Chezron... you are soooo lucky! I go away once a year, so it took Sophie several years to tolerate it. Its amazing, how different they can all be. Nancy
-
LOL I am with Acappella! Muse... they are doing quite well. They CAN work it out under supervision. You are knowledgeable, insightful and are providing them with the best opportunities to acclimate. Before you know it... your birds will move in together like mine did! ( their own choice). They drove me CRAZY with the cage hopping several years back. Nancy

TRULY adorable! Maybe there is hope that " they" can be our squeaky toys, rather than vice versa! LOL! I've gotta show Sophie this video! She will love it. Nancy
-
FANTASTIC news! I remember you telling us awhile ago, your dilemma with the damaged foot and compensating. I am so excited for you! This calls for a SPA day with the new nails! Nancy

new to the group, and I have a major problem.

kygirl... your baby, is just a baby! They screech, yell, and are out of control, until you teach them different! Sophie eventually learned.... shhhh! Dogs will protest too! BUT... you comitted to this bird. Its not about being fair to the dogs. ( sophie and dogs are best friends now). You accepted this bird into your family. MAKE it work! Nancy -
Teenagers, need to smell good! They are obscessed! Encourage them to open their windows, and close their doors.Of course, Sophie is " knocking". If she only knew Sean is primping for another woman! LOL!

What I love the most about Sophie, is she is SUCH a DIVA...LOVES herself so much... but can "stepup" and be the best leader of our flock! I was very " surprised", when my dog Max, chose her to lead our flock. He had already trained two new pups at the age of 18. I was sure, he was training one of the new pups to be the leader. When he chose Sophie, I actually questioned his decision. I guess he knew what he was doing. Sophie has been awesome leading the gang. Nancy

Yay to Kilaya's first flight! A serious milestone, that deserves recognition! Congrads.... Nancy, Ryan, Sean, Sophie and Sunny

ACTUALLY.... greys are very selfish... but very forgiving. Safety is always first. Nancy

You must always be " Proactive", for both birds and kids. My " trimmer" tends to deal with my birds issues. When seeing and dealing with my birds, I wait in the car until trimmer is ready. Call me on my cell! Don't touch my birds until you are ready, then wash your hands before you touch them! My trimmer does so. When dealing with my pediatrician, he knows I will not sit in a waiting room full of bacteria. I'm there for a " healthy visit". Call me on my cell! ( Sean is embarassed!) OH WELL! Nancy

Your son can deliver deoderant with contact! As far as spraying ( aerosol), for any other reason, is a no.Aerosol is bad. Nancy

incubus1310.... It is important, for our birds to meet other people that can care for them, and that they can trust. It is also important, to deal with the punishment in a healthy way. When punished, let your bird know how much you missed them, let them know what you did on vacation, and ask what did they do. Let them know how much you missed them, and how life was not the same!If you feel and act " guilty", you are screwed! Nancy

Who would have thought that I had a great voice! :-)

Isaac Update: Feathers Coming Back

So glad everything is going well! Sophie sleeps on her door. Sometimes I have to go to work very early. When I come down the steps at 4am.... she has her foot in " self defense mode"... I let her know " its me Sophie... foot down!" She does. Nancy -
Alfie Needs a toy called " see'nsay"... delivers all the animal sounds when you point and hit the button. ( use to have to pull the cord that Sophie loved!) Sophie always thought she was pulling the cord!)... Just a toy that Sophie loved so much! Nancy
-
So glad she is ok physically! Just get back in the saddle when she seems more confident. Nancy
-
2birds.. You are doing a GREAT job with Poet! I didn't know that about a goffin cockatoo! I would HATE hearing my bird cry during a simple trim, but can completely understand when educated! I don't go crazy when my birds protest. I have complete faith in my trimmer and vet, and I am there for support only Nancy

Isaac Update: Feathers Coming Back

Good experiment! I did cover Sophie initially, but she really enjoyed being ready and alert in the morning. Cover lasted just a few weeks. Nancy -
Excellent post by SterlingSL. A practice date is important. Start " skyping from work" if you can. Sophie LOVES talking to Ryan by skype for past two years. The moment he walks in the door...she comes running out! She would " knock us over", if she was big enough! You WILL get punished... Sophie would give me the silent treatment for 48 hours. No feather plucking... but let me know she was mad. Now, she just LOVES her sitters that I spend alot of time choosing and introducing. The moment I walk in the door, I get " HI ROM!" Her new sitter for my Oct vacation, is the sister of Sophie's regular sitter. He is off in college now, but Sophie met her once, just visiting us, and Sophie fell in love with her.I invited her back two more times ( she has a crush on Sean), Sophie loved her both times again. She is excited to babysit the gang, but I have two friends that Sophie loves, to be backup sitters and do stop offs. Jessica knows this, and knows they are available to help her as needed. Too bad Sean won't be here! LOL Nancy

As long as she can't tangle herself in chimes and hang herself... I would take my sweet time getting there to release her. LOL! In reality, your bird will never give up and you will never win! Make sure this is not a safety issue. Once I came home to find Sophie tangled in the cord of my custom made blinds, about to hang herself. Boys weren't watching her as closely as they should. Hence... there went my investment of custom made blinds. All gone! Come to think of it.... there went all my window treatments that I slaved to make! Good thing I love natural light.... Good thing I LOVE my pain in the ass girl Sophie! Nancy

What fantastic parrents you guys are! PARTY at your house with a sleepover!!!! Nancy

It is important, that birds learn to meet the vet and team, as well as bird trimmer. You can have a full flighted bird, but they need to have their beaks, nails and feathers trimmed. Eventually they will do so, on their own Nancy

I LOVE that Sophie loves my boys and has since they were youngsters! Both in college now.... they treat her like the younger sister. Skype...the moment they walk in the door.... get out of the way!!!!! LOL! Sophie only sees Ryan yearly... she never forgets him! Nancy

LOVED the story regarding GracieMae! Greys are amazing! While they are selfish, they can be charming whenever they choose to be! What they don't fake, is their ability to empathize. I love that about Sophie. I am glad you got to see it! Nancy
