  1. Pookie came to live with us at 21 years old as a non flighted bird. She only flew like a rock, straight down. She needed to learn flight as that would keep her safer if she fell avoiding those crash landings on our tile floors. I did the same thing in our bedroom standing about a foot away from the bed than launching her off my wrist a little upwards in trajectory. At first she was just flapping to balance her landings then as she got stronger she could levitate a bit and land softly. She advanced to being launched from a few feet to across the room and she was so exuberant as she gained control. I think flight is a confidence builder for parrots. Now she can fly like a jet with tight turns and pinpoint landings but often just climbs around her in/on the cages and the furniture. Since we have multiple birds I think it is also a safety issue so escaping from a bully is easy.
  2. They are both just adorable, good stuff. Hope you get to move the gang into a larger place soon.
  3. She says stupid human I want my head rubs not a hat, one has to accept that their training has not taken well.
  4. Yes that is Conure attitude for sure!!
  5. Great project Sterling, clever mind.
  6. You might want to spend a little time with her before choosing a name that will fit her personality. Glad to welcome you here.
  7. That is it Acappella, Grey trust can be hard to earn but from that hard earned step they just leap forward.
  8. I need to catch up on the new info. thank you!
  9. When our kids were young the house behind us was deserted and the backyard pool became a swamp heavy with thick floating algae. A bullfrog moved in and sang every night and our son was disturbed and a bit frightened of the sound as his bedroom faced the "swamp". Some one gave a us a big soft frog toy and we put it on his bed to protect him-somehow that worked. A few years later people bought the house & renovated both house and pool. They had many parties back there. Meanwhile we have built a fishpond in our yard and yes we inherited the bullfrog. He was singing the frog song while they partied and in the morning we found cans, full cans of Budweiser in our back yard. There used to be a commercial on TV where the frogs made the bud-wei-ser with croaks I think that may have influenced the guests.
  10. That natural Sunlight will be a wonderful benefit for him. Good job!
  11. They appear to be broken off as the base of the feather is missing. Now as to whether he barbered them or they were broken during play is a bit iffy to guess. They will grow back and they appear to be tail feathers which are prone to damage when they take a fall or hit the side of the cage in enthusiastic play.
  12. I roast mine until they are squishy then peel & mix into birdy bread or use as a spread mixed with a little nut butter on Celery stalks sprinkled with red pepper flakes, or just mash and add to a grain bake or toss with pasta and chopped greens.
  13. They do love toddler toys, bright colors and fun sounds. Where did you find the bank? Very clever use for it.
  14. Only my Too's sound off in the morning, the greys are more likely to get loud and play hard just before lights out.
  15. Loved the books her writing made the visuals so real. Unable to view the series as we do not have cable or satellite connections, just what ever comes free over the airwaves.
  16. I have worked with several and we have some at the Sanctuary, they can be good mimics a very human sound to their voice. The females are often more aggressive and brightly colored as in the wild they stay with the nest and defend it from predators. the males are usually easier going and a lovely green base color with some blue touches as they go out and forage in the forest for greens fruit insects and fungi to feed mom and the chicks. Several males mate with the female and then support the family. Their feathers are more hairlike than most birds the thinking is that it helps to shed water in their tropical environment.
  17. Most sauces for spaghetti here in the States contains onion and garlic both considered toxins for birds as they contain sulfides which become disulfides inside the bird rupturing red blood cells, not good.
  18. A study in action/reaction that is a classic.
  19. So well written, good work and that is why we gather here support, sharing and finding others who are smitten with these feathered friends.
  20. She has come such a very long way what a journey you have all been on with G-girl. That string of pearls she has been putting together is getting some real length now she is becoming who she is meant to be one little furtive step up at a time.
  21. Gouldians, very nice I love the assortment of colors they can be and those sweet little chirpy sounds. Love that acrylic seed hanger as well very stylish.
