Do your birds eat the flax? NONE of mine will go anywhere near it...not even the chickens! lol I keep putting it in there and crossing my fingers that one day.........maybe?

I have been on vacation for the last week and was eager to hear how things were going. Thank you so much for your continued posts. I think it is helpful for everyone to see such a candid picture of your experience with these birds. I can relate to the craziness as I have a heart for rescue and after 10 years some level of craziness is just expected. Now we have the birds to add to the fun!

Welcome! I enjoyed reading your introduction. It helps to know where we all are coming from. I look forward to hearing more.

I would be VERY concerned about adding vitamin D and calcium supplements. Excessive amounts of vitamin D is the cause of the recent recalls that have killed many parrots! Vitamin D and calcium absorption are not as easy as just "taking a pill". These vitamins are best received from food and sunshine.

Thanks for the update, I have been wondering how she was doing. Good luck next week with the specialist.

Both are nice. I would check the bar spacing. I think 1" would be too big for my tiny CAG. Hopefully someone else has advice on that!

So glad you went! Thanks for keeping us posted, hoping for the best.

Welcome! Looking forward to seeing pics of this lucky girl.

If that is a puncture wound it could easily get infected and cost her her life. This might be a good time for a vet visit. I wouldn't take a chance as it looks like more than a scratch.

I wiped it all down with Dr. Bronners and bleach (10%) water. Left it in the sun to dry. Although I will admit some of the smaller branches I added on were not bleached, just sun dried. I also modified the large tree with a more stable stand. Apparently 7 feet of Ironwood was too much for our little Christmas tree stand. lol I think it was too top heavy, so we used a 10 inch lag bolt up the trunk and added a crisscross wood base.

Happy to help! Looks like it was a hit.

Keep smiling....this too shall pass?? I can't even imagine, but your post did make me smile. I promise I am laughing WITH you. You are still laughing , right?

Such a good looking boy. Almonds are a favorite here as well!

Maddening sound for seemingly no reason! Help, we're going insane!!

I was rereading the original post and it seems that Hattie already got the reinforcement she needed when the squeaky door originally preempted your arrival. Now you may need a new calling card and some earplugs. I have a very sneaky suspicion that our Greys are less concerned about the sounds that make us happy as they are about repeating the sounds that make them happy. I know Shadow has yet to repeat a single word that I have TRIED to teach her and yet she seems to find lots of things to say that she has "picked up" from living in our home. I am sure this is a frustrating time, hang in there. It seems that life with a grey is always an exciting and often unpredictable ride. -
Thank you so much for joining Grey Forums! I am always excited to learn about new birds and how they interact with their human flocks. Your pictures have been great, can't wait to see more and learn more about these curious birds. BTW....the beak is very impressive!

Thoughts are with you. After my morning, I am very much aware of how precious these little lives are. Hang in there.

Kim, my heart breaks for you. Your love for him shows as you had a very difficult decision, and chose what would be best for him. hugs

Judygram...funny you should mention the "reputation" of all conures being loud. Even when there were 2 of them, these little birds have the sweetest voices. Of course only time will tell, but I can not imagine that Sammy's sweet chirps could ever be considered annoying.

This is Sami. She is a 3 month old Normal Green Cheek Conure. It seems that the visiting of the 2 little greencheeks got the best of my oldest son as he fell for this little girl and has officially added her to our flock. Sammy is quite the charmer and has quickly become a favorite of all. It seems our home has been heavily hit by MBS.... and we aren't looking for the cure.

Thanks everyone....seems to be better now. Just a lingering scent of overdone mulling spice. I plan to keep the birds outside all day just in case. Nothing like a shot of reality to keep me on my toes. AND.....to remind me to check the smoke detectors!

Shadow, my Grey would rather walk than fly as well. She is fully flighted and very capable of flying, however, she is convinced that she would rather be a "ground bird". Recently we added a plexy guard around her cage to prevent my little dogs from ravaging the newspapers in the poop tray. This actually prevented Shadow from accessing the floor as well. I was pleased because it is not safe for her to be wandering around the floor and I am not appreciating her cabinet restoration skills. Shadow has been dealing with these guards. She learned how to unhook them which presented a danger to the poor little dogs below as the guard would swing from one hook in a decapitating manor. Zip ties fixed that. Then she discovered the fun (and alerting) noise that the guard makes when lifted and dropped! Great fun. And finally after all this manipulation and studying of the guards, Shadow has found the way around the guards and back to her ground bird status. Nothing like living with such a smart bird!

THANKS Dan! I am so glad I have an outdoor space for them. They seem fine so far. My plan is to leave them out all day. Of course the humidity is like 90% so the air is slow to clear. Not sure if I should put the AC back on or keep the exhaust fan going?

I am not sure even what to say but I am still shaking and worried about my girls. As accidents would happen, this points out why we need to be vigilant in preventing what we can. I DO NOT have any teflon cookware THANK GOD but a disaster occurred at my house this morning regarding cookware. Bottom line a simmering pot of spices burned dry and filled my house with smoke! I am VERY worried about my birds both Shadow and a new little greencheek. I managed to get them both outside in their outdoor cages away from the smoke and have been running my exhaust fan. Is there anything else I can do? My poor babies, tears in my eyes I am praying they will be ok.

Sassy...I have been visiting with Lola and her clutch mates, including a pair of Goffins and a Rosie. Since they have fledged, all have become much more exploratory with their beaks. Some more so than others (ouch). I always tell them "no bite" in a very matter of fact tone and offer a distraction. It is exciting for me to see the developmental changes in the babies as they have fledged...so much more confidence. Good luck!

So cute! It looks like she has a very well equipped play space!
