  1. Ah, sorry! I just assumed because of the office/business room. From what I've read, CAGs are pretty good for a few hours on their own. I personally leave cartoons on for my fids meant for toddlers. I don't know if they really ever watch, but I like to think some of the simpler ideas penetrate.
  2. Hello Sam! I, too started working in pet stores when I was in high school. I'm now in college with a loving little cockatiel like yours, and a Senegal parrot that bites anyone that isn't me. I want to commend you on doing a re-home. It's a long, hard process, but in the end it will pay off! From what I gather, you and your wife both work from home? That's the absolute best situation for bird parentage!
  3. I am so sorry about Cody. Cody was the very first TAG I ever met. He was so sweet as a baby. Hopefully some day down the line you are able to bring another parrot into your life, although I am sure none will replace that special bond you and Cody had.
  4. Wait, this story was posted on Craigslist? I'd be hesitant, as someone who studies marketing for a living, that this was a bit of creative advertising.
  5. When you do get the Grey, are you going to travel the one hour to the avian vet?
  6. Love the pictures! This might sound really weird, but your wall color is amazing!
  7. That was the sweetest thing I've ever seen!
  8. And thunder thighs. As a vegan I usually stick to soy/almond/rice milk. EDIT: What i meant to say was that it might be too fatty for a bird to have in large amounts, as coconut milk has a lot of fat. I should have elaborated more.
  9. I hate debating politics over the internet, but I will say that I like to think animal lovers are more intelligent than other people. Uh, not that has anything to do with party affiliation or anything...:o
  10. Thanks! I'll try and upload some videos from my phone to youtube so I can post them here. If Shelby is my brainy nerd, then Jon is my class clown for sure!
  11. The wonderful thing about Greys, and other parrots, is that like children, they have their own, unique personalities. (run on sentence? ouch...) Gracie may be independent, but that just shows her strong character. Maybe in the long run if you need to go overnight somewhere, she won't worry too much, or when you're busy with work, she won't nag and nag. I'm sure that she will still want the cuddles and the wubs though...you just need to give her time. That woman that grabbed Gracie and made her stay on her hand while she forced her to submit to being pet is the same sort of woman that makes their kids diet at three years old! They think that just because society says baby birds love to be cuddled, that every bird needs to be cuddled. If you understand that your Gracie has an unique personality, then you will be an amazing parent!
  12. Oh I don't care if he talks or not, I was just mentioning it. It's so nice to see that there's nothing wrong, and he's just being a little clown!
  13. Why are you getting impatient, exactly? Are you worried something is wrong?
  14. Oh dear god that was scary...but cool! Your eyes match!
  15. Jon is a very, very weird bird. He loves to lay on his back. Not just in my hand when I flip him over, oh no, he loves to lay on his back while playing, too. He will often lay on a pillow on his back and doze off. Anywhoo, recently I've noticed that if he is in the cage he will go to the bottom, where the grate is, flip onto his back, and use one talon to pull himself along the bottom of his cage on his back (the talon pushing him off from the side of the cage). Is he scratching his back? Is this some sort of weird Senegal behavior? Or is my Jon just a loopy sort of bird... At his current age, he doesn't make a peep, not even a chirp. He lets me know when he wants something, but always silently. (If I'm supposed to be using lie instead of lay, I apologize....tis the life of a person who grew up with grammar check...)
  16. All the points raised are valid! Another one I might like to add is that a bird needs to exercise their feet, and having a cage with lots of different types of perches allows them to move around. Having one type of perch must hurt after a while! Macaws are very, very smart birds. The smarter a creature is, the more curious they are going to be! "This wall is blue, what happens when I bite into it?" "the carpet looks fun to pull!" "oooh, what is that VERY EXPENSIVE shiny thing sitting on the table?" They can chew wires, get into the knife drawer...heck; even my caged birds manage to get into trouble!
  17. Well, from what I saw they had 4-5 in a cage, and they weren't very friendly (hid in corners, etc). The feathers were very colorful, and were very striking. I've never really seen an ekkie up close, so I'm not sure what you're asking about the feathers.
  18. I wish you the best of luck finding Buddy a good home. Do you have any pictures? I'm sure his cute face will help find him a loving home.
  19. I'd have to agree! One day a dog wandered up onto our stoop, and the first thing my family did was check him for a microchip at the vet. If a parrot ever wandered into my yard, that would be what I would do.
  20. So, I called the store because I felt bad about my answer, and they said that they are "625 but hard to come by". I guess they put out their best birds when thousands of people are coming to their event? You know, instead of finding the right person.... anyway, I digress.
  21. Hm...well...they were the small bird room, and the price was either 600 or 6000...or maybe 60000....It started with a 6, okay!:confused:
  22. I saw several of these at Parrot Palooza at the start of the month. My boyfriend really wanted one!
  23. Welcome! Always nice to see a fellow college student/bird lover!
  24. Have you considered a corner cage? That's what I'm getting as nyc apartments are very small! They are fairly large but don't take up much wall space
