Slater's most favorite food is Edamame. He will do just about anything for them. Are they ok to give as food treat and how much is too much? I heard something about soy products not being good.

As it turned out it looked much better the next day. Thanks

Hi I try not to react except that this has been going on for some time and I'm sure the behavior is inbetted. I've instructed my family to ignore him when he starts. We'll comment to one another like OMG he's driving me crazy but not to him directly. I was using his same food bowl I put the oatmeal in his bowl instead of letting him eat from the soon.

Hi Slater will be 2 in May. Ok at least someone knows what I'm talking about and I'm not crazy. I try to ignore his chirp and wait for quiet times to address him. Sometimes it's really really hard as you probably know. Maybe someone can help.

Slater has this chirp he makes when he is trying to get my attention or he wants to go somewhere and can't (he's flighted but still thinks he can't fly) or when he is nervous. It's a single sharp chirp that is most nerve-wracking to me. If the chirping alone doesn't get him what he wants he starts flapping his wings in addition to the chirp. He's been doing more of this type of stuff lately. Yesterday morning I was making him breakfast. He seemed fine. I need to post pictures of him hanging upside down on his stand like a nut just before I served him his breakfast. I prepared him some oatmeal with some blue berries and some fresh veggies. I placed the dish on his stand and OMG he flew off and around the house like a bat out of hell. I think it was because I put the oatmeal in his dish and I don't normally do this. Everything else he is used to seeing in his dish. Now he is hesitant about going to that side of the stand. He's always made this chirp and I have been trying to ignore it. Seems like he has been overly nervous lately. I feel that whatever I do does not make him happy and I don't know what to do next. I am almost at my wits end with his chirp. I can handle the sometimes ear-piercing screetches, the continuous whistles, honks, gutteral sounds and various other noises from the both birds going at it all day long that doesn't bother me but this one chirp from Slater is most irritating. So could this be a hormonal thing and will it pass?

I got home last night and Slater hardly ate anything. I think he waits until I get home and I prepare his evening meal to eat. It also seems like he eats better some days than others. There are some days I swear it looks like he doesn't touch his food dish. I work full time and while I'm away I will leave him two types of pellets (Roudybush and Zupreem) along with dried pasta, dried fruits and veggies, nuts, etc. When I get home I give him fresh or frozen veggies with a mash and some pasta or rice. He really seems to enjoys his evening meal. I don't understand why he's not eating better in his cage while I'm at work. I would think that if he hadn't eaten all day he would eat a lot more in the evening when I get home since he seems to really look forward to his evening meal. For example, if I put a tablespoon full of mash some sweet potato, broccoli, hot pepper he may take a bite or two out of everything and that's all he'll eat. Anyone else have a similar situation that can shed some light on this matter? Thanks

Thanks. Chili my zon loves the water but doesn't seem inclined to bathe in his water bowl like Slater.
-
Do you have any idea why the sound of the vacuum makes them want to bathe? baffling.
-
I was vacuuming the birds area on Sunday. Whenever I vacuum the birds get all excited and start talking and carrying on. Slater likes to bathe. He thought a bath in his water bowl was appropriate. He hardly got wet but that's ok he was having a GREAT time. Here he is doing what he does best hanging upside down like a feathered bat-lol. He is sooooo silly sometimes. Enjoy!

Hi, I am attaching a couple of photos of Chili I took yesterday. Wanted to get your opinion on his beak. Is it normal for his beak to peel like it is doing (hope you can see)? Doing the same on the other side in the same area. Maybe he needs another sandy perch? Thanks

Hi rbpittman. Beautiful bird. I am amazaded how much he looks like my double yellow head Chili Pepper. Is the Panama and the DYH the same species? If not what will he look like as an adult.
-
Hi everyone, Someone posted a picture of their Panama under "show us your Amazon" thread and I thought for a second I was looking at my Chili Pepper. Can anyone tell me the differences between a double yellow head and a panama? Thanks

Luvparrots and talon, Chili is playful in his own way. It's a different kind of play from my grey. My grey will hang upside down by a toe as he beats his toys (very funny). I've come to the conclusion that Chili will probably never be the wild and crazy zon I hear about but that's ok. I love him just the way he is. He so enjoys just being in the same room as the rest of his human flock happily playing with a foot toy or chewing on his toys for hours. I love that he is not at all needy like my grey either and he just goes with the flow. I can take him anywhere and he is very cool. He is just beginning to talk. I wish I could understand everything that he says. One day he must have been feeling very confident in his talking ability because when someone came to our front door he started yelling "who's that" and "what". It was too funny, my husband and I just cracked up. He absolutely hates to be pet but I keep trying to get a skritch in here and there.

Hi, Took these pictures of Chili Pepper over the weekend. He is so photogenic isn't he. It appears that he is getting more yellow. You might be able to see in the head shot picture look near his lower beak.

I have a cat, an African Grey and a Double Yellow Head Amazon. My cat is afraid of the birds; however, I would not leave them along together antime. You just never know....

Thanks Is the sexual thing all year round and gets worse at certain times of the year?

Last night Slater about drove me crazy. When he wants something or wants to go somewhere and because he thinks he can't fly even though he can he has this most annoying chirp to get my attention. Most times I am able to ignore it and he eventually quits and a lot of times I try and figure out what it is he wants. Well last night I was getting very aggitated with his annoying chirp. I know I am supposed to ignore any unwanted behavior and this is very unwanted. Should I not be trying to figure out what he wants and let him continue to chirp until he figures out I'm not going to run at his every chirp? Seems like he wanted be pet but as soon as I started to pet him (head and neck only) he started to pump his neck, droop his wings and make funny noises. I said "no thank you and I love you too" and stopped petting him until he calmed down. Was curious if this has anything to do with the time of year? Thanks __________________

Does anyone take their birdies places? If so where?

I want to take Slater (CAG) to my cousins this weekend but he gets so darn nervous taken out of the house. Chili Pepper (Double Yellow Head Amazon) is so easy going I'll end up taking him instead.
