My African Grey adventure begins...
aerial.2000 replied to Keri's topic in Welcome & Introduction Room
well Im not parrot lady however I believe I was told never to put the water over their face directly I only lightly mist marco's face. each parrot is different when it comes to baths I hear MANY dont like it at all. marco on the other hand, I bring her in the shower with me and let her sit on the top rod while I shower and I usually talk to her then when Im all done I bring her in the shower and hold the shower head turn it on low and soak her down. Im lucky shes one of the birds that like the water. I have also recently caught her bathing in her water bowl late at nite!!!!!! she gets that water ALLLLL over when she does  Infact I think she just likes to flop it out of her bowl all over my floor cuz she cant fit in the dang thing . I would start out with a squirt bottle, thats how I did with Marco and mist mist mist and do lotta talking to them cuz I think it scares them a lil bit. Marco learned "take a shower" cuz I always tell her that when we go into the bathroom. lots of bonding you can do there too! -

well you are more then welcome thats what we are here for. Kinda funny to be considered an "experienced" grey owner now. It wasnt so long ago I was new here with a brand new baby bird doing the exact same thing you are. The peeps here were amazing to me and have always helped with all my questions even the silly ones Remember too, every Grey is different, what works for one might not work for another. What one likes the others might not. Its trial and error. Today she likes beans tomorrow I cant get her to touch them <shrugs> I like the idea of you singing/dancing with your daughter for your baby. I do that ALL the time with Marco even seems half the time I lull her to sleep with it. I have since day one sang to her simply because I cant live w/out music in my life. Im waiting for her to bust out with some lady gaga or something soon lol Im ok with it <snickers> -

Thanks for rehoming a bird in need. I think people who do that are amazing! Time, patience and acceptance of what your GREY will allow or want is the best thing to do. Lotta great suggestions. It took my roomie 2 months of round the clock "talking" and feeding her dinners and things to get Marco to accept him, he had to use an extra perch to get her to step up she wouldnt go to him and she'd bite but he kept at it every day every day working with her talking to her and before we knew it ... shes totally smitten with him stepping up and scratches and even talks like him now in his voice lol so just sit back and wait for it it'll happen! -
welcome welcome pretty pics!

I was assured too by the petstore that Marco was a "male" well 85% sure is what they said famous last words "Im almost never wrong" is what the kid said lol ..."hes got a flat head must be a boy" Anyways we did the same thing and started calling her Miss Marco and Im totally ok with it. Boy name or not, she knows it and we've called her that since day one so Marco it is, heck we even got her saying POLO !!!!!!!! so I cant hardly change it now lololol Thank you and good luck with your name change.

I have the playtop gym also but not as the side but across the top of marco's cage and shes always hanging out on it so Id go for the 2nd one
-
lol thats how I felt when I named Marco as a baby and then found out HE was a SHE ... but I dont think SHE minds much ... and she, I believe associates the word as her name. She adds it to the end of each little thing she says, are you hungry marco? whatcha doing marco? wanna eat marco? its kinna cute
-
marco was the same way ... totally smitten with me but hubby was determined and now she definately accepts him so theres hope for your hubby should he want a relationship with your baby too
-
Marco loves the camera ... I sure hope you get them caught singing would love to see it
-
meeting her might be good, however, you should take your time once you do get your bird and be easy on them so they can accept the new surroundings and changes that are going to be thrust upon them. Will take your bird more then 1 day to love you but should only take you a few minutes *winks* good luck to you and ty for taking in and rehoming a bird
-
very cool I love that kinna stuff how unexpected and it makes everyone smile

Who has young children at home with your birds?
aerial.2000 replied to KatieG17's topic in The GREY Lounge
I dont have young children either and no grandkids *yet* but I also worry about this. My stragedy was going to be exactly that ... WATCH, teach and hope when they are old enough Marco accepts and loves them. I tend to notice if there are kids running round like when I took her into the parrot store the last time the owners grandkids were there just bouncing off the walls it made Marco VERY nervous !!!!!!! I know when I was babysitting my son's friends baby, when that baby cried (it was an infant) Marcos eyes got huge and her head would cock to the side like  WTF is that noise? lol So I will be nervous and watching closely once I have youngsters in my home .. heck I do that when adults want to go over and "touch" her cuz I dont want anyone being bit!!! I loved the gate idea!!!! -

Hello, we're Bill & Bailey
aerial.2000 replied to BaileysPapa's topic in Welcome & Introduction Room
welcome bill and bailey I almost named my first child bailey however it was a boy LOL ... I dont think he would of appreciated that  -
WOW WOW the advice and caring that has poured forth in this thread has seriously touched Me. I dont have any advice on divorice, but I know that when Ive been crying in the past Marco has totally tuned into my mood. I can see her watching me if Im upset. She will either come closer to me and just sit with me or say something to make me smile and make it "all better". So let your birds and pets, and friends help you thru this you got some great support HERE as well! Plus it will keep you busy and that in turn takes your mind off things. Hang in there .. happier days are coming for you.
