Instuctions/plans for PVC play stand
JJsHoney replied to PrettyPax's topic in Homemade Toys & Playstands
Cpvc is the "water" pvc correct? when I was at the home store, I noticed a tan color pvc right next to the white pvc and the clerk said it was water line pvc for the house, I ended up purchasing that because that had the correct size that I was looking for, but I did notice the white caps wouldnt fit on the tan and vice versa... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chlorinated_polyvinyl_chloride So I guess you could call it a happy accident that I bought that kind instead even though Rene wont go anywhere near the stand or ladder lol -
As most know, I rehomed Rene a few weeks ago. He and James my boyfriend are not hitting it off at all, James has to put it bluntly been an a$$ about Rene, and now he keeps telling me he thinks taking Rene is a bad idea and it wouldn't be this way if we had the baby we were supposed to blah blah blah.. And to be totally honest I had these fears before Rene came to us too.. Last year when Akima was still alive, I was 100% happy with my decision to own a grey to watch it grow etc. to have a grey that wasn't just eye candy so to speak, I know our relationship is still litterally brand new and I/we are rushing, but I think we just really miss our baby and Rene was supposed to fill that gap and were looking for instant gratification which isn't fair to Rene or us.. I fell instantly in love with Rene bites and all, but the doubts that James puts in my head are hard to ignore and "baby fever" is even harder So now I am left being 100% responsible for him as James has basically made it clear he will have nothing to do with him but I think I prefer it that way I wouldn't have to go back and make sure the birds were fed or clean now I know it was done right the first time LoL. Thanks for listening, I just needed to get my feelings or what I have time to type out of my head and somewhere else

Thanks Dave, My cousin had too mentioned Essential Gold, but I was trying to go the "cheaper" root  I placed an order for the 36oz. Concentrate Just to see how long it lasts, I have a few birds smaller cages etc. that are in need of a good cleaning. Your babies are adrorable! I keep peeking into the nursery cam, I just missed a feeding last night thanks soo much for having a view into their lives that most people don't get to see.

I had to send this article to a friend who recently bought a few cockatiels, she put them in with her Goffin Too, they are about the same size as as a Galah Too. I told her its time for a little birdy birth control LOL, take the tiels out!!! Im sure the chances of something like that happening are not huge but why take chances?

I have the same issue with Rene I am still trying to get him to like me so giving him a proper bath is still a no no, I have a misting bottle that I use on the other birds tried it on Rene he went nutty!! so I went to the home center and bought a plant mister, the kind that you pump, it has a long hose and I can keep the scary bottle far away from the cage so he gets damp it helps with the dust, also I cleaned the bottle and hose many times I was being alittle paranoid but I wasn't sure how safe it was until I had it sitting in a bath of vinegar lol

LoL somehow this has turned to quaker chat lol OOPPSS soorry!! Someone here I believe it was JayD gave them a perfect nickname *Evil Green Chicken* and Bazil most definetly fits the bill on that one!! he is cage aggressive but a total love bug once away from his area, I tried in vain to get him to talk so all he says is "what?" but back to the Grey side, I get soo excited when something new pops out of Rene's mouth he tells all my cousins secrets lol...
-
Bazil (my quaker) was doing laps around his cage searching.. he even stopped and checked inside his empty tissue box (which is his very favorite toy ever!!) he was also screaming his foolish head off!! and I think Rene answers because the house he came from had a bunch of greys and they all communicated so I think it reminds him of home...

Rene is just about 3 years old and was gifted to my cousins wife when he was about 4 weeks old, this is nothing new for them my cousin is a breeder, and his wife had helped in feedings etc. but never raised a bird of "her own" She immediately noticed something Little off with the baby she was having trouble filling the crop and he just kind of seemed lifeless, my cousin took over feedings but nothing really changed, he was vet checked, and it was said that his crop fills and empties correctly nothing wrong that he could find. well days turned to weeks and Rene continued growing putting on weight just as he should growing feathers but still acted different, he wouldn't try to perch, he was just content on the bottom of his "baby cage" My cousins wife slowly became more distant she wanted a large light Grey, and Rene is dark with very pretty white tips on the ends of his feathers, (they are separating and the family is happy with that decision) so that was when my cousin took over as main care taker, Rene is also a very messy Grey he never manages to keep his poop in his cage, it is always on the floor or all over the bars of his cage on toys etc. (which leaves me forever cleaning) So he was placed into the kids TV room far far away from my cousins other 'cleaner birds" now don't get me wrong there was plenty of activity in there, he had "roommates" and was in love with my cousins pionus Sp? when Rene was finally weaned (he just decided he wouldn't accept formula anymore) he was moved to his big boy cage and still continued to sit at the bottom, so they purchased a corner shelf for him and then that became his only spot to hang out, and that continued for maybe 6 months after his placement in that cage, he slowly started trying new perches swings etc. but still favored the corner shelf (a side note I have to same shelf in this cage and he has maybe sat on it 2 times since he has come here and it was just a quick "poo" spot then he was off to eat again.) So thats about what I know about him, and I am also want to say my cousin was great at what he did, he had many many birds and he tried to find some time for all but due to him moving out most had to be sold or placed until he finds a living arrangement more permanent. He would rescue if he could and seek now homes for the lost bird .

Thank you Dan and JungleDreamz again for great advice, and to answer your questions, He was owned by my cousins family he was given to my cousins wife but they never really hit it off and my cousin (male) was his main care taker. He wasn't fed as much fruits and veggies as I would like but atleast he ate some, and would eat palm oil on his seeds (which he won't touch) atleast 1-2 times a week, as far as aggression, he gave them the typical "teenage attitude" but nothing like with James and I. He wasn't interacted as much as he is here, he was in a multi-bird home and trying to spare time for them all proved to be difficult. Rene gets more aggressive if I leave him in to long so he has been coming out with me and spending basically most of the whole day out, he goes in to eat or take a nap but on his time. And I am trying to build as much trust with him as I can, I used a perch to get him off the top of his cage and that is was spooked him, he was never tought to step on perches just hands. I think I am going to write a quick post on Rene's past my cousin is a breeder of birds and he told me he never had a baby quit like Rene

Rene looved this video, when she said "hi Baby" he responded "hello" every time you said it he would say hello too! my quaker is now going crazy searching for the "other quaker" in the house lol... Thanks for sharing

Thanks, Jungledreamz, Rene is 3 years old and I have had him here almost a month, we are still learning each others temperment Maggie, Rene gets a mixture of 3 different pellets zupreem fruit blend, Zupreem natural diet, and pretty bird daily select he also get a half a bowl of sun seed vita plus seeds (that lasts him about 2 days) plus plenty of water. The poop color just seems wierd to me, yesterday it was that rusty color, and today it is greeny again and I'm willing to bet tommorow it won't be. And also I tried petting him when he did it and it was just a "sucker punch" the first time but the second it was an invitation for a rub YAY!!! these are the pictures of his foods, this is what he was being fed in his old home and doing fine with it, but I just worry because now he is no longer excepting fruits and veggies, warm or cold I cant figure out any other tricks thanks again Bonnie

I am having some issues with Rene so I thought that I would give a quick update and post some questions too.. Rene is fitting in well I moved him out of my "bird room" to my living room so that he could be around everyone in the house more often. Hoping that his aggression with James would start to subside, but I'm afraid it isn't so, James is put off by it so things are at a stop with them I also still can't even think about getting him to step-up from anywhere on or in his cage except for the wooden perch in the middle of his cage, when I try to ask he immediatly lowers his whole body so there is no access to his body that I wouldn't have to pass the beak first . He also has completely stopped eating fruits and veggies, when he first came home he would eat them but now when I walk to his cage with his bowl of them he backs away and will shake his head as if saying "no". I am feeding him exactly what he was getting in his other home so no diet change to speak of. He is very chatty, but he speaks more inside his cage then out, he whistles for me and says "c'mere" where ever I leave the room so I answer him and tell him I will be back in a minute and he usually stops calling. Another wierd thing he is terrified of my coffee cup, he freaks whenever I am sitting on the computer (which his cage is right next to) but only for me, I have a set of all the SAME mugs everyone else is allowed to drink a cup of coffee but me?!?! Also I am able to pet him on his head only when he is in the cage and only 1 finger fits so I can't really give him a good petting Just a few questions for everyone 1. His poop changes color daily, from his normal greenish to a rusty brown color, but there is no diet change from day to day should I be concerned? 2. How can I get him to start eating fruits and veggies again? 3. The other day he was shredding his boing inside his cage and a few pieces of string were under his tongue going across, I was horrified!! I am not allowed to touch him so my question is how would I go about getting something from his beak like that? Just take the bites or is there a way to handle him to get at it? 4. Like I mentioned I cant get him to step up all the time, especially when he is on the top of his cage, the other day it was time for work and I needed to put him away so I could leave (no one else was home) and he refused as usual so I had to spook him to get him to fly to the ground so I could pick him up and place him inside, I KNOW that is not the good way to do it, and I really don't like having to do it that way so any ideas? Thanks in advance.... Bonnie Oh I was hoping to post pictures but my camera refuses to upload and Rene refuses to stop hating it

HaHaHa Judy that's a funny one!!

I Don't know how much it can help as I already suggested it but on my cage for Rene I have the food doors that open like yours, we had to drill a hole into the doors to be able to put a cage lock on them so Rene will not escape, it takes me FOREVER just to feed him, but it prevents my dogs from trying to "play" with him and whatever other mischief he will/can get into. On a side note my camera is refusing to put pictures on my computer.. I really am trying to show you what I have done to keep him in..

I played FETCH the other day with a foot toy and Rene for about 30 minutes I stopped once he would toss the toy look at me bob his head and actually laugh at me I could just hear "stupid human!!!" going through his head!!! his laugh also sounds ALOT like Ernie from Sesame St!!!

What guests experience when entering our bird house
JJsHoney replied to Jayd's topic in The GREY Lounge
That was a wonderful tour of your home! It reminds me of the first time I babysat at my cousins house I was maybe around 13 and not to interested in the amount of birds that he had LoL, I was sitting in his living room the lights were off the kids were asleep upstairs, and I was quietly watching television, all of the sudden behind me came a whisper "hey...." "what are you doin???" I practically wet myself!!! ran turned the lights on to see a macaw sitting on the dining room table bobbing his head up and down... spinning in circles LOL.. His house was a very loud house during the day but I never expected it in the dark at night! and that was the night that I fell in love with parrots So hopefully one of your guests will be inspired the way I was...
