  1. omg that is hystericallll!!!!!! the only time marco flies like that when a stranger is in the house is if they are carrying osmething big like the sears guy freaked her out when he carried in a huge brown box otherwise she just hangs out chillen no matter whos in the house ... my mom when she visited would have died also had marco flown anywhere near her
  2. welcome welcome to you and your flock
  3. well welcome to the both of you what fun pics! I cant keep Marco that close to my remotes LOL she likes to eat them!!!! pretty boy!
  4. you should get a list of all the acceptable fruit and veges for your baby to eat I thought I was told not to many tomatos but I could be wrong. I know tho, lot of the green veges and not so much on the fruit! and definately offer them fresh every day!!! Marco gets fresh morning and night, and shes SUPER vocal in the am, when I get home from work and right before bed rest time shes snoozing on her perch!
  5. so far marco has not flew that high either HOWEVER she is out of the cage ALOT and I choose to keep mine OFF! she gets spooked pretty easily ... if shes on her cage chillen and we walk in with something large like a BOX or something new it will spook her FAST and then shes in a panic flight ... it is not worth the risk i switched all our fans and keep the ceiling one OFF!
  6. I am just sitting in shock and I pray for you and your baby. I think everyone here is tryin to help you the best they can but no one here is a avian vet. I hope your baby is doing better ... I would be beside myself to have wounds like that on my grey!
  7. I also have to agree with the video being boardline disturbing ... even tho, you are meaning to play I think something coming over your babies head def looks like its freightning him. not to mention the bottle is huge like a 2liter. try and watch your birds reactions and read the signs they are giving you ... this will take time but I wouldnt suggest you continue play in that manner ... just my opinion enjoy your babybird just try not to break a bond/trust issue they are attempting to gain with you.
  8. I totally dont know the correct answer for you ... and I know it sounds like you are pretty frustrated but ... dont give up. Marco isnt always thrilled when I put her harness on BUT she knows that it'll get her outside and she likes that. And yes all the noises do spook them easily outside the leg tether to me sounds WAY to scarey to hurt them or their leg ... so Im sure someone with lots more experience will come along w/more advice. maybe try to make a game out of the harness so that Storm sees you playing with it and he then might get more inquisitive about it? gosh I dont know .. good luck!
  9. marco loves her boing and i do need to trim the tips she has gotten her lil foot caught in it before
  10. hey welcome to the thread what a beautiful baby you got there. love the tree stand
  11. Best thing to do is your research indeed. Keeping them in a backroom? Does that mean like just for sleeping and stuff? I keep Marco out in my living room. She has even started to bark like the dogs when people come and go from the house lol. You definately want a place for your bird in the same room you are in!! They are alot of work but Im sure you know that with your other flock. Marco isnt allowed to "chew" on anything but her stuff including toys and foods etc. And it doesnt take them long at all to destroy anything lol. I have a variety of toys that I have made to ones I have bought. Reading thru these threads and forums is an excellent way to start. There is a thread on cages I believe too!
  12. omg I want one!!!!!! like bad lol ... how TOTALLY sweet is that?!?! wow
  13. wow that last pic is SUPER cool!!! thanks!!
  14. shoot!! we got like over 3 foot last week wish I would of thought of bringing snow inside!!! most marco did was sit on the perch at the window watching it come down lol ... FUN vid
  15. love the pics welcome to the forum ... super advice given ^^^^ good luck and let us know about your progress
  16. When I think about it, I find it totally amazing that Marco is beginning to communicate with appropriate things....at the right time. If that makes sense? Example, I take her in the kitchen to her swing where she usually sits while Im doing dishes or anything in the kitchen, and I was making her dinner, and she just out of the blue clear as a bell said ... "What you doing?" and astonished I looked at her and was like ... Im making you dinner. She didnt say it again but it was just like an appropriate thing to say at that time. The other morning, I had just put her back in her cage and was headed towards the door and she said "Going to work?" and I said OMG DID YOU HEAR THAT!!!!!!!! and hubby was like yea I did .. So we explained yes Marco we are going to work be home later. She totally KNEW ... amazing. I cant wait ... watching her vocabulary grow is just really becoming fascinating!
  17. Ive never had problems what Marco ingesting anything shes torn up. Another huge favorite toy and super cheap like straws are those chinese finger torture things I pick them up at a party supply store but in a pinch you can pick them up at a Dollar General.. and you can make toys with them as well. One of the first toys I made for Marco when bringing her home was made from straw and a plastic hanging chain link thing and she loves it!
  18. thanks for that info jay ... i was leaning toward repowder coating it, and they quoted me about 150 bucks but i will ask about the zinc etc.... thanks
  19. Anyone have an info on safe paint to use to re-finish a cage and where to find it? I just bought a HUGE cage for Marco that will be her outdoor cage when we are outside with her ofcourse!! Its actually bigger then her inside one. (had to of been one heck of a big bird in this cage) anyways ... it has a few issues that I need to address like a new lock on the door but I was considering possibly refinishing it either paint or taking it to have it re-powdercoated. Any thoughts?
  20. I totally gotta get me one of those I have found cleaning the cage in the winter time has sucked more then I thought it would!!!!! cant wait for spring and to be able to take it outside again!!! I also use vinegar/water to clean her cage as well!
  21. wow totally greattttt info given here for you i LOVE your picture you posted birdhouse what a lovely baby and I love the strawburst! Marco also loves straws and popsicle sticks. I have toyboxes full of lids and spools and things like that foer Marco's foot pleasure. Maybe breeder birds dont have the luxury or knowledge of toys n stuff? It could be all new to your baby, but hopefully now for you it will help in socializing him with you. Glad you are progressing!
  22. agreed Ray.. I think thats why Marco even started the barking at all .. having yippie dogs like I do ... I think she sees they get ALOT of attention when they bark and she always knows once they start barking somethings about to happen so she gets all excited too ... course the attention the dogs get is me screaming at them to hush it and course once they simmer down so does she! Course Id rather she just tell them to hush it versus joining them LOL
  23. Gosh maybe I gotz a lazy bird, Marco dont like to move until we are either up or the sun is up at the very least. Shes a good sleeper! But she also does bark like the dogs as well. I think Marco does it cuz shes feeling left out while the other dogs bark but she hasnt really gone out of control with it and we do mostly ignore it ... I hope it gets better for yoU!
