  1. I've been doing that with Jon! He perches on my finger while I bounce him up and down and he flaps his wings, and sometimes I catch him on holding onto his perch in his cage tightly while he flaps his wings rapidly. Still though, not one bit of flight! I guess what I'm asking is, is it possible for a bird to never fly, or is it too ingrained in them?
  2. Tabletop roleplaying certainly isn't "in the loop" so don't worry about that! It's a very nerdy activity that's basically like...improv with math. The chess piece ice cube tray is from my favorite website to send all my money to, thinkgeek.com
  3. Jon was clipped when I got him, and now that it has been quite a few months, his flights have nearly fully grown in. I've been trying to get him to fly, but he won't! I've been placing him on the bed above the carpet (so if/when he falls he doesn't hurt himself) and I kneel at the level of the bed so all he has to do is fly a few feet from the bed to me, but every time he tries he just trashes his wings and falls to the ground. Is this something I should be worried about? Are there birds that have never learned to fly?
  4. I went to parrrot palooza at birds of paradise in Burlington, NJ this past year with my boyfriend. While I enjoyed the activities and the cheap toys, and especially the talk from everyones favorite Dr. Pepperburg, I didn't really enjoy the mass amount of birds for sale and people clamoring to hold them. I feel like they could have handled it better.
  5. Hello all! As some of you know from my other thread, I am finally moving out in a few weeks, and I can't wait to set up my very own kitchen! Tell me all about your favorite bird friendly or just plain awesome kitchen supplies! Right now I'm collecting ice cube trays. I plan on entertaining a lot, since I do tabletop roleplaying as a hobby, so I've bought some fun ice cube trays:
  6. It's a very honorable thing that you're not looking for damages! Best of luck to both of you, I really hope he pulls through!

    Five Facts

    1. I'm 20, but I've been an adult ever since I was a child due to family issues and illness. 2. There has never been a time in my life where I have not had some sort of companion animal. 3. I am completing my Bachelors in three years instead of four by taking 21 credits at a time, and summer/winter classes, while working full time to support my companion animals. I graduate in May. 4. I'm a vegan, but I'm not in your face about it, and, in fact, I am dating a big meat eater. 5. I like to think I'm a writer. I've done content writing for several Facebook games and cell phone games, and I'm currently writing a novel.
  8. Yup! I'm pretty excited. The lawyer is waiting until after the 1st of the month to send her the letter. It looks like I'll finally be getting my grey!
  9. That's the great thing about animals. They understand emotions way better than simple humans do!
  10. Great video! Your CAG is very well behaved, and I can't wait to try your recipe!
  11. I hope Barnaby gets better! Is there any chance you can call an animal rights group on his previous owners? They should be responsible for some of these vet bills that you have.
  12. Wingy, I have a muscular dystrophy called Myasthenia Gravis. I don't know how it will be with your baby, but every dog/bird/rat I've brought home so far has been more gentle with me than anyone else, because for some reason they can sense that something is wrong. For example, I'm only five foot, and Jon has a very large, very tall cage. I'll open it and then sit down if I am, at the time, unable to stand up to have him "step up". As soon as the door is open, and he sees me sitting, he will gently climb down to me and hop right into my lap. I'm not claiming that every animal automatically senses something is wrong, I'm just saying that this is my experience. I'm sure if you are gentle with your new baby, he/she will learn to be gentle and easy with you.
  13. I don't celebrate Christmas but I think I'll get some anyway! They are too cute!
  14. I just read through all nine pages of this thread, hoping to both learn about the situation and about rehabilitating birds in general. I clicked on the link to the blog and found it had been deleted. Does anyone know why this is?
  15. Good news! The lawyer has started the eviction process! It looks like I may be moving in as soon as February!
  16. I'm so sorry that you got him in that situation! Just a quick question...are you sure they were "fruity pebbles"? The fruity zupreem looks colorful (and is in fruit shapes) and it smells very sweet.
  17. I was just re-writing the next line of the Hamlet poem =]

    Budgies!

Thank you! He is a little bad birdie! He has only let me hold him once, and the rest of the time he screams at me, and when I let him roam free in the bathroom (safe enclosed space with no places to hide) he has fun, catches me staring, and is all "what choo lookin' at?!"
  19. What a cute story! Congratulations! Maybe he learned it in one shot!
  20. That was amazing! Now all you need to do is teach him to say "..is the word".
  21. Whether 'tis better in the home to corner The cage and CAG of forum member DawL, Or to set a regular cage against a wall in the home has brought up opposing views. (sorry I had to...) I am moving to a really tiny apartment, and I have already picked out a corner cage for my future CAG for this coming year. I feel like it would give the most room possible for the least amount of space.
  22. An hour isn't all that long of a time that your grey couldn't handle it. In fact; many birds enjoy going for rides with their companion humans! What's your concentration, by the way? I'm an Undergrad Corporate Communications major
