  1. I live in NYC. The petshop here has a Grey for 1800. The breeder I bought my 'tiel from, that's two hours away in the middle of NJ has Greys that are 850 for a TAG and 1200 for a CAG
  2. Is this behavior common in all birds? My 'tiel does this to me all the time when I am petting him.
  3. I am so sorry for your loss! Grey sounded like a real fighter.
  4. I am so sorry! I am sure that Grey had an amazing life with you.
  5. I'm so sorry this happened! Perhaps the mother suspected something wrong with the clutch? I'm sure you'll find your soul bird soon!
  6. Welcome! Why don't you tell us more about your bird and not just the WONDERFUL place you got him from? =]
  7. I'm not saying I wouldn't, personally...but there has to be some retribution from the breeder for A) Not sending the correct pictures, B) Not telling about the hurt talon, and possible C) The question of gender. I'm sure if the Grey is a male she'll love him no matter what, but this breeder has some explaining to do.
  8. If the baby is, indeed, a female, then I'm sure that they will have the perfect relationship. However, She really, really had her heart set on a female. If this bird turns out to be a male, she'd be spending the next 50+ years with a bird she didn't want. I really hope the breeder in this case does the responsible thing.
  9. My rat cage is called a 'Critter Nation'. I have my five males in the top half and my two girls in the bottom half. he levels are separated by a pan, plexiglass, and a ladder that hooks up to the pan. It's a very large cage, and I daresay they are all very happy in it. I've never seen The Decemberists live. It sounds like she had a blast, though!
  10. Haha, how cute! Is she union or freelance?
  11. When you bathe him, do you get under his feathers? From my experience with my 'tiel, and from what I've read, the skin can get very dry under there, and without proper attention during bathing, it can become very itchy, and as a result the bird will pluck those feathers.
  12. Hey I have a CAG vs TAG related question: The breeder I got Shelby from charges 1200 for a CAG but only 850 for a TAG. I would think a TAG would be more expensive because they're less common?
  13. She is so gorgeous! Wow! I'm sure she is adding lots of joy to your home!
  14. He is so handsome! I really hope for the best, for both of you.
  15. Congratulations on bringing your baby girl home! I read through this whole thread, and I am very excited for you! I can't wait to see pics. I'd also love to see pics of your CAG and TAG together to see the difference!
  16. Thank you! I will go looking for that toy when I can. I love how spoiled all of your birds are. They are very lucky to live in that avian paradise!
  17. Most prices I've seen here in the USA (granted I live in a city, so prices in the city and surrounding areas tend to be higher than rural areas) are around 1200-1400 dollars. As for the house visit, I've heard of dog breeders doing this, and sometimes dog rescues, but never a bird breeder. Does he want to see the cage specifically?
  18. So, a new question has popped up! I may be getting a job on campus, along with my current job, so I'd have extra money on hand. On average how much does it cost you to take your grey to the vet? It costs me around 50 for Shelby, but I'm wondering if a larger bird will cost more.
  19. Shelby is turning 5 months on the 1st, so he's still young, but right now he can whistle a few tunes, wolf whistle, and he says 'Pretty Bird' in a gravely voice. Oh, and he heard Charlie Sheen laugh on TV one day and liked it so much he repeats it whenever he can. Other than that one exception, he usually only copies what females say to him in a high pitched voice.
  20. If I may ask, where did you get the toy that your grey is ripping apart at the start of the video? It looks like something Shelby would enjoy a great deal!
  21. I have a disease called Myasthenia Gravis. While I am not wheelchair-bound, there are days where I am bed-bound. This might sound crazy but it seems that whenever I get a pet, they are understanding of what is going on with me, and don't try too much to makeme be extremely active. I wonder if the same will happen when I get a Grey. For example, Shelby, my cockatiel, will be really hyper when I'm up and active. Even if I'm typing at the computer he'll take my keys and fly away and play games with me. There will be other times, however, where I am typing at the computer and he can tell I'm having a bad day physically (I know it sounds crazy...) he'll just sit on my shoulder or knee and let me pet him.

    Sick again

I am so sorry your bird is sick! The important thing is that you are doing your very best to keep your bird as happy and healthy as possible. I know many a pet owner that wouldn't even take their pet to the vet. You'll be in my thoughts!
  23. What a cutie! I love how baby grey's look like they have a big smile.
  24. I don't have a grey yet, but my 'tiel has so far only bitten me once. I was laying on my bed on my stomach with Shelby running back and forth on my back. I was typing on the laptop when he jumped off my back onto the laptop and started nudging my hand for scritches. I scratched his head and absent-mindedly scratched over a pin feather. He let out a scream and bit down hard on my finger!
