I just wanted to thank everyone for their warm wishes. I am still a blubbering mess, but we packed the cage today and put him in his final resting spot, I went to visit my in-laws today and just soaked up the birdy smell and feel it was alittle sureal.. but thank you again!

Tonight our little grey passed away, we got the call this evening to tell us that while playing around in the cage he fell from the top and broke his neck...We had just put him in the new cage Monday, Akima was 16 weeks old and 4 days and very full of life. We were fortunate enough to go up Monday to spend a few hours with our baby we got to see him fly and I was learning to finish hand feeding so we could take him home with us soon. He wasn't meant to come home in a make shift coffin, but in a carrier full of life and noise, but that is not how it worked, we brought him home finally but not to sit in his fully loaded cage which was set up with care or swing from the perches around the house, but instead he rests under a tree. This is the last video of him i took Monday to show how big and beautiful he had got in the last few weeks.. He will be very missed by his mom and dad. I thought I would give everyone an up date on the baby, we still do not know the sex, but should very soon, he/she will be 15 weeks on the 25th BUT is not showing any signs of weaning, so even though it is killing me lol I have to wait... He is also not gaining weight, not at all.. was put on the instant ounces but still nothing, vet said everything is fine, continue normally.. ( based on blood work) and he is very active, contantly crying as you can see in the other videos even if we stuff his face lol, enough it actually dribbles back out, crop empties fine. so I guess we get a tiny bird lol.. oh well... but to be honest no matter how big or small he/she will be worth the wait, and loved that much more when he is finally home!!!

I am forever asking ym cousin to feed him, but he or she was just fed about 2-3 hours before this vid, and was fed about an hour later usually around 1 in the afternoon is lunch and anywhere from 7-8 is supper, and i think breakfast is at 7 also, even when the baby is "overflowing" it still crys, all blood work came back great.. but LOL we forgot to check the little "sex" box!!!! sooooo we have to wait another week oh well, oh and also, the baby for the last week or so has not put on any weight so after confering with Vet he is back on Stage 1 food, and also "instant Ounces" to hopefully put him back in the normal range, because we all think he is WAY to small...

That makes a lot of sense to check that way, when I go up in a few days I will have to check, and I will even check on a bird I know the sex off already see if I can tell the diff. Thanks for the advice!

Just 2 random video's I took because the other one was soo dark. I also have a question, does anyone have any type guesses as to what sex my baby is, my cousins wife SWEARS it is a girl because it never shuts up always making some kind of noise and scratches at the bottom already, but my cousin says male, just because after spending so much time with it he feels thats what it is lol any one want to guess? you can hear the baby "clicking" and also bringing up some food from the crop, I got a handfull of it after the video stopped! <br><br>Post edited by: JJsHoney, at: 2009/07/31 19:39

ok I have been thinking, and by just comparing pictures and what some articles have said my boyfriend and i think that maybe our baby is around 8 1/2 weeks, I know that they grow at their own pace, but atleast in this age group he mostly fits in, even with the all the yelling he does, and the not so interest in solid food,

I didnt to my boings just because of the wire inside, and how long it would take the rope to dry i was afraid of molding, so i just moistened them with water and vinegar and let them dry in the sun

here is a previous post on the subject, not sure if it will help http://www.greyforums.net/forums/other-birds/97569-how-to-clean-toys.html and I used for all of my plastic toys hot water a scrub brush and a little vinegar, on my ropes and boings a steamer (in the winter) and in the summer i just moisten them and then hang them outside to the let sun do the rest!

My cousin is the one who is hand feeding for me, and he got the baby from his friend who he has a very good relationship with, he actually has the brother of my bird but he is 2 or 3 years old i think. and he is a big bird, there was some confusion when he first told me his hatch date, but I KNOW it was before my birthday, which is May 29th and that is a dif of 13 days, I went up to visit the second day he was at my cousins so maybe we are wrong by a week or so,and we kept saying "about" 2 weeks when talking about the baby But no matter what I won't take the baby (cant decide on a name still) adn I know he won't let me take the baby until he is positve that he has weaned, and he should be sending in the blood work this week so soon i will know boy or girl, and hopefully I can find out the right hatch day<br><br>Post edited by: JJsHoney, at: 2009/07/27 18:31

well actually I just got an email from my cousin telling me that while he was away for the weekend his daughter was handfeeding the baby and misread the directions left for her and the baby has lost about 25-30grams since he was last weighed.. He is going to be over feeding for the next few days to try to bring it back up, but as you can see the baby was full of energy yesterday and on the phone this morning he sounded the same lol.. I also just posted in the nursery.. some age concerns... ok I went to the store again this morning, and was actually able to speak with the owner and his wife, now at first they tried to to tell me that I do not know what I am talking about, but then after much insisting from to shut up and listen I actually took them around a tour of Their OWN store pointing out EVERY flaw lol.. it took a while, but I explained that things were not right friday when we went there and that no amount of sorrys will ever make me forget the neglect, so now they are promising to clean everything up and put toys, more than the ones I shoved in the cages, and a lager cage for the B&G and to get poor isaac out of the store, which now worries me because I dont want him put back in back room alone oops! So hopefully this goes well and they smarten up, but i PRomised to be back to make sure...

Congrats on your newest addition, I have always said I would rather have my hands full then empty and it seems I am not the only one! what i beautiful macaw and I hope harley gets a clean bill of health at the vets.. It is a wonderful thing you are doing!

I am starting to get concerned, after a few people telling me how small the baby is I started looking around finding many pictures of "10 weeks old greys" and mine looks NOTHING like that, more so I think it looks more like 8 weeks, but how could they be wrong? they told me he was hatched on May 16th so you do the math I also have pictures dated June 1st and up until now everything was looking ok or so i thought so I am going to give you a time line, and see what you guys think you all have been so much help before!!
