  1. marcos gonna be 1 on sunday and makes all sorta sounds, mumbles or chatters a bit and says peekaboo but thats it and really if thats all that ever happens that'll be just fine with me cuz like Dave has said, you will totally learn how to communicate with her and what she is saying to you in her OWN way :D
  2. heya and welcome cant wait to hear all about maggie post pics ... tells us all about her!
  3. we are definately glad to have you as part of our forum and doing your homework and planning before entering into this commitment is always a great idea. i also did my searching online and got very freaked out by the responses i got from people and how quickly they wanted my money etc etc and I didnt feel easy at all without being able to go "see" the bird myself so i opted to find a breeder and get marco when she was just a tiny egg lol ... but good luck and be careful of your internet search
  4. can you put in a tiny screw or something? i guess im not understanding fully but "holes" and cage ... I hope you get your problem solved since I would hate to see your baby get hurt !!!
  5. marco was more upset when we brought the box down from the attic then she is at the tree being put up. we also have it near her cage not close enough she can touch it tho we didnt set up the back side of the tree so it fit more into the corner and she hasnt touched it at all I too was worried since my ornaments are mainly glass, all sedimental to me and some are even my parents so they are 50 years old. shes been a good girl
  6. I find that marco will only eat her fresh meals (breakfast/dinner) when im in the room with her otherwise she like waits till I come back in and sit down to eat ...
  7. love hearing them talk !!! ty for sharing
  8. wow poor baby .. im glad she is doing ok ... i hope its a speedy recovery~! Marco was never banded either.
  9. Marco's 1st ornament!!!! ENTRY #12:
  10. marco likes to snatch any type of hair clip i have in my hair if shes on the back of the couch walking by ... it amazes me it catches her attention ... however i do quickly stop her and move her elsewhere

  12. welcome to you and jesse have fun with your new baby
  13. welcome rosie its great to read of all your excitement ... enjoy your new baby
  14. Heyyyy and welcome to mr. wally you will just love having him. Uhm... if your dogs are lil yippers ... guess what wally's gonna pick up? I have a min-pin and a teacup yorkie (both big yippers) and yup Marco now barks like them  they do love to clean up ALLLLLLLL the food she flings tho but .. I dont see any type of friendship at all. Marco likes to fly to my BIG dogs cage (hes a full grown retriever) and sit on his door and hes scared to come out if shes there LOL  she has definately leaned down to take a nip out of him .... hasnt yet but I try to be VERY careful for both of their safety. you will do great
  15. I try to let Marco out for a morning stretch from about 6-7am (round about an hour) while we are drinking coffee, watching the news and getting ready for work. Home between 4-5pm and she is out of the cage from then until bedtime 9-930pm. Weekends (while Im home) shes out from morning (whenever I get up) til naptime for bout n hour and then out again until bedtime ...
  16. Heres my thoughts ... if she is willing and ready and doing the homework then I say YES. I think its great to teach our children the responsibilites and the caring for animals!!! However, my neice got a sunconure just had to have it ... she was 15, in highschool. Had the cage in her room the works. For the first few months she gave that baby lots of attention maybe it was summer time and she was home more. But then she turned 16 ... school started again, she got a job, found a boyfriend, etc etc .... her time with the baby got less and less. The bird was locked in her room all day long, out of the cage, unsupervised. He ended up bored and plucked ALL his feathers out. Her mother fearing for the birds well being, took the bird from her room, started feeding it fresh food (veges), put the cage up close to the window for sunshine, got the baby a friend, she is monitoring the humidy in the room now and bringing the cage out into the family room during the day so the bird has something to do and talk to cuz mom is home all day long and this bird has totally turned round. She taught it how to chew "other things" then his feathers, bought him new toys .. the works. The neice is going off to college in less then a year so my GF is already resigned to the fact that the bird is going to be basically hers and not her daughters as it was originally intended. So with that story told....... I said sure your daughter can do it but you need to definately be there for "back up" purposes as your daughter grows and things in her life change for her.
  17. welcome to the family I hope you and charlie have lots more experiences like this ... post some pics when you can
  18. aww that was a great story nice progress you are making
  19. welcome to you and good luck in your search happy holidays
  20. well welcome to the thread sounds like you are on the right track already with your newest addition! good luck to you .... LOTS to read and learn round here
  21. ENTRY #6: Merryyy Christmas Miss Marco .... her first tree~!
  22. i dont let marco on the shoulder either only becuz I dont trust her shes still a baby and still "learning" growing and changing. not only that I cant see her like that and I just dont like the feeling of not knowing what might set her off from one moment to another! I like my ears/nose/cheeks and eyes lol. just gotta be careful and follow the signs of what your bird is doing!
  23. i do find what they might eat/like today they might not tomorrow and so I never ever rule anything out with Marco and what I find she just refuses to eat I can always hide it in some birdie bread
