I may be on the east coast but I have never seen a CAG or a TAG for $500 or less. Around here prices are double that!
-
This was a great read with my morning coffee.....looking forward to my first Thanksgiving with Shadow! I know I am thankful for all my "Greyt" friends here on the forum. Your support and advice is indispensable.
-
That's very funny!
-
I use the little cardboard traps from Biocare. They are nn-toxic AND they actually work! No more moths here.
-
Thanks for the info! You are certainly not the ONLY crazy person. I've only had Shadow for 3 months and I have been thinking about and planning her space the whole time!
-
I used this method with Shadow as well. She loves my husband and and never questions his intent. Not wanting to give her any reason to love me less...I gave him the job of introducing the shower and it was a huge success!
-
VERY nice. What did you use for the screening?
-
Amazing. Your stories and pictures are priceless. Thank you so much for sharing!

Thanks..The funny thing is that was the one site I managed to find myself! Great list without a doubt. Based on that info.... I am assuming, without the leaves, it should be fine?

Does anyone know if American Hornbeam, (AKA Musclewood, Ironwood or Carpinus caroliniana) is parrot friendly? I found one source that indicated yes except for perhaps the leaves. I would like to use it for a playstand/perch. As the name indicates, it is a very hard wood with nice sinewy feel. And it is prevalent in my yard!
-
Is this screened from the inside to prevent the birds from chewing the wood?
-
I am so sorry to hear of your loss. It sounds like you and Cody enjoyed your time together very much.
-
I know words are not enough. My hearts breaks for your loss.

A big thanks to everyone for sharing your story. I am so happy that this thread has become so entertaining and informative too. Please keep the stories coming!
-
Well, Talon.....how did that happen? I am an animal person and recently a chicken person. But I never thought I would have Exotics either. And now I want another? Can you tell me the order you got your birds and why?
-
Thanks for sharing your stories! I have been trying very hard, probably too hard, to come to terms with my desire for an additional bird. Of course the decision as to what bird remains unanswered. ~Luvparrots, which bird was your second bird and why? Please keep your stories coming. I am considering TAGS and CAGS of course but also, Pionus, Poicephalus and perhaps Panama Amazon. This forum is such a great place to learn about so many different experiences. I am looking forward to hearing more.

As some of you know, I recently rehomed an 8 year old CAG named Shadow. She is my first parrot but our love for her has made me consider another. I have noticed that many of you have a variety of birds. As a "Grey person" what made you choose an alternate breed? What might be the pros and/or cons of choosing another Grey vs an alternate breed? I tend to over think most things but am very interested to see what you all think. Thanks for your help!

Although I have heard Shadow make "off the cuff" statements, my husband has not..... Until the other day as he was walking out the back door into the garage and Shadow promptly asked "you going out there?" He was impressed.

He is so cute like that!

This is terrible. I am so sorry you are having so much trouble. This may not mean anything, but when desperate times.....my boys have always had respiratory issues. One has asthma the other has chronic croup. During an episode, the asthma kid responds well to nebulizer, the croup kid often responds well to cold air (like stand in front of the open freezer) then warm moist air. Like I said, I don't know if this is any help at all, just thinking outside the box. Good luck!

Thanks for sharing..she is beautiful!

Shadow and I have come to an agreement. After a series of unfortunate events, (that I feared would turn out badly), I ended up with several bites to my hand....luckily no blood, this time. I promised to give Shadow as much space as she needed. No pressure at all. My DH continues to enjoy her affection and we all hang out with no problem. Well, here we are a week later and Shadow actually lowered her head and bumped my hand for a scratch! NO bites! This is a first as she is a master at the sucker punch so I don't ever respond to her requests. But this time seemed different as she rubbed against me, actually encouraging the head rub. She has also let me "extract" her from her favorite cabinet without incident. Maybe we are making progress?? After reading the entire thread regarding the Bite Me Club, I realize how lucky I am that Shadow tolerates me and my relationship with her is better than I thought. Thanks to all who have posted there. The stories and responses were a big help in my learning what to expect and how to respond!

My girl Shadow does the same for my husband, although she has yet to actually vomit on him. She is 8! I think she just really loves him. lol

Very concerned first time owner ... a lot of questions !!!

I don't think this is a good idea because Greys are very sensitive. Your intuition is correct. There is so much great information on this forum. It does sound like she is coming around. I hope you enjoy her as much as we are enjoying ours. -
Well, it's been about 6 weeks since her arrival and Shadow continues her love affair with my husband. He can pretty much do whatever he wants with her, petting, step-ups on command, showering, you name it he can do it. No bites! I am simply allowed to feed her and clean up after her unless of course she flies off an lands on the floor, then I am an acceptable mode of transport to a more comfortable location. Luckily, she is very endearing and continues to share her vocabulary and make me laugh. As she has come face to face with our managerie of pets, she has addressed each one.......one of the cats confronted her from the side of her cage and she immediately ran to greet him "MEEOW". Then, as she became brave enough to hang from the bottom of her cage she was greeted by my tiny dogs and her response was a happy-go-lucky "Hello". Shadow is always happy to spend her mornings helping with morning chores and sharing our breakfast. As of today, I am transitioning her to an organic pelleted diet (she was formerly eating the Zupreem Fruity bits) along with fruits and veggies. She is a great eater and rarely refuses food so I am hoping for an easy transition. Stay tuned for more as Shadow continues her journey.
