    Don't Touch Me!

Very cute...and timely too. My family heard Shadow make the same announcement this morning!
  3. No expert here either, but he looks like a CAG should look, black beak, red tail. I have noticed that the shades of grey varies on each bird...that's what makes them all unique!
  4. Always good to hear when bonding is going so well, especially when there was so much prior abuse. I am so happy for you and Barnaby.
  5. Bialetti Aeternum. I think my DH got it at Target. It really is amazing.
  6. My new favorite kitchen toy is my Italian, ceramic, non-stick, bird friendly frying pan! Way better than my old teflon and bird safe too! Nothing sticks to this thing. I am very impressed.
  7. This is great news. It is so much easier to heal when you are feeling loved and he obviously knows you care!

    Shadow's Gift

I am still wallowing in the joy of her gift! Today she did her walk across the floor...stepped up and wanted to hang out on my arm for a while. Then she hopped up on the counter and helped with the dishes. Seems she just wanted to be near by, as I was standing at the counter getting coffee and breakfast. Thank you all for your continued encouragement it means a lot!
  9. Bribery is the BEST! Since Shadow won't step up for me...bribery is all I have. But, with a high value reward, Shadow will go right into her cage no problem. She has gotten so accustomed to the sound of the treat bag she now will go running to her cage anytime she hears any bag! If a treat is not waiting in her bowl she will come out and look at me then go back in, as if to say..."hey look, I'm in my cage...where's the goods?" PS...she only gets nuts in her cage as a reward for going in. Sounds like your Gracie is a confident little girl!
  10. As many of you know, my relationship with Shadow is tentative. She does not dislike me, but I have come to accept that I am not her favorite person and as such, do not get the same privileges as my DH. However, today she decided to give me the best post Christmas gift ever! I was playing peekaboo with her under her cage and she decided to hop off and walk across the floor to be closer. This is not unusual except that she walked right up to me sitting on the floor and rubbed her head on my hand and GENTLY beaked me and then continued to rub her beak over my closed fist. I was completely shocked because a lowered head usually ends up in me getting a bite. I was so excited I grabbed the sunflower seeds and continued to sit with her gently taking seeds from my hand and continuing to gently beak my fingers (I think my chocolate colored nail polish looked a bit like a seed). I am so proud of her for being so gentle, and look forward to the next time she decides to bestow me another such gift. Hopefully before next Christmas...but I will be waiting, patiently!
  11. I am praying for you and Barnaby. You were brought together for a reason....and now we know why. Please keep us updated on his condition.
  12. My husband got a hat like that this morning! His was shades of grey (no green)! First time Shadow had ever actually landed on his head. Doesn't surprise me though....she still adores him. Why not a Grey bird Christmas Hat. So funny.
  13. I have experienced prolapsed vent with chickens but it typically related to egg laying issues. I have also seen prolapsed uterus in dogs, again a female thing. I am certainly no expert but to me, a prolapse is similar to a hemorrhoid, when inflamed tissue protrudes. I have no idea about this poor parrot, it is good that it is not out all the time. Please keep us updated with the vets opinion so that we can all learn something from this tragic situation.
  14. Thanks! They are on the list of potential birds for the secret place im saving for an additional parrot.
  15. I would love to hear about the white-capped pionus! If you could share some info.
  16. I think he was asked to feed birds "at a foundation", salty foods. I hate the thought of feeding salty foods. Not good for people, not good for birds. JMHO
  17. I have been exchanging messages with Shelly and she ask that I share her wishes for all to have a Merry Christmas!
  18. Talon...where IS this store? Sounds like it's worth the drive. (I also have a secret space waiting in my home and heart for another parrot )
  19. WELCOME! I stalked this site fro some time before jumping in and I'm glad I did. So many nice, informative people always willing to help.
  20. HAPPY SWEET SIXTEEN CRICKET! May you have many many more.
  21. Speaking from a logistics standpoint, I would think it would depend on your home. I am sitting here thinking about my own space and between my kitchen, living room and family room I would only have one corner with wall space on either side. And that one already has a piece of furniture in it. I think there was another thread about corner cages too. You might find more info there if you can find the thread. They look really nice, but you are right about the investment! Good luck in your search for the perfect new cage.
  22. This topic came up on another thread so I was encouraged to post so that we may all have a reference. Cinnamon has lots of great health benefits, but how much is too much? A sprinkle on fresh food to preserve freshness in warm weather seems reasonable, however, can my CAG enjoy an occasional cinnamon stick? If so, does anyone know about actual consumption? Like so many other items that birds simply "chew up and spit out" would cinnamon sticks be a suitable option or is there concern about ingesting too much? Inquiring minds want to know.....
