  1. it takes a long time. You just brought your baby home, give it time. you also need to maybe be ready to not be the "chosen" one for your new addition. it'll be ok there is still lots you can do and you might even be able to atleast change some of that. I am the chosen one for my baby however my hubby was dead set on not having an animal he was not able to hold or work with so, he endured the puffing up and the nips and bites and worked with Marco and didnt give up now marco responds really well to him but Im still her chosen Ive had marco for a year so .... it takes time, talk with your new baby, establish small steps and work on gaining trust.
  2. i dont think for one minute getting the 2nd one is going to be ANY kind of let down whatsoever for you
  3. I find Marco the mosttttttt loving when its dark out lol either late at nite or early morning ...
  4. I can tell you on a positive note, I bought my baby at 3weeks of age from a great little mom & pop pet shop that specializes in only parrots. They cared sooo well for Marco, and I went on Sat/Sun to visit her for 4 months I didnt miss a chance to visit. They weened her and socialized her the best they could. They all loved her there. The transition from there to the house was easy peezy. (I was lucky) However I will say this much on your young children, Marco was not cool at all with the children that would come into the pet shop. They liked to run and yell and she got very fearful. Also, Marco has completely bonded with me and will not allow my kids (much older) to hold her at all w/out biting them severly. Marco is a TON of fun, but a ton of work as well. Read up on all the things offered here for sure before making your final decision. Greys are awesome and just like people everyone is different! I can only tell you the experiences I have had with my own baby! Good luck to you!
  5. i have a great great scale with a perch on it .... check out amazon
  6. did you tell us the name of your baby or did I miss it?
  7. holy cow !!!!!!!! that would indeed be terribly scarey!!!!! Altho, I think its great that your neighbors KNEW you had a grey bird and called you right away. I think that is a great idea to let my neighbors know for just such emergencies glad things were ok for you Ray! nothing like getting your ticker going huh?
  8. well i know it doesnt take but a second for marco to snap the cord to my headphones with ONE snap of her beak, Im sure a cord would take a few snaps but ... the end result could be devastating ... so yeah just something to think about marco knows everything on her cage and has nibbled on ALL of it! I keep it nice n warm in the house specifically for her
  9. my fear is that marco chews on everything inside and outside her cage if its left on and she chewed the cord? I would be sooooo upset thats what keeps me from doing it ...
  10. nice going progress is worth the wait huh?
  11. thats a great idea for parrots who dont like the water !!! Im glad marco is totally cool with showers she takes them with me ... course the whole family thinks im crazy when they hear me in there talking to her
  12. awww Im so so sorry to hear this Marco did the same thing cept it wasnt a window she was way cross the room on her boing and hubby was coming in the front door but he had something large in his hand ... scared her ... she took off ... wizzed right by me I tried to grab her clipped her wing on my hand and she flew passed the yard over the street into the grass on the other side before she glided down...... it was just that fast and I would of never thought just him carrying something large inside would of had that sort of reaction. Im just so sorry you werent able to find your sweet Echo before it was too late. <<hugs>>
  13. omg I giggled so hard at poultry!!!!!!!!!!!
  14. awww looks great !!!!!! have fun with your new baby
  15. marco loves hair, tween playing with it and maybe preening ME ... she does it ALL the time.
  16. I definately agree even tho Im no expert to put your new baby where you can see and they can see. It might help some of the transition to your home and definately take your time, let your new friend lead the way when they feel comfortable.

  20. i try to hide some pellets in the birdie bread I make marco weekly. she has almost completely stopped eating them from a dish but she totally loves mommys cooking so thats where I get her pellets in her! the rest of the time is lotttts of good veges, beans, some fruit and a great seed mix. Dont think she dont waste alot of that too LOL. Shes getting way better with her distance she can throw it as well
