yes I do worry that marco will have colorful language as to I have 2 teenaged boys 19 and 18 so ... I do try to control them so she doesnt pick up on it!

oooh I didnt know that ... thats a good idea cuz when I thought I heard "What you doing" ... I jus said ... "Oh nothing" but I did say "What you doing" back to her .. but I will try to remember to talk in the longer sentences now to her ... omg its like christmas and my birthday all rolled into one LOL Im so excited

thanks Dave ... guess we're in trouble soon LOL cuz she'll go on a rant of that mumbling stuff for 10-15 minutes and I'll listen and watch and think "Did she just say ...... ?" :eek: I always try to answer her regardless to what I think shes saying. It was really like over night she started it. My kids keep telling me no thats not her talking but I truly disagree. I thought this might be how it starts. Well Im totally excited! Course her first words are probably going to be Marco's no chicken hahahaha which we say ALOT!!!!!!!!!

This morning I got up at 5 and opened Marco's cage. I turned on my son's bedroom light and woke him up and he left before 6. I laid back down on the couch just to close my eyes for a few more minutes even tho, I knew I had to be up. Marco in stealth mode, decided to crawl over to the couch lean down while my eyes were closed and preen my hair but she let like strand by strand drop on my nose which made me move my arm and itch my nose, push my hair off my face and shoo her away so I could close my eyes again .... she crept back over and did it again ... which caused me to go thru the entire motions again ... she did it for about 15 minutes and I was finally like OK OK OK ... IM UP! :rolleyes: As much as I really wanted that last 15 minutes of rest I woke up with a smile

heres what I can tell you ... you cant force yourself or a relationship on Ava. She definately runs the show and she will surely let you know if she dont like it. I will say never give up talking to her, giving her treats and trying but definately listen and watch what signs she is giving you. I hear alot of these parrots choose one "person" as their chosen. Im lucky that Marco chose me, however my husband was pretty dang determined to atleast be able to work with her and he never gave up and she'll respond to him, sit with him, step up for him and talk to him (course tho, shes always lookin for me) but I make sure he gets "his" time with her. HOWEVER my kids cant touch her at all with out a HUGE bite, she dont even want them to attempt to give her a treat she just wants to bite them. Hang in there relationships take TIME and that is "grey time" so its at their pace. Youve got years with her so give it the time. Every bird is different.

Ok so here is my question... I hear that between 1-2 years of age (typically) I know all birds are different. But I hear ... thats when their language and words really start to blossom. So, here we are, Marco turned 1 in December, and I dont want to be jumping the gun or nothing but in the last 2-3 weeks shes been doing so much MORE then her typical sounds and whistles YET not full words that you can make out clearly. So what I call mumbling and grumbling in what sounds like a deep tone, is that how this ALL begins? Like she'll do that for awhile and then one day the word will finally make its way out? I mean some times I swear she'll say ... What ya doing? while looking right at me... but in my head I think .... did she just say that? Am I just hoping thats what it was? Course I answer her with whatever Im doing but still I just wanted to know, do they go thru a stage like where its just a mumbled mess and then it clears up? Cuz thats where Marco seems to be at. She really does it alot when I get home or when shes excited and she'll do it right infront of me so shes not a closet grumbler lol ... maybe I'll try to catch it on video so ya'll can see what Im talking bout.

wow great pics i hope to someday maybe have 1 more lil baby and that marco will be accepting of them i sometimes think maybe to do it NOW while shes young so they can grow up together ...

paper is a great idea !!!!!! newspaper or adding machine paper, I found that marco didnt like that half as much when she was little as much as she does NOWWWWW

Marco's cage has the main "bar/perch" that goes from one side to the other and then up high is her "resting" perch she sleeps there every night and that is made of some sorta wood and then down low is a big fat green one that is safe for her to chew on and destroy (well they all are) and then I have a rope one on the outside of her cage that goes from a high point to a low and she loves that one! I really find Marco didnt move around half as much when I first brought her home, like she does NOW! You'll figure out whats best for your baby once shes there! Good luck. Pretty pics.

Marco has a rope swing, 3 perches at various levels and like 7 toys of various size, and shape for instance she has her lil cell phone as I call it that makes noise and says words its hanging from the side of her cage she loves to smash it against the bars lol i have a toy hanging from the main perch so if she on the bottom of the cage theres something there she can play with she has 2 foreging toys filled with snacks that she hasta work at to get the suprise inside. Most toys are wooden or a wicker like shreddable material some with bells on them and one toy .. her favorite it a roll of adding machine paper that she shreds

i steamed mine for a bit for marco and he really destroyed it but putting nuts and toys in it is a great idea ... they are expensive here too so its just a treat or if I find a good sale

i just had to go out and get marco one ... she loves it too :D it makes me giggle when i hear her set it off ... shes now saying "whatcha doing" just twice so far but it sure makes me smile ....

hmmm goodness marco hasnt started this behaviour but i make sure to make her ... "her food" and feed her on top of her cage before "my food" comes out she dont even pay attention to me. now she might look at me if its the middle of the day and Im eating a cracker or something LOL she knows what those are .....

i finally got marco an artichoke ... she pretty much destroyed it lol dont know how much she actually ate I hate that stuff everywhere lol
