  1. My birds aren't clipped (all 10 of them). The ceiling fans are turned off when I take them out, and only the portable fans are on. They know what a window is through their own trial and error. All my birds have figured out their boundaries within our home. My newest baby came here clipped, but I've let her flight feathers grow out, and she has recently learned how to fly. I've hung up a curtain separating rooms so that when they're out I can pull the curtain closed to contain them. Everyone in my home knows that when the birds are out all the windows and doors must be closed as well as the curtain drawn. You will simply have to figure out what works best within your environment and to make certain that everyone in your home follows what you've put into place. In keeping birds flighted comes great responsibility. But it certainly brings them tremendous joy and delight, not to mention much needed exercise.
  2. How much living space will Phenix have with each cage? When selecting a cage, the bigger, the better. Also visualize the amount of room he'll have to roam about inside once you've hung all his toys. I also prefer flat top cages to the domed ones.
  3. If you're completely set on getting a breeder baby, I do have a great recommendation for you. He usually has clutches in the spring. He's the head bird keeper for the San Diego Zoo and breeds magpie jays, green wings and CAGs. He ships. http://www.rainforestaviaries.com/
  4. I'm so sorry. Gypsy had a wonderful life because of you. <3
  5. Such sad news. My prayers go out to his family. He will be greatly missed.
  6. Have you tried pine nuts? All 10 of my fids like that one the best.
  7. What a great opportunity for your birds! The all looked so happy!! I've always fantasized about letting my fids fly inside a gymnasium. Wish I could make that happen.
  8. Just saw on FB that someone lost 3 of her 4 birds from Teflon toxicity one hour after using her new air fryer. If anyone her has one of these appliances, PLEASE don't use it anywhere near your birds. Better yet, get rid of it!
  9. Make sure you don't fart of burp near her, either!
  10. I was disheartened to see that there were people trying to poke holes into his beautiful story. Made me feel sick to my stomach.
  11. Happy hatch day, Dorian! May there be many more hatch days to come!
  12. We'd love to come see him again! It would probably be a great idea to have us over a few times before you actually take your trip. No, there weren't any pics taken, but the meet and greet actually did take place. Promise!
  13. What a pleasure to have had the opportunity to meet one of our Grey Forum family members last night! Isaac is such a little sweetheart and his doting Parront thoroughly spoils him in the best way possible! :-) Isaac loves to imitate the smoke detector and microwave sounds. Such a little cutie!
  14. So very sorry, Murfchck. Fly with the angels, sweet baby boy.
  15. I'm in Escondido near Lake Hodges. You're maybe 8 minutes from my place. :-) Let's chat whenever you're thinking of going away. I do work 12 hour days every weekend, but on weekdays I'm off. Have a vet assist lead as well who also does pet sitting. She used to work for our avian vet at Acacia VHA.
  16. Just think of the Harrison's as the flour to make the bread. Grind it finely in a food processor and use it as the base. Then add whatever you'd like into that base. The sky is the limit. If it's crumbly, then add water until it holds together, or any other liquid for that matter. Be creative! I've used green naked juice blends as the liquid in lieu of the water. I dump all kinds of things into my bread: unsweetened coconut flakes, almond meal, flax meal, red palm oil, chia seeds, hemp seeds, broccoli, sweet potato, carrots, bell peppers, banana, zucchini...whatever you'd like to disguise and get into your birdie's bellies.
  17. Absolutely! Just double checking that you live in San Diego, correct? Rancho Bernardo area?
  18. You live 10 minutes from my home. I'd be happy to help you out! Just let me know. :-)
  19. It is natural. Makes her look even more special than she already is!
