  1. So, I have decided that Shadow and her new baby sister (when she arrives) need a bigger/better place to play. Something natural with plenty of room to spread their wings. This is the start......my question is whether or not a 7 foot tree is too tall? I am fairly certain the girls will not have a fear of heights, but am I setting myself up for trouble trying to get them down?? I am MUCH less than 7 feet tall. Comments encouraged.....
  2. You poor boys.....this is Shadow. I had to leave my original home when the lady that hatched me got sick and couldn't take care of me anymore. I went to live with another lady that had a bird that looked like me. They were really nice but I was still not too sure about this whole new house thing and I chewed my feathers a little bit when I was worried. I heard the lady talking one day about me. She said that they needed to decide if I was staying with them or going somewhere else. I didn't know what that means. I guess they decided to let me live somewhere else because one night they packed me up with all my stuff and went for a ride. All I remember is getting out of the car, still in my carrier.....did I mention they put some weird wood chip thingies in there...YUCK! I had to hang upside down the whole way. Well the first thing I did when we got to this new place was to tell them in no uncertain terms "GET ME OUT OF HERE!" The lady said I was going to like this new place and my new flock. I guess I was lucky....no one ever hurt me or said bad words around me. I am so sorry you boys didn't have nice humans.
  3. I can't help but think there may be some benefit to seeing first hand the type of breeding environment a bird is coming from rather than putting my trust in a long distant conversation.

    Hay you guys

Little One deserves to be in the limelight......she/he is a cutie.
  5. You might try Brightwood Aviary in Dawsonville. She has a great website too.
  6. With all the recent pics of Lola, I thought it was important to include Shadow too. So here she is....
  7. I feel your pain. My girl is the youngest of the bunch, last to wean for certain! She is still such a baby and I can't stand being away.
  8. My question was about Amazons, as I had been told there was a very big difference between the two. Reading through the many posts here, I am not certain that it matters as much with a grey. Unfortunately, I do not recall a specific post for boy/girl discussion of greys. I am sure others will have some advice.
  9. Just think...now you will be sitting on the edge of your seat waiting for each new word!
  10. TRICKY! Thought it would be too much of a coincidence that I just read about the QOB Conure and there it was. Never would have guessed Zon.....but so beautiful. Sometimes mutation isn't a bad word!
  11. I recently had the same question! Everyone here has such great input. Ultimately, I felt like I needed to go with my heart while heeding the advice of those around me with more experience. Whatever you choose, your bird will have it's own personality regardless of male of female. My Grey likes my husband best....Shadow is a girl who likes boys best.
  12. Is that a Queen of Bavaria Conure? Both are suuch pretty birds!
  13. Hope the transition is going well.
  14. VERY cute.....let the fun begin!
  15. Thanks for sharing.....Susu is a beautiful bird!
  16. Touching really. I find myself looking for toys and toy parts everywhere I go. My Grey likes cardboard the best and her new swing. She doesn't spend much time actually playing with toys. I have no idea what to expect from the new Amazon, but the shopping sure is fun!
  17. Fun times! Congrats....can't wait to see pics and hear how it goes. I understand these are fun little birds.

    My first parrot

My first bird was a parakeet too. Only it didn't belong to me ......... About the time I moved out of my parents home, I purchased a parakeet for my mom. She loved that little bird and treasured it even more because it was a gift from me, the little part of me that I left behind. She named the little bird Harpo as he did not speak and was a relatively quiet little guy. However, it wasn't long before she had him talking up a storm! Such fond memories my mom has of little Harpo. No surprise, she is tickled at my new found interest in birds! It took me a while to figure it out...but by the look of things, I have contracted a serious case of MBS...and I undrstand there is no cure.
  19. She is beautiful...they do grow up fast.
  20. I am looking forward to hearing how Simon progresses with this speech. Please keep the updates coming.
  21. Soo much fun! I love it. Looks just like the mess than ensued when Shadow found her first bunch of bananas. Can't help but smile.
  22. I received this photo this morning. My friend captured her in the aviary where she took her first flight. Lola is the baby on the left.
  23. TRUE...no wonder mating wasn't going very well!
  24. Our little Lolita is growing up! She is a great little snuggle bug and spends much of our visit snuggled in my lap. Today, she took a little hop from my arms to her playstand and was flapping her wings preparing for her first flight...which she promptly took AFTER I left! I heard she flew 12 feet and made a respectable landing. I am completely in love with this baby. sorry for the sideways picture....again!
