  1. Well, I move next month, so the first big item of furniture I'm going to buy is a CAG cage! (not kidding) I feel like, right now, I'm more open to rescue, especially after meeting this lovely female CAG
  2. I have decided that the next time I go to the shop I am going to speak with the shop owner and see if I can get something done. I'm not going to take her home, but I will check up on her now and again. Thanks for the advice!
  3. He said she was 1400. I really want a CAG, but I won't be able to take care of one properly, especially with my two other birds, until at least December. The thing is..it's the only pet store near where my boyfriend lives, and I don't want to stir up any controversy, especially since he, my boyfriend, has a hedgehog, and taking care of them isn't something that every pet store accommodates.
  4. ...With a fiesty female CAG in a pet store by where my boyfriend lives. When I first met her, she was in her small, dirty cage, rubbing up against the bars, begging to be scritched. I thought she was such a sweet thing. The second time I met her, she hissed at me and pinned her eyes. Today, she bent her head for me to scritch her, so I did, and after about a minute she turned and bit my finger. It bled, but I laughed, and she bent her head to be scratched again, what a lady! I am not fiscally ready to get a CAG yet, but this has really been my first experience with one. Any advice to keep me from impulse buying/yelling at the shop owner for keeping her in a small cage eating only sunflowers?
  5. My cockatiel has a bare feet fetish! Luckily, he won't flirt with them if they're wearing socks. I think he's a naughty bird! Seriously though...if you try to pick him up while he's flirting with feet, he will attack you!
  6. Still, lots of parrots tend to get spooked, and lets say he gets spooked and you're sound asleep, and he flies into a glass window or a corner and gets hurt. Sorry, I think my post sounds harsh but I'm not trying to be. I'm just genuinely concerned about these things, because it was something I was considering.
  7. He/she sounds really sweet! Have you contacted the breeder to let them know you're rehoming? I know that some breeders will take the bird back and rehome for you if your time is limited! Wish Boston wasn't so far away...
  8. Wow, that's a sketch?! I thought it was the drawing tool from photoshop, amazing!
  9. I can picture your apartment, because I'm moving into one very similar next month. Do you have any free wires laying about? Is there a part of your stove that's always warm? Is there a gap between any of your cabinets?
  10. Okay, so, you should submit the unedited video to cute things falling asleep! http://www.cutethingsfallingasleep.org/
  11. Matilda is such a sweetie! Who was the stunning Grey in the background of one of those pics, by the way?
  12. Yes. I'd also suggest letting Gandalf get used to the carrier at home with the cover on it, first, so he isn't overly loud. I guess I'm stressing this point, because one time I had my oldest rat, Aristotle, in the carrier on the bus and a woman freaked out and knocked the carrier out of my hands. He's okay! But I'm sure people are equally afraid of birds, and I don't want a less hardy bird getting hurt.
  13. Hello! I live in New York City. New York City MTA, specifically, has a rule that animals are allowed on public transportation, so long as they're in a carrier...and dogs need to be muzzled. I've taken all my animals on public transport at some point, since I, as of yet, don't drive. My suggestion to you is to get a blanket to cover the carrier because you will get a lot of unwanted attention. This is mainly why I usually get a ride to the vet or get a car service, because the unwanted attention worries me. Also, find out what the laws are in your area for public transport.

    Noises

For some reason, when I sneeze it comes out as a loud, high pitched squeak. Shelby has been copying that. Also....don't keep your birds in the bedroom, if you know what I'm saying. That was an awkward thing to explain to visitors!
  15. Zazu is the perfect name for an African Parrot!
  16. I just got power back, it's been out a long time. I kept my birds hydrated, because without power it was amazingly hot, and we couldn't open the windows because of the winds. Turned out okay, guess I worried too much!
  17. I use zupreem with all my birds because it is good and widely available in an emergency. Might I suggest to start switching your tag now?A gradual change will help your bird get used to the new food.
  18. Thanks for the ideas! I will buy supplies for an emergency when the stores open again
  19. Thanks! I currently live on the second floor of a house. My birds have been acting weird all day. I think they know something is coming
  20. Ugh! That sounds awful.I really wish there were stricter laws on animal breeding
  21. I was at the renaissance fair last weekend where the man running the "birds of prey" show had an owl that was fully grown but still made baby noises of affection with the handler. It was so sweet to see. Thank you for sharing!
  22. I've been reading all the info on here due to the hurricane. I live in Staten Island, New York, about two miles from the coast. I am sitting here trying desperately to think of what to do for my birds. I have five gallons set aside for them, and I have enough food for both, but what if my house gets torn up? I have two carriers, but neither are very big. I feel completely under-prepared and overwhelmed. There are shelters set up in different areas for people to take their animals during the hurricane, but they closed public transportation at noon and I don't drive! Sorry, I'm not asking for advice or anything, I'm just sort of freaked out and needed to vent. I feel like an awful birdie mommy.
  23. Would you maybe take donations? I'm willing to donate some money for you to rescue this poor bird.
  24. I don't know what the more experienced owners here do (Hi to another young professional! I'm 20 with two fids, working two part time jobs and going to class full time..I know how it is with the pets!) but when I have my birds out, I follow them around with one of those plastic boxes of unscented, non-alcoholic baby wipes. Every time one of them poops, I pick ip up and wipe the spot with the baby wipe, and throw it out.
  25. The same thing happened to me! I mean, I knew their were birds around me, but I never really noticed them until I got fids. Now I find myself watching them constantly whenever I'm outside!
