  1. Oh my gosh! Can we maybe put NSFW tags on posts like this? It's a very cute and funny joke, but I was not expecting that!
  2. I think an important thing to do first is to introduce your grey to all these noises. Let him get used to the sound of the filter.
  3. Aw! I bet something spooked him during the day and all he wanted was the comfort of his mommy! Congratulations!
  4. What a pretty bird! It must be amazing when the crest goes up.
  5. I did a few searches on the forum, and didn't find a topic about this, but please redirect me if there is one. Lets say a few years from now I want to adopt a child or even if I just have a young child over or something, how would a grey react? Is it dangerous to have them around children? How do people with young children and large parrots deal?
  6. What a cute baby boy! I love the name Grimm, personally.
  7. I suppose I'm not that well educated on the subject, but what does them having white toes have to do with it?

    Budgies!

Sontsa in a dark corner of his cage. I have so many birdie toys that when I picked him up I didn't buy any...I didn't realize that they were too big for him! I'm going this weekend to get him some more perches/toys.

    Budgies!

So, I'm a little curious on something. As I type this, I'm sitting on my bed attempting to do a seven page report for my COM 315 media analysis class. In front of me Shelby is in his cage screaming to come out, and Jon is in his doing somersaults on the floor (don't ask..I don't even know). Next to me on the floor is Sontsas cage. Sontsa supposedly is afraid of me, but he is sitting in the corner closest to me, staring at me. I'll turn to him and say "Hi Sontsa, pretty boy!" and he'll fly to the other side of the cage. I turn to type another line, look to Sontsa, and there he is, staring at me again. What is he doing? Is he interested in me? Or is that just his corner and he's wondering why the giant scary lady is sitting in it.

    Budgies!

I have yet to see him eat or drink (since Friday) but he has eaten the millet I put in his cage. Also, celery leaves? I don't think I've seen anything other than hearts sold.

    Budgies!

I had a hard time with it, too! My boyfriend is from Russia and wanted to name him. I don't know if this is entirely correct, but I've been calling him Sohnt-sah

    Budgies!

Hey guys! I'm having a hard time getting a cell phone pick, but I picked up Sontsa (Russian for sun) last weekend! He's really afraid of everything, but my cockatiel is in love with him.; He stands on Sontsa's cage and does heart wings and sings to him. I'm hoping they'll be friends. Here is a really bad pic in bad lighting. I'll try and take one in the morning. He's an English budgie with the regular wild colors and blue cheeks!
  13. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help! I only work part time but I'm sure I can help out in some way. Please PM me.
  14. You didn't fail! Things come up in life, and whatever mood changes you're experiencing is normal for a grey. Also, the "no liking water" thing is normal in a lot of birds. Some birds like water, some don't...it's not a species thing either, it's a bird by bird basis. By the way, it's so cool you live in Israel! I'm 1/8th Israeli myself.

    Budgies!

Blueberry is so cute! The one I'm getting is yellow and green, supposedly.

    Budgies!

I have read that English budgies don't live as long as American, and my thought was to get an American, but the owner of the aviary said that the English was a lot sweeter, and more easy to hold. I'm not worried about cuddling or anything, I just want to be able to give him/her lots of time outside the cage to fly around.

    Budgies!

So This Friday I am going to pick up an English budgie from Fancy Feathers aviary, my go-to place for birds! I'm so excited!
  18. What are the access doors like? My Senegal parrot does the exact same thing, and I've prevented it by distracting him, taking the bowl out, quickly closing the door, filling the bowl, distracting him to the other side of the cage again, and then quickly putting the bowl back in.
  19. That was so adorable! I loved seeing him fly around trying to grab it!

    Budgies!

Ah okay, I didn't realize. So they really don't like to be handled? What if I got one from a breeder?

    Budgies!

Thank you for all the advice, Dave! Actually, I don't think I am...let me see if I can find it... Generally, from a google search, it seems that it's a specific budgies bully cockatiels thing.

    Budgies!

I never really considered getting a budgie. When I worked in a Petland Discounts as a teenager, all the parents would get their kids a budgie, a hamster, or a hermit crab. Those were kids pets, not pets for awesome, cool teenagers. Now that I'm not such an ass, I've been looking for a little bird that wasn't another cockatiel, but that I could let Shelby interact with (Jon, my senegal, attacks anything that isn't me...tv remotes, cell phones, etc). I've read that budgies can be bullies to cockatiels, but also that they can get along well. Where I am now, I don't have the room for the large African Grey cage (although from what I hear, I may be moving in February now, fingers crossed!) but I certainly have room for a budgie. Does anyone here have a budgie? What do you feed him/her? What sort of cage do you have? I know the cages they sell for budgies probably aren't large enough, but would he/she need a cage as large as a cockatiel?
  23. That's so sweet! I wish I had a mom like you growing up. It is so important to instill a love of all creatures in your children.
  24. Hyacinths are at least five or six years down the road for me I think. If my boyfriend gets to build his ten thousand dollar computer, I get to buy a ten thousand dollar bird! haha! Seriously though, when you do get him/her please post oh so many pictures.
