It is extremely important to weigh your baby daily in the morning after the "big bomb" (morning poop). For those of you who have kept up on Spock's dilemma will understand. A couple of grams is nothing to worry about. Six grams one day, stays down six grams for a couple of days, goes up a couple of grams the next day (not eight) still down six is worry time. A poop check should also be performed daily...example: Zupreem Fruit Pellets will change the feces color to the color of his favorite pellet. The same goes for other foods including veggies that we feed them. When they eat a blackberry, you'd swear it was blood. The amount of urine is also a very important indicator of health. It can mean illness or too much fruit and veggies. It's most important for stability in weight within a couple of grams daily. When they reach their optimum weight, they will stabilize. Jayd

I sent a copy of your reply's to Will, He asked if I would post his thank you.....Jay My Dad sent me a copy of your response to a memo he posted about me, I wish to thank you all for your concern and best wish's. I'm getting ready for my resort stay, 3 weeks of mineral hot springs, mud baths and I hear "intense" therapy, German style.LOL Sometimes we have to do things we don't want or even like to protect "Freedom" and human right's. I personally would rather say "Hi" then "bang", maybe soon. Again thank you. Sincerely Will.

Concerning *Good Fat's-Bad Fat's* http://parrotcomforts.wordpress.com/2010/02/15/fats-and-efa/ http://ezinearticles.com/?Essential-Fatty-Acids-for-Parrots&id=62021 "African Greys have been found to have a higher need for E.F.A.s than other species and I always recommend supplementing their diet with flax seed oil 3 or 4 times a week. Molting and feather plucking also increase the need, as does breeding and raising babies. Macaws also have a higher need for fat and I recommend mixed nuts 3 to 4 a day which are high in unsaturated fats and actually lower the saturated fat in the body. Vitamin E is needed for E.F.A.s to be absorbed and nuts provide the proper balance. Additional sources of E.F.A.s are many seeds and legumes (including peanuts)." Jayd

Really good looking, get some 1 ounce "Souffle" paper cups, stick a treat [a nut or piece of food] and crumble it up and give it as a foraging toy...You can get them at most stores [or McDonald's] LOL.....Jayd;)

To begin, I have to agree with Danmcq, She and lovethatgrey and the others who have given you good advice regarding moderation in all foods. Due to Spock's inability to accept all the nutrients his body needs, a special diet has been developed for him by two vets and two CAS's. and many, many hours of research and blood tests to check nutrient levels. One of the foods that Spock gets in his daily diet is a 1/2 teaspoon of hulled sunflower seeds. By themselves, they can be detrimental but they are rich in essential fatty acids (EFT) along with other nuts included in his diet. Some of the following information is provided by Pamela Clark, CVT,CPBC "Essential Fatty Acids (EFA) your Omega 6 and 3, companion greys need an adequate amount of EFA's which are easily destroyed by heat, air and light which eliminates pellets as a complete source of EFA's. Walnuts, Brazil nuts, pumpkin seeds, canola oil supply, in moderation, EFA's." "An average companion Grey's diet should be 18 to 21% protein. Wild Greys feed on a variety of seeds, nuts, fruits, berries and plants. A favorite wild diet is oil palms. These fruits contain 90% oil and they are high in Vitamin A and EFA's." Again, in moderation, nuts and sunflower seeds are the main source of EFA's. A diet that consists of vegetables, pellets, nuts, seeds and fruits, with fruit as a small portion of their diet is a well-balanced diet. The best fruits are the true berries (blackberries, blueberries, rasberries). For our companion Greys who won't accept pellets, besides Harrison's , Nutri-berries are an excellent replacement for pellets. Someday I will do a post about how different vegetables bring out and compliment other vegetables. Remember, lots of dark green leafy vegetables, beta-carotene. Hi everyone, were on Spock's second vet, unfortunately they both agree on most everything...We keep a log and close eye on all that he eats, we have stopped or changed ingredient when we notice changes. They generally agree it's metabolism and the organs not accepting what it needs. If you notice in the photos how the crop area is shrunken and the breast area protrudes, it's like his crop can only accept a small amount of food at one time. He's a big bird compared to Joey and is always on the go, very active..It's constant worry and constant prayers....Thank you all for your support.. Jayd... Spock here, LADY BIRDS!!! Whoa, I'll be well soon!!!!!B)

Spock's still the same, test show nothing positive..His weight stays around 430, he gets really tired by night time and still eats a lot. We found out whats wrong with his back feathers, Spock stands on his tail with his back against the corner of the cage with feet stretched to each side holding on to the cage scratching like a bear ruffling his feathers. We wish he would get well...Jay...

{Emotions-00020073} WHO FLUNG THE FOOD? I have reached the end of my rope and am clinging to my patience by a thread...I have watched Spock and Joey throw out their broccoli spears to the dog Rolo, who thinks he got mana from heaven and runs off to hide with his treasure. I have not said anything when Spock or Joey have bombed the poor dog while he is trying to get a nap on the sofa and hide from Salsa at the same time. (Salsa likes to sneak down, nip at Rolo's clipped tail and then run away). I really have a problem though with hardened split peas and lentils. Call me a Princess with a pea but they really hurt when I step on them or sit on them after they have hardened. I also have been blasted with mash in places that I would not mention in polite company. This morning was the last straw...I had just showered before I got their breakfast and as I was feeding them, I felt a huge plop of warm smash hit the back of my neck and slide down my back. When I looked up, I saw three sets of innocent looking birds watching me with a "WHO ME?" look on their faces... If this continues, they will have to start feeding themselves...ooops! Salsa already uses a spoon...Sheeessss....{Feel-good-0002006E} Maggie
