Marco gets really fascinated with hearing videos of her or other birds I play online. I dont see that she watches it as much as she listens closely to it but I also dont see that she has picked anything up from it. I dont leave it on for her while Im gone tho so maybe she doesnt get enough exposure to it ... IDK

Marco does the same thing feasts on it but eats none :rolleyes: but LOVES to destroy it!

I often wondered that too, if I ruffle a bag of chips, Marco comes running but I think she knows the sound more then the "smell" however I watch her when I feed her dinner and she goes for her favorite things first like blueberries or chicken over the snap peas or carrots ... so its either smell or sight that tells her those things are in there.

Marco was sposed to be a BOY and I liked the name cuz I wanted to echo her with POLO .... well turned out shes a GIRL not a boy (which is fine) but Marco just stuck and we liked it and it didnt matter after that

Marco is going on 2 she waits for me to bring her out of her cage usually (that might be the exception) she is "toy aggressive" meaning if shes on her toybox DO NOT TOUCH them .. but her cage shes totally fine with. That being said ... wait and watch the body language. I dont like the word PET persay .. I pet my dog, but I dont PET Marco I give her lil scratches on her neck and a beak rub you'll know when they want it hang in there!

Marco definately has body language the squat and the wiggle wiggle of the red tail is a definate sign "its coming" so get them to the proper spot for them to do their business. Marco definately hits it first thing in the morning.

HOLY GEEZE ... Wayne that is a horrible horrible story and if someone would of done that to my bird they would be paying for it period more then just sending me the remains of my bird and an apology. I would check with a lawyer, this company should have some sorta of insurance or something that might cover if something happens to someones pet while in their establishment ... Id be hot! I am so sorry for your loss Tho, reading that is was a "rescue" ... makes me wonder

I have to totally agree the name is awesome! I drew such blanks when trying to name Marco but when I hear her say something like What you doing Marco ... its all good LOL welcome to the boards and welcome home zazu Definately tell us a lil more bout you and your new baby. Where ya from, were you able to make any bonding with zazu before bringing him home etc. We love pictures as well. Cant wait to hear all about it !

OOOOOhhhh you have to give it time! Routine, consistancy definately. Soft reassuring voice, talking to them. Singing to them, reading to them, including them. I find that with Marco that I have to ASK her to step up otherwise she'll lower her head as well and isnt sure what I am wanting of her. It might take months, dont give up As far as discipline, there is a thread dedicated to that. I hate to hear that word since they are such fragile creatures. A definate stern NO, putting them back in their cage for a "time out" or turning your back and ignoring is what we do as well. I guess Im lucky because Im able to put my hand in Marco's cage just fine (for now) and get her in and out but if Peter is nippy then definately let him come out on his own. Body language and eyes pinning is definately something to be very aware of ... there is a thread dedicated to that as well. And sometimes when you think they are wanting head scratches by their body language lol its just a lure for you to reach out so they can nip ya. Take it slow you'll watch your relationship with him grow!

lol only once has marco came and stolen off my plate she normally gets her bowl ontop of her cage and is happy about that, but I kinda like the idea of giving her her own little plate at the table

Yes I agree and I think that my screaming freaked them both out more then what she was probably headed into the living room for. Its amazing tho, as that adreneline was coursing thru my body I didnt feel a ounce of pain in my knee until it was over with and I had time to "think". Tell ya what tho, ID DO IT AGAIN !!!!!! in a heartbeat! Im amazed that a hawk would come that close into someones yard, I mean we have hawks n stuff out here living in the country but Ive never seen one THAT close to anything round my house. Its like that same instinctual reflex that you have when you slam on the breaks to put your arm up over the person in the front seat, thats how I was about the cat in the house headed towards the bird. Instinct you just react!

aww marco hasnt tucked her head thru her legs like that YET ... but dear god she hangs by what looks like 1 talon upside down and scares me to death that she is going to fall flat on her face but never does! marco did the lowered wings and the actions of a regurg once but hasnt since. she will be 2 in dec.

Wow I would have been screaming at the top of my lungs to shoo that thing off my babys cage ... but hey *shrugs* thats just me ... should of seen me when the cat got in the house OMG did I tell ya'll this story? I had knee surgery done Sept 21. My 2 cats are 100% outdoor cats, big mousers and skilled hunters! About the 2nd day home? Maybe the 3rd from the surgery. Im on the couch typing on the computer and marcos out on her tree stand things were going good healing well and ... out of the corner of my eye the cat comes strutting thru the living room right towards the bird. I didnt know if she SAW the bird or was just headed that direction ... I wasnt taking any chances I yell CATTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT .... and when I did Marco must of seen her and took off flying towards the kitchen ... my screaming made the cat turn around and run towards the kitchen where marco had flown and I hop up and RUN with my leg fully bandaged from my thigh to my ankle screaming like a MAD WOMAN mad i say!!!!!!!! I get to the edge of the washer and my friend who was there helping me runs up behind me and gets marco off the floor takes her back to the cage and finds the cat and sends her outside. I am holding onto the edge of the washer as the realization hits me that I just RAN and the pain sets into my knee. needless to say they got me the crutches I hobbled back to the couch took some pain meds and iced my knee down again praying I didnt rip ANY of the stitches. It was sheer instinct for me to react regardless not to think lets get the cam to take some pics/vids first while my bird is in danger. SMH

Marco lovesssss it outside dont give up keep trying! She fights a wee bit still to this day but well worth it to get her the fresh air n sunshine!

great vid how fun marco hasnt tried the steps ... thats ok I dont think she really knows about the "upstairs" ... ive only ever taken her up there like twice ever.

I dont have any little ones left in my house but yeah Im sure poor baby wants to touch the birdie Im sure I will go thru that with grandkids (some day) so I will be able to relate ... but she is precious

I know those little "c" links you displayed I had bought a bunch for marco and at first it was great .. she used them just as toys until she got her beak stuck in one so I stopped letting her use them like that I spose as a hanger of a toy or something perhaps it would be ok but id still be careful

I think it would be great to try and record Marco as one of my ringtones like when shes screaming my sons name ANDREWWWWWWWWW ANDREWWWWWWWWWWWW ANDREWWWWWWWWW she always repeats it 3times ... then I usually say Andrew's not here ... would be hysterical to get all that recorded for when he calls me hahahahahah

how old is Dayo again? I cant wait until Marco starts to really talk up a storm like that to Me course I better figure out what she is "calling me" when she does ... I always tell Marco what Im doing too but shes not started to repeat any of that "yet"
