  1. Down the line I'd think about investing in a bigger cage for him. The one you have appears to be a bit too narrow for a Grey. The more space they have, the better!
  2. Twelve weeks of age is a bit young for a Grey to be fully weaned. My Grey continued to take feedings until he was almost 18 weeks of age, even though his breeder told me he was completely weaned.
  3. I have an Ekki. He's a rehome, and has been with us for 2.5 years. He's now around 11 years old. He's very easy-going and has never bit us. He'd been clipped all his life, so he doesn't know what wings are for, even though his flights have all grown out ages ago. He doesn't really like my grey, and will take tufts of feathers out of him if Maalik ventures too close to him. What Greywings has said about their vocalizations is true. Their pronunciation of words is crystal clear!
  4. Oh dear. Just saw this. Hope you had a great hatch day, Alfie!
  5. What a great toy! Never would have thought of using a bank to help keep Maalik entertained.
  6. I especially like the picture where he's giving you that little baby birdie look. He's beautiful!
  7. Num! Num! Num! I'll take her raspberry waffles if she doesn't want them!

What a wonderful picture of you with Ivan. I'm so sorry for your loss. My heart goes out to both you and your wife..
  9. Welcome to you and Scooty!
  10. So sorry, Murfchck. Run free, sweet Daisy.
  11. So sorry that you've lost your precious Sunny, Nancy. Hugs to you.
  12. Dang! Does that looks like it hurt. I'll kiss Maalik's beak, but only if my two fingers are resting on the tip of his beak while I kiss the top portion. I'll also kiss his beak if he happens to be inside his cage and nudging his beak through its bars. What Maalik's been doing as of late is pinching the back of my neck while he makes a loud clack sound. that's when he's being a little smartie pants with me. I'll then walk over to a chair that has some blankets on it and put him onto that, saying, while doing my best stink eye possible: 'No Biting!' Usually he'll try it a few more times before he finds something else to keep himself entertained. If he continues to harass me, I'll start singing to him, which softens him back into a cute little bundle of fluffiness. These Greys...:-)
  13. Decorah just posted that the third eaglet from last year's clutch was found electrocuted. So sad and a completely preventable death. That was the second eaglet from this particular clutch which had been electrocuted after landing on an improperly housed electrical line.
  14. Two of my German Shepherds have strong prey drives as well. Over time they've acclimated themselves to their presence so that now I don't have to worry about having them in the same room while my fids are out. As a general rule, my birds are kept separate from my dogs 95% of the time. It's my insurance policy in order to maintain their safety at all times. If my dogs were to briefly enter the bird room they couldn't be bothered by their presence. I think they've grown used to them from having walked past their cages. But when they first came home, my dogs were hyper-focused on them, and they would try to nip at their clinging talons whenever possible.
  15. I have 4 German Shepherds and 9 parrots, including my Grey. For the most part I keep them separated from my birds whenever they're out of their cages. However, when they're in the same room together, my dogs pretty much ignore them. My birds are all flighted, not only for their own enjoyment but also for their own safety should a troubling situation between them and the dogs arose.
  16. I've been watching the Decorah Eagles cam as well. Last year's brood had such a sad outcome for 2 of the 3 eagles. Just goes to show you how difficult it is for these babies to reach adulthood either alive or in one piece.
  17. What did she do after you didn't react to her biting? Did she remain on your arm, or did she high tail it back onto her perch?
  18. If there's a sound you don't want them to make, they absolutely will! Murphy's law.
  19. I make birdie bread from pellet 'flour'. I pulverize their pellets in a food process and use that, along with some rice bran flour, to hold the mixture together. Like Aerial, I also hide all sorts of healthy great things inside their birdie bread. Gives me peace-of-mind, knowing that they're getting everything their little bodies need.
  20. Can you get hold of a 20 cc syringe? That's what I used to feed my CAG formula.
  21. LOVED this video! Makes me want to free flight my macaw one day.
