  1. I also watched Tui's you tube clips as well he lost Tui to free flight and has after a couple of years decided to get another grey.
  2. Welcome, I too am new here and can tell you first hand these are the nicest and most knowledgable group of people you could ever hope to meet. I also have a just weaned baby tag (kenya) and I have a 17 year old cag (gabby) along with a zon and a conure. We are very happy together, My poor cag has been with me since she was a baby and I made all of my new parront mistakes on her, bless her sweet heart but she loves me still and somehow we have survived. Once again welcome so glad you are here. Karen
  3. Bless your heart, praying for all involved this kind of stuff is so hard. Karen

    My confusion

Not to sound rude but I have to say I totally disagree with the play shirt idea how is he going to know the differents between the play shirt and your Sunday best. Instead offer him a small foot toy to play with when he goes for the buttons. That way he will learn not to play with buttons but toys. I personally never let my bigger birds on my shoulder I have seen too many mishaps and they weren't pretty. Just my opinion, Karen
  5. I think they only work for a short time. Karen
  6. Offer him a nut or when you figure it out his favorite treat as a reward for stepping up. Karen
  7. This morning I fed Angel for Barb, she had the early shift, and there was no screaming and thrashing around the cage when I came in the room. Angel did climb up and hang on the side of the cage in the far corner, but that's ok he didn't thrash around if he keeps that up we might be able to take the foam out soon. I was so happy to see this. Karen
  8. I use news paper, but the silicone mats sounds like an idea...LOL
  9. So happy for you!! I can't wait until my friend reaches that stage with her rescue. Great Job!!
  10. Can you buy the wrong kind of full spectrum lights to put on your birds or are they all the same? Also what watt is the best? Thanks guys, Karen
  11. A. Deprive an animal of necessary sustenance, food or drink, or neglect or refuse to furnish it such sustenance or drink; B. Cause, procure or allow an animal to be overdriven, overloaded, tortured, cruelly beaten, or unjustifiably injured, maimed, mutilated or killed, or to be deprived of necessary food or drink; This is the only thing we could have charged that idiot with which none are being charged of course he lied about the drugs and we can't prove it at this point. Too bad about the animal cruelty charges but we did do a CPS report (Child Protective Services) for other things going on in home.If Barbara has anything to do with it she's not going to stop until he recieves something. Angel allows us to look at him without growling and screaming and thrashing around but we have to be on the other side of the room. He did eat a little last night as well. Karen
  12. The vet said DMG brought an Amazon back from a fatty liver disorder to a healthy liver. A bird named Lola, Amazon, she was treating was given no chance to survive is still going strong two years later all test showing healthy liver.
  13. Heard back from vet she feels trying to bring him in right now would prove to be too stressful, We are going to drop off some fecal to be tested talk of sending out a tech to draw blood as well but in a few days, we are also picking up something called DMG, she spoke also about trying some holistic care remedies, but mainly allowing the bird a chance to try and calm down first and changing his diet we found out he has been eating top ramen, chips, coke, taco bell, crackers, junk food in other words. We lowered the perch in the cage without causeing too much panic, although I don't think he has ate much of anything today so I ran some harrison pellets thru the food processor and turn them to powder and sprinkled as much as I could on some pasta since he does eat top ramen, we also moved him to an extra bedroom and talk softly and calmly from across the room and it seems to help, and gave him the tea that Jayd suggested. He truly is heart breaking, I hope they throw the book at the jerk who did this to such a wonderful creature. Oh I forgot to mention they had named the bird "Asshole" We now call him/her "Angel"
  14. Barbara (my friend) isn't home from work yet, but I do have a call in to the vet's to see if she can help in some way, thank you for the suggestion. I am taking notes from all of your responses to help Barb with, as far a a true bird rescue I will check into that as well. So sad to hear the bird will never truly recover I was in hopes it would. I will keep you posted, Karen
  15. I work in a drug and alcohol rehab facility and we hear all types of horror stories, but this one hits close to home having two greys myself. A co worker went to buy a bird we had heard about that was being sold from a known crack head the bird was a grey and the owner thought it was funny and entertaining to give drugs to the bird and then sit back and watch his reaction, we have filed police reports and other reports as well but the bird is in need of a lot of help. To be honest my friend can't afford a vet visit until after her next pay period but in the meantime the bird is thrashing around in the cage until his wings are bleeding she placed foam on the bottom of the cage and placed newspaper on top to help cushion the falls. The poor bird is terrified of humans she has no experience with birds just wanted to remove him from the home he was in, I have been trying to help her all I can but I could use some help in helping her. Is there something she could give the bird to maybe clean the toxins from his system? Any and all advice is needed. Thanks, Karen

  18. So sorry, Bless your Dad's sweet heart losing a pet is so very hard we just went thru the same thing ourselves losing a little bourke parakeet after 7 years woke up to find him on the bottom of his cage, Gabby my Grey ask for awhile where Little Bird is,and now she tells us that Little Bird has gone bye bye. I think she misses him too. We recently got a new baby TAG and Lucy my YNA called out "Hi Little Bird" To which Gabby (CAG) replied "No Little Bird gone bye bye" Lucy then said "OH" It was truly an amazing conversation that my husband and I marveled at and are still amazed at how very smart the birds are and know exactly what's going on. I pray your Dad's heart heals soon. Karen
  19. Sounds like you are going to great! Welcome to the forum. Karen
  20. I hope stupid question are allow because here goes one. I tasted the sprouts that my birds are refusing to eat and they were bitter and I don't blame them for not eating them BUT I thought birds didn't really have tastebuds per say that is why they can eat hot peppers and things am I wrong can they taste bitterness and things as we do?
