  1. Awesome!! Xandir (RIP) was late fledging because of the recalled Kaytee formula that made him sick and ended up taking his short life. But I remember the first day he took flight, I was thrilled. Kim
  2. Thank you everyone! I'm thinking I want a female TAG. That way the bird would be as different from Xandir as possible. But I'm really liking what I've heard/read about TAG's so "different from Xandir" is not the only reason. Her TAG pair has not given her any babies yet and I don't know if they have ever had any, so it might not even work. But I'm not in a hurry so we'll just see what next yr brings. Kim
  3. So I spoke with Tina (Xandir's breeder and my friend) and she is willing to give me another Grey. She has one pair of CAG's and one pair of TAG's. Both are somewhat new to her and I don't know anything about their past. Obviously the CAG's have given her babies already but the TAG's have not. I think they went to nest twice but all were infertile(?). I'm really leaning towards a TAG this time but I don't think I've ever even seen one. Mostly thinking TAG because it would be different enough from Xandir. But I've been reading about them and some people believe they are calmer, more accepting of change, less likely to pluck... But CAG's are awesome! ) Can you tell me more about both? Kim
  4. Xandir died today. When I took his meds to Tina last Sunday he was doing really well. Climbing all over the small cage he was in wanting out. He was even hanging from the ceiling. Then a few days ago he was not feeling so well again but got better. He at times would eat some on his own but Tina has been feeding him by hand all along. A necropsy will be done and we will continue to fight Kaytee to make them pay for all the vet bills. Rest in peace Xandir. You were dearly loved and will be greatly missed. Kim
  5. I made the three hour round trip last night to take the meds up to Tina and Xandir. She said that after I dropped him off on Thursday night he took a turn for the worse. She was very afraid he would not survive the night. Bit last night when I got there he was SO much better. He was alert and active, climbing all over the cage, even hanging from the ceiling, wanting out. She said that he is eating and drinking some on his own as well. I really believe that he’s past the worst and is well on his way to being as healthy as he can be. Kim
  6. Thank you again everyone. Reading your posts brings tears to my eyes but also make me smile. Knowing that you care and understand helps a great deal. Kim
  7. Thank you so much everyone. Your understanding and support mean a lot to me. I still cry but I know in my heart that it was the right decision. Kim
  8. The blood test results were not good. Uric acid level at 35, 10 is normal. Sodium is low and potassium is high. He’s also dehydrated and needs fluid therapy (hand fed fluid throughout the day). He also needs to be on a very special diet to help prevent this happening again. So I’ve given him back to my friend/his breeder. She does not work outside of the home. For that reason, and for other reasons as well, she can take much better care of him than I can. But she is a friend so I will hear all about him all the time and will even get to see him once in a while. (We live a couple of hr’s away from each other) Kim
  9. Thanks everyone! We're home now. Nothing much to tell until we get the blood test results. The fecal showed inflammation of the kidney and more "bad" gut bacteria then the Dr. would like to see. She wasn't sure what antibiotic to put him on because of the 2 she would like one is hard on the kidneys and the other is hard on bones/joints and hes a baby still. So she put him on Metronidazole Benz Chicken, lol. Once she gets the blood tests back she will decide what other one to put him on. Kim

    Food recall

  11. Just a short history for those that don't know.... Xandir, 5 month old Congo African Grey, has had a hard life so far. He was fed the recalled Kaytee formula and was really sick. Then he crashed through a window screen and was missing for 4 days. Well he has not been himself for a few days now. He's not eating as much as I would like and ALL he does when he sees me is beg to be fed. He has an appointment with a vet tomorrow at 1:30. Please keep him in your thoughts. Kim
  12. Thank you everyone! I really thought I would never see him again and was so thrilled when I got the call. He has been wonderful since being home and yesterday we went to go visit his breeder. We had a nice visit. ) Kim
  13. I’m needing to re-home my IRN’s. When I got permission from my landlord to get birds in the first place he said that if he receives any complaints the birds must go. So I then spoke with my neighbors and asked them to please come to me if my birds are being noisy and bothering them. I’ve had birds for over a year now but the IRN’s for only a few months. A neighbor has come to me and said that he hears screaming louder, and more often, then he cares to. We determined that it’s the IRN’s and if I don’t re-home them I may end up being forced to re-home all my birds. They are terrified of everyone but me, even my son, Conrad, who lives with me. He spends part of his time at his dads and when here spends most of his time in his room, so they don’t see him much. When he goes anywhere near the birds the IRNs freak out big time. Screaming and flailing about. The screaming is quite loud and I’m afraid they will hurt themselves. The problem will be finding them a home because it will be the same no matter where they go. Kim
  14. Xandir does it as well. He's 20 weeks old tomorrow. When he does this I hand feed him, even just pieces of carrot. ) Kim
  15. I would LOVE Dressage lessons, but why did you post this? It's 2006, do you know the winner? ) Kim
