How would you liked to be picked up by your feet and some giant put there hand on the back of your neck and shove you behind bars?!!!Terrible twos my red feathers, we just want to stay up..[Oh well, I'll stop soon.] Spock Live long and Prosper [And please warm your hands before you manhandle me..]

While I contemplate my universe, I have observed a few funny things that humans, including my "Parronts" do that seem strange to me. They bring in things to hang on the wall and it has sticks on it (a clock and temperature gauge). When I want to play on it, they tell me "NO!". Why do they get things and put them out and then get upset when I do what any curious Grey would do? (Strange!) What is the point of accumulating things that you can't touch or play with? They put up some new curtains yesterday. I was unsure at first but decided to explore this strange new world. Guess what? It was fun!! :woohoo: I can stand on the long pole, walk around and watch everyone below, chew on the wood walls and wood beam on the ceiling and climb down to the community cage. Once there, I occasionally have to keep Salsa in her place and in line...after all, I AM the flock leader...The community cage (Joey's cage) is our general meeting area. Salsa, Joey and I all hang around together. I have also noticed that the seeds in Joey's dish are always better (I hear Jay telling Maggie that the seed mixes are all the same) Salsa likes to play with all Joey's toys in his cage and when she starts to yell while she hangs upside down by one foot on her playpen, I have to correct her. Joey always adds his two cents in (because he is older) and tells her "Bad Salsa" and makes clapping sounds.:pinch: Jay and Maggie have been feeding me a rare delicacy lately. It has a strange consistency that I am really not sure of but it comes in different yummy flavors, especially when they add peanut butter! Jay calls it oatmeal. It sure is a funny name for some good stuff! My favorite activity is to fly up and down the hall, through the living room (while I buzz all the cages and get those big white birds going) and into the kitchen where I do a quick 180 and fly back across the house. Sometimes, I come in for a landing on Jay's head (he says he has skid marks) and I stop myself by grabbing what little hair he has left (he seems to have less and less lately) and using it for a brake.  Well, I have to go...my "parront" wants the computer back...(I just get on and I have to give it back)... Jess, all birds are different, I've had good luck mixing birds. 1st question,Cage divider, no matter how well two birds get along they should be divided by at least 2", next if you cover them at night, do you cover them together? A interesting point,"Doe's a caged bird other than mates need their own space?". My choice would be to house them separate..We have Spock, 1yr old, and Joey our 2 1/2 yr old rescue grey. They tolerate each other, not friends but don't fight. Spock and Joey tolerate Salsa our amazon and even play a little. Our Too Fred preens Spock and ignores all other birds.Spock get's along with our Sun's, all the birds were introduced into Spock's world, he's flock leader... *Instead of taking Yoshi to another you need to bring the new bird to Yoshi!!*Yoshi is number 1.. If you get a Amazon, I'd get a fully weaned baby. Be prepared that they might never become friends but tolerate each other quite well... The 12yr old sounds good, but again, I'd go with separate cages..I love re-homes. Jay

Post edited by: Jayd, at: 2010/03/12 23:41

Our female 'Too, Tango, seems to be displaying strange and possibly hormonal behavior lately. The weather has been very humid because the days are getting warmer here in Arizona. She has always liked to move things around in her cage, her toys, her food which she will take out of one bowl and put in back and forth into others. Lately, when I pick her up, I have to be careful because she likes to rub herself on my hand. I do my cage cleaning earlier in the evening and each night before we go to bed, I always remove excess from the bottom of their cages, toys, food etc. that hasn't fallen through the bottom of their cages. Tango has a large rectangle pink food dish that she likes to put food, toys, wood, etc. in and out (I think she likes to hear the noise the toys make when she drops them in). Lately, before I get to Tango's cage, she has been picking up her own leftovers and toys and putting these items in this dish, pick it up, carry it to the door and throw it out. So, is she cleaning house, copying me or being hormonal? Maggie

 Hi, I decided that Jay and Spock get all the fun and I am going to put my two cents in for a change... Here's a "mash" recipe that's easy, cheap, good for them and all our fids love it. Ingredients: Yellow and green split peas, lentils, adzuki or mung beans (adzuki preferred), cinnamon, anise seed, basmati brown rice. Preparation: All these items are easy to cook, cook peas and lentils al dente. The rice has to be well-cooked. Blend all ingredients together and put into ice cube trays or flattened freezer bags and freeze. When you are ready to serve, take out a portion, add a pinch of anise seed and sprinkle with cinnamon, heat and serve at room temp to 105 degrees. Stage two: Now, you can also add lightly cooked carrots, any finely chopped veggies, cooked Orzo pasta, any other type of cooked pasta, ginger, molasses, a squeeze of fresh orange, mashed banana, apple or pear. The base will last up to six months in the freezer (:woohoo: Ours don't last that long). Maggie

Post edited by: Jayd, at: 2010/03/11 17:28

Spock here,Suggestion, It sounds like Paco has a good diet, [Pretty Bird has a lot of vit/min] Your Paco's diet we'll vary even from day to day. You might try giving Paco his fresh veggies in the afternoon. Our Grey's are suppose to have around 18-21% good fat[non-sat]. If you get a chance try: "Beak-Appetite" brand wet food.[we really like it]Switch off each day on what veggies you feed. Another trick is to "juice" veggies and give it as a *drink treat* blend your veggie,,,[broc is strong] You can also let him sip Low sodium V8 juice YUM. Remember: dark green veggies, and lightly cooked carrots rule. Spock

Post edited by: Jayd, at: 2010/03/11 01:08

Wow, this reminds me of when I rode for Wells Fargo in 1842, These hacker's would get into our mail bags and with a piece of charcoal black out words, when people got there mail, they wouldn't know how to make it out. Sometimes they, the hackers would write "Return to sender"...We fixed them,,, we invented "email"......
