  8. The bird is still very young and therefore you should have a better chance of turning things around. It will take time , love and patience but it can be done. I just rescued a 7 year old bird that lived under a blanket all day she cage was never uncover to keep her quite, she was scared of the dogs. She now gets out on the play stand talks up storm and just yesterday flew down almost right on top of my sleeping dog and just stepped over her legs and in passing said"Hello Boo" my dog's name is Maggie but that's OK she can call her Boo...LOL...Please think about getting that bird out of that horrible environment he WILL have baggage but there is not a better feeling in the world than to know you have saved him from a life of what sounds like hell.
  9. Questions is a game which is played by asking questions. Play begins when the first player serves by asking a question (often "Would you like to play questions?"). The second player must respond to the question with another question (e.g. "How do you play that?").
  10. So glad you have your Baby back, I have always wanted a bare-eyed cockatoo but I really am at my limit, of course should a hyacinth macaw should ever come my way I would jump at the chance...LOL
  11. Thanks Kimkim, she is really special, I am so glad I got her, the last thing I needed was another bird but She is such a perfect fit.
  12. I posted a few weeks back before picking up Sadie (my rescue) that she had to live under a blanket due to two pit bulls that caused Sadie to scream all of the time. Well the covering the cage is history now only at night and the other day she flew down from her play stand and I have a huge bloodhound that thinks she is a little house dog that was sleeping on the floor right where Sadie happen to land. Well Sadie steps over Maggie's leg that was in her way and as she was passing said "Hello Boo" It was a sight to see I don't know who in the world Boo is but I am guessing it must have been the name of one of the dogs from her past, she has come along so fast it is amazing I am so happy her fear of the dogs have been laid to rest. Sadie is more than adorable but then I might be a little bias.
  13. My Grey of 17 years loved ONLY my husband she has his voice would crawl into bed with him and take naps with him on his pillow next to his head and now for some reason she Hates him, she will attack him if he get too close to the cage and I mean she draws blood big time. She tells me she loves me all of the time gives me kisses and is totally my bird.......WHY?......Who knows. I can tell you, you can't except things to change overnight it will take time. Go to http://www.goodbirdinc.com and sign up for the on-line magazine, there are DVDs and lots of good training available there. Talk softly and go very slow with the bird give him time to adjust. There is also alot of very good advice right here on the forum, don't give up just yet you may be passing up an opportunity to have a great relationship with this little guy.
  14. Maggie, thank you so much for letting us know I have been praying for you both, Can't wait to see a post from Jay you both are greatly missed! Hugs, Karen
  15. All my birds love cheese so do the dogs as soon as they see the package they all start begging like judygram said, but I do go easy on it.
  16. It is exciting, my Sadie started talking the first day we got her but now we are hearing things we can't make out like she is whispering it.She is also calling for Boo, which in a way makes me sad she must have loved Boo or at the very least misses Boo. We also thought we were her 4th home but actually found out we are her 5th and she is only 6 or 7 years old. That puzzles me the most she is a sweetheart so cuddly and lovable and not a picky eater(except for the palm oil) LOL So happy for you and Timmy!!!
  17. They are as cute as can be!!! I just love to sew or maybe I should say quilt and I have always been going to make sewing machine covers, but look at you!!Bird cage covers, WOW!!! Great Job!

  20. Sent pictures when you get Besty home....LOL...
  21. Love it thanks for sharing, my conure will lay on his back while in your hand but he is the only one. They say the bird must have tons of trust in you for them to to do that, Great job!!
  22. Happy birthday!!! I love the name, miss hannah make it a fun one.
  23. I am so glad we have this section for other birds because they are just as wonderful, I had a horrible day at work and brought it home with me last night and was crying in the front room, when I hear my little Shorty calling from his cage step up, so I went and got him out and I have never seen him so calm and lovable I assure you he knew I was upset. He gave me tons of kisses and snuggled up against my chest and said "peekaboo I love you" over and over. I noticed after awhile he was nodding off to sleep so I put him back in his cage feeling much better. My Hubby who isn't much of a bird person but knows I love them, so he tolerates them commented as we were going to bed "Never thought I would see the day a pea sized bird can comfort my wife better than I can....LOL Guess he just needs to learn how to say "peekaboo I love you"
  24. So very sorry, don't give up hope he may be home before you know it, PRAYING !
