They are fabulous little birds. My friend (the breeder) and I have been sharing stories and pictures as I hatched baby Serama the same day she hatched my baby in waiting. Funny thing...Amazon eggs and Serama eggs are very close in size as are the babies....lucky for me, Serama fluff up in no time and are ready to feed themselves with in 24 hours of hatch! : ) Feel free to visit my website fleurdelis-farm.com lots more pics there.

Beautiful photos of beautiful birds...thanks for always sharing your adventures!

I promised Ray I would post a picture of my American Serama. Not sure where to post so here in the photo room it goes...weighing only 10 oz at 6 months old.

Well, taking all three was the suggestion of my teenagers! Not an option!!! Even if it would make me an expert..lol Luvparrots..are you worried what the next few years might bring?
-
Well, I spent the better part of the day with the babies....turns out the male is the largest and calmest of the group, however, there is a female available too. She is tiny. Of course they are all very cute! I wish my family had an opinion, but it looks like I am really relying on your input. If you haven't noticed, decision making is not easy for me. I really liked this big boy but after your input and reading a bit more, it seems the female might be a safer choice. The little girl is in the middle with the pale beak, boy is on the bottom.

So sorry for your loss. It is hard to part with dear friends.
-
Thanks again...wish me luck. Visiting babies tomorrow!

Jayd...are you saying a girl is a better choice? Even with the potential for the B*%&$ to surface in season? Shadow was rather OCD when she was in season this spring. I am very interested in your thoughts. Does anyone have experience with the Panama?
-
Thanks for your input Ray! I am so confused because we picked "our" bird based on it's even temperament even as such a young chick...it was the best behaved during the blood draw for DNA testing even surpassing the original bird we were looking at. My friend is the breeder so I have been trusting her judgement, but she is sincere about me talking to folks who live with these birds into adulthood. She is really an amazing person. Panamas are known for their mild manners, but.......I am hoping more people will respond! Perhaps kharma is on my side, the female DNA is a happy accident and I should go with the best personality??

Okay....my secret is out. I have committed to getting a Panama . I still can't believe it is happening, however, there has been a slight glitch in my plans. I have been watching and handling this clutch since hatch and was expecting to get a boy. To make a long story short, the "boy" I was watching may well be a girl. DOES ANYONE HAVE THOUGHTS (ok, I know you all will have thoughts ) Any advice on choosing an amazon with regard to male or female? I currently have Shadow the grey who loves men most. lol Help...I will likely need to decide tomorrow morning when I visit again. THANKS!!!

So sweet. You have such an amazing relationship with your birds. Kudos to you for being such a dedicated parront!

Great review! Thanks for sharing.

Great post! Reminds those of us that are owned by our avian friends that we need to be vigilant in observing changes in behavior....sooner rather than later.
-
Sooo innocent!
-
OHH! lol In that case....bring on the fun. Hard to believe that this little guy will soon be into all of THAT!

Hey everyone...it's Shadow's mom. Haven't posted in a while but lurk often. I have my eye on a baby Panama. Been visiting since the clutch was only 1 day old! This thread is scarey!! lol

I will say that Shadow's feelings towards me were much more obvious after I had to be away from home. I had several days where I was gone all day (normally home) and when I finally sat down Shadow eagerly stepped up and obviously wanted to be with me. I am still not her favorite but that's ok. I think she was thinking "how can I miss you if you never go away?". Once I was gone....she realized what she was missing. I have a dear friend that reminds me all the time that what Shadow sees is that my job is to take care of everyone, people and animals alike so why would it be any different with her? Heartbreaking for those of us that want to be the favorite. I was very sad but again, once I came to realize that Shadow didn't actually dislike me I have come to terms with our relationship and everything is great. Maybe one day things will change...who knows? Living with a grey bird seems to be a new adventure every day! BTW...Shadow does not let me give her scratches and in the beginning I honestly felt like she was just going to be "another mouth to feed". Fortunately that has changed!

I am fairly sure I won't be the only one to suggest this....be patient. I completely understand how you feel. I often feel like Shadow's slave (chief cook and bottle washer for all in my home). However, after some time, I have come to terms with her preference for my husband. More importantly, I have continued to be patient, gentle and kind. Once I accepted the reality, I lessened my expectations and stopped trying so hard. I was assured that my devotion would not go unnoticed and I am happy to say it is true! Although Shadow still loves him best, she is much better with me and I have come to appreciate her small tokens of affection. Shadow has been with us for 5 months and I know in my heart that she has accepted me and I have accepted our relationship, however she wants it to be.

I am considering adding a zon to my flock that currently consists of just one grey.
-
Besides the bird food.. What else do you give your Grey?

Shadow loves wacky mac (spiral veggie pasta) with fresh pork bolognese! -
My first thought echoed Talon's response....Ohh, she is beautiful! lol Best of luck. I am excited about following your journey. I have a feeling I might have an amazon in my future.
-
So beautiful! Welcome....I definitely look forward to seeing and hearing more about your flock!
