I LOve this thread. Thank you luparrots for starting it. Gosh knows we needed some upbeat threads around here.....let's keep the momentum going.
I am still recuperating from my dance recital, nothing too exciting here......except my daughter finally decided to go shooting with us last night. She shot a Ruger Redhawk Talon 22cal and a Glock 26 9 mm. Boy was she accurate! I'm quite proud of her, as my children were brought up to be fearful of guns and even water pistols...
Talon is a timneh. I'm ashamed to say I haven't weighed her in a while, (but will when she gets up this am) At last weigh-in, she was 316 grams. She will be 5 years old in a few months:)
OMG!!! You described NILAH to a tee!!! She is always content to play on her own, sings, never yells! But boy, let me tell you, she can run faster than anything, It's a riot to see her take off across the living room floor looking for me. She'll chase after me into the kitchen soooo fast!!
I always leave my birds cage doors open. In 5 years, I can count the number of times on one hand any of the 3 have gone back into their cage on their own. I only put them in their cages with a noodle treat when I am leaving or having company. When I return,99% of the time open their door and have them step up onto me and they all go onto their potty baskets..... The other 1% of the times, they immediately climb out of their cage and onto the top of the door waiting for me.
I am happy you no longer wing clip! That's my vote!! :)
WOW! How adorable!!!!! Welcome to our Family. I look forward to hearing more and please keep those pics coming!!
Don't let anyone here scare you off, if they shun you for having such a young baby. You sound like you have lots of experience and will be fine. It's just some of us lack the experience and prefer to wait for a weaned bird. I am happy you have joined us. I LOVE watching the babies grow!!
What wonderful pictures! He looks so happy and content, which I am sure he is. it is always best to hear the advice you get, but ALWAYS follow your instincts. And in this case, I am glad you did! I am so happy for you and wish to hear and see more! Please don't be a stranger for so long. You are a valued member of our family and we want to hear more!
Praying for Spock. Our poor baby has been thru so much. I hope this is just a fluke, perhaps he ate too much too fast. Please let us know how he is and what you find out...
Jules, it is an option for you only to log onto your Facebook. It does not give members the option to see anyone here. Just a convenience is all. . No one here can see you except your Facebook friends.
Yes, my birds will come to me in my house when I call them. I did not teach that to them, they just seem to have realized that when I call their name loudly and tell them where I am, they will fly to me and I praise them. I suppose, you could say, they are trained....
I am a strong believer in not trying to teach recall training. Why? Because it scare the bee gee bers out of me..... I couldn't bear with the thought of losing my birds, so I protect them from ANY chance I can of losing them. I have read too many stories of birds escaping or not returning and it frightens me to death. How's that for a closed mind....
Hi Mark & Welcome to our family. I am so happy you are doing so much research into your new addition. I am sure you will figure out her physical abilities as time goes on. I have an amazon that does the same with her wings when she steps up. I attribute it to her showing off for me and getting the opportunity to exercise them as she is stlll clipped when we got her. i look forward to hearing more form you. I am sure others with more experience will be here soon to help you better.
