  1. Once they are frozen it masks most of the scent. No matter they are tiny or large these feathered wonders take a piece of our heart with them.
  2. He has sweet expression in those eyes, the red feather may be from a follicle damaged by plucking. My Pookie bird has those kind of red feathers too.
  3. I don't know who was braver, you or R:)ico. Congrats on his safe return.
  4. She could be low on calcium and vitamin D3 that leads to clumsy birds. Or it could be she has just now had enough different size perches available to develop her muscular control. Whisper my big Silvery Grey girl is also a bat bird, sometimes sleeps that way.
  5. I have one that is a silver color like that one, she is a larger than average bird and very sweet to me. Some folks call them Cameroon Greys referring to the local they were originally caught in. It looks like this one needs some toys, perches and a cage much larger and time to change the paper. Will try for a good photo when lighting is better.
  6. Yes BP I am aware of all those factors these guys do not seem to be a mated pair they mostly ignore each other they are sharing a Macaw size cage here at our home but shared a smaller cage before they ended up here (temporary guests that have been here over a year now). they were already plucked prior to arrival and they have improved somewhat during their stay. Aloe baths could be more frequent as that seems to help the most, but it is cool by the big windows so limited until it warms up a bit. Cage is stuffed with things to shred, chew, climb and take apart and I have improved their diet as well they were big pellet birds, now fresher stuff for them. They are eventually going back to the "owner" so I can only do so much. Have had several pluckers and a mutilator or two through here so am always looking for new information on diet and behaviors. Right now we have a Cockatiel and a Senegal in the guest bathroom during their recovery from in the Tiel a wingectomy due to bone cancer and the Senegal manged to get a severe burn from a heat lamp after recovering from a beat down from his flock. Happy to tell you they are both doing very well, never a dull moment here.
  7. Great color and he looks happy and mischievous:p Too.
  8. Interesting thread will look for more comments and follow this one. I am caring for 2 Greys that are both heavily plucked-belly, legs, shoulders and the male has the top of head tonsure plucked. they came to me this way and the male has never been given any petting other than the top of his head and only at his invite as he is aggressive and bites not allowing that contact. He will only step up on a stick or perch but his room mate loves attention and again has only received head scratches which she solicits frequently.
  9. Find a perch and join in with questions ideas, stories or photos.
  10. Neither the Cedar or the zinc coated metal are bird safe.
  11. Funny what they choose to pick up and copy, enjoyed the humor!
  12. Great to hear from Oz and so nice to have you join us.
  13. Or a dog or a cat or anything that might be dependent on their efforts. Happily they did end up in your care and have a happier busier life now.
  14. Will be looking for your new posts when Grey Bird enters your life, I know you can offer him a new start and a happy life.
  15. They often chew on twigs and branches in the wild it is a very natural behavior and chewing alone will not cause nesty behavior. Providing a dark box area might encourage that train of thought. All of our flock enjoy deconstructing cardboard, pinecones and paperback novels.
  16. One step up forward and only one back, still a win.
  17. V-star is very smart about considering the prey drive of the dogs in your home. A very good dog can suddenly react to movement with aggression. We have 2 dogs, some cats and several birds here and they mostly ignore each other. Sophie who is only 20ish pounds and Widget who seems to be a Chihuahua/chupicabra cross at only 9 pounds are both pretty good about not reacting to the birds unless they fly to the floor. Our smallest grey is a Timneh who is also our most aggressive bird he will attack the dogs or cats who may just be napping or sitting quietly so we have to watch him very closely to avoid any retribution. Always supervise any time when they are both loose, always as it only takes an instant to end a life.
  18. Welcome and after living with the dynamic demanding Conures I think you might just enjoy the more civilized Grey life style. I live with 2 budgies as well they are too cute!
  19. Purely circumstantial evidence, call my lawyer please.
  20. For the Goffin you might try some largish beads, they love to roll them down their backs and catch them under their wings. They do enjoy taking things apart as well. Great start with them all and will be awaiting the results from Jojo's vet visit.
  21. Bongo likes the woman warrior type if he is pursuing Mary Ann. What a great outcome who knew that expaning your flock would lead to his expanding his comfort zone. Nice!
  22. She has that spunky look about her, appreciate your sharing her with us all. Too Cute!
