.. Lol
  17. I always enjoy listening to Dayo, he sounds just like you Dan, such a deep voice! Especially when all us gals here have greys that speak in female voices!

    Stolen

Scumbags! How infuriating!!! I must say I am suprised a pet store would not have security cameras in place. Many owners of parrots I know, myself included, have security alarms on doors and windows of their homes as people have been known to break into houses where they hear parrots and steal them...
  19. I would like to let everyone know that in this room, we have many stickies about understand body language, biting issues, and general handling of your birds. It's always good no matter how many years you've had your parrots, no matter how much trust you have between the two of you, no matter how bonded you are to your parrot to RE-READ them every once in a while as reminders..... I have seen many posts here in the last few months by some members about FORCING yourself on your bird, NEVER appropriate! Or acting as a PARENT with expectations of them behaving like a child, NEVER a good thing for your birds mentality, it will have an effect over time, and just insisting they behave in the way YOU feel they should, WRONG! These are wild creatures, they will never be domesticated, and expecting them to become our "pets" does nothing but put stress on them that WILL effect their health and mental state as they age. It is up to US their care givers to do everything we can to understand their behavior, accept it, and LOVE them unconditionally. Understand there will be days where they mis behave, just like children, days where they are into everything and driving you bonkers, days when you feel like all you do is follow them around cleaning up after them, days when you are exhausted from work, your kids, life's stresses and just don't have the patience for them, but understand, although they cant possibly know what stresses you have in your life, they CAN feel it, they WILL know when your sad, mad, they WILL feel when things arent right with you and they WILL love you unconditionally. But ONLY if you allow them to be the wild creatures that God intended, not children that must behave according to OUR rules. And in return for that small gift you give them, you will have the most beautiful relationship with a wild bird that you could ever imagine! They will love you, tease you, go to any extreme to get your attention, some days they just want to be with you, you don't need to talk to them, touch them, or feed them, they are just happy to be WITH you. They will call for you, get excited to see you, and forgive you if you RESPECT who they are, if you don't respect them, then you WILL be raising a very troubled parrot. Remember, they DIDN'T ask to be brought into our homes, they have no say over their living conditions, they can't tell you what they do or don't like, we have to figure things out for ourselves by allowing them THEIR rights and understanding them. Food for thought......
  20. Ray that's hysterical!! How original. Beautiful grey you have there ! Thanks for the pics, he looks very content in life.
  21. Hey Doug, after our Easter festivities settle down, I will start a new thread about this. I will post pictures of how I handle Talons morning bomb that she holds in all night. I think you might lime it, or at least your wife will. My other birds think nothing of pooping whenever they want in their cages, but Talon being the prissy little neat and tidy girl she is will hold it all day or night if she has to so not to poop in her cages.
  22. My greys act like they are being murdered when I try and give them a shower. Rikki almost pops the blood vessels around her eyes, so I gave up on that idea. I do spritz them with a spray bottle when they are not looking, but mostly they prefer to do their own baths in water bowls.
  23. Thanks Jay, now I can't get your words out of my brain every time I look at Nilah......she only cares about Nilah! I was eating pizza tonight, and she had to perch as she always does on the hand that was holding the pizza and moving it up to my mouth so I could get a bite, she rides it up and down as she nibbles at it. Always on the hand that is holding the utensil also......you should try eating oatmeal in the mornings with an amazon riding your utensil hand!! Ugh!!! And here I thought she wanted to share, she's only making sure she gets it all!!!! I never realized how much those words are true, even when sheis doing something she shouldn't be doing, over and over, I thought she was testing me like my greys, but now I know it's all about HER!!!
  24. Cant seem to vote more than once, but I have 2 rights and one left.
