  1. That is so cute! I love seeing different types of birds getting along like that!
  2. They are still acting this way together. Any ideas?
  3. When I make the leap it'll cost me either 850 for a TAG or 1200 for a CAG
  4. What a cutie! I'm happy that after everything you were able to find some peace. =]
  5. Do you live at home with family, or with a bunch of room mates? If you live with family I think it's important to have the bird get used to everyone around him/her. If you live with room mates, I think the chaos of people moving out, new people moving in, etc, over the years, could be a bit stressfull.
  6. Shelby, the 'tiel, and Jon, the Senegal were getting along great. They were preening each other, following each other around the bed, etc. However, today Shelby flew into Jon's cage when I was about to take Jon out. It freaked Jon out, and when they were on the bed together Jon tried everything to attack Shelby. I have them separated now, but i had such high hopes for them getting along! The second time I tried to put them together the same thing happened.
  7. I read an article about this in Bird Talk magazine. Having an air filter in the house is supposed to prevent it, I believe. I'm so sorry that you have to give up your beloved pets. Please feel better!
  8. Wow, what an amazing story! And, count me in on those "you did WHAT?!" stories! I do rat rescue and trust me, people think you are twice as nuts for driving three hours to rescue a rat!

    Jon's wings!

Aw, I was hoping I could like...buy him prosthetic flights or something, hehe! I have already not put perches high up in his cage, and I don't allow him on his playtop yet. I just know that the second I turn my back something awful will happen.
  10. How cute! Did you take her shopping with you? hehe
  11. I think the girl who was supposed to get Jon wanted his wings clipped, because they are clipped right now. Shelby, at seven months, JUST grew his flights back in, and has been finally enjoying life! He flies around the room, doing tight circles, and sings the whole time. Jon watches Shelby fly and flaps his wings. He can barely lift himself off the ground. One time he even fell from my bed to the floor when he tried to fly. It is upsetting me a great deal, especially since Jon is pretty awkward on his feet (his nails were trimmed too short). Is there anything I can do to ease the period between now and when his flights grow in?
  12. I go to school full time AND I work part time! There are days where I get home at midnight...but I still make sure my fids have at least an hour each day out of the cage, and I make it up to them on my days off. I think that Cockatoos are the birds that you need to worry about if you work full time.
  13. I don't have an African Grey, yet. I move into my apartment in September...so by may of 2012 I'll have a deposit on a grey.
  14. I love that my birds start making noise around 5am...it helps me wake up!
  15. Thank you so much for the advice! I don't want his/her diet to be too soy protein heavy. How do you get yours protein?
  16. Aw what a little sweetie! Needing his mommie to protect him from the big bad metal birds in the sky! hehe!
  17. I have seen such an improvement in Shelby's attitude that I really don't want to move him. I suppose I'll need to hook a hose outside to get rid of all the droppings!
  18. I re-arranged my room when I got Jon so that both Jon and Shelby can be by the window. This was on Sunday. Today is Tuesday. Ever since we moved here when I was little, you would only hear the birds outside in the morning. I mean, we don't get much here except for sparrows and pigeons and other small brown birds. You would hear them chirping from 5am-9am and that is it. Now, since Sunday evening I started hearing the birds outside. Monday morning I woke up and there were bird droppings EVERYWHERE outside. I just got home from a morning class, and I saw birds I've never seen before flying and perching onto my roof. I'm not talking three or four, I'm talking seven to ten, possibly more that I can't see. You can hear them all day! Jon is a quiet little baby, but Shelby has been singing and chirping all day. Is it possible that he is attracting these wild birds? I don't personally care, but the 'rents are getting pretty bemused.
  19. Hey i have a question...Jon is three months old (Hatch date March 4th) and he is fully weaned. Sometimes when i have him on my lap he'll look up at me, open his beak, and make a baby squeaking noise. Sometimes he'll also grab one of my fingers and almost...how do I explain...like, try to pull my finger back and forth really fast while making this squeaking nose. He will also softly latch onto my nose and mouth and do this. What the heck is he doing?
  20. Here is a picture of Jon and Shelby together. They actually get along pretty well out of cages:
  21. I don't think I'm too worried about MBS. I have decided on three birds. A 'tiel, the sennie and a CAG or TAG. I know I'd never be able to take care of all of them like they deserved if I had any more. His name is Jon! I just picked him up today. Here is his cage:
  22. Hey guys! I'm still a few months away from my African Grey Parrot, but the breeder I got my 'tiel from had a Senegal that was never picked up by his family, so I am going to go get him today! Shelby is my first bird, so I'm very excited to experience Sennie antics! Here is the pic Fancy Feathers sent me:
  23. Eshe? I LOVE that name! Obviously =] You have a beautiful flock!
  24. Hey, I'm going to Fancy Feathers this weekend (either today or tomorrow) to pick up a Senegal no one wanted. Maybe I will see your baby!
  25. Too cute! I am so jealous!
