Hi Melinda - sorry about your loss. I lost my cockatiel back in January 2009 and then extensively researched the African Greys. I can't comment on any other parrots - but my cockatiel took care of itself in comparison to what it takes to look after my grey - they absolutely change your routine and life and you have to accept this when choosing your lifelong companion (as they live for many, many years).
Even though I'd had birds all my life (my cockatiel was 17 and I had budgies etc before) I am still learning about my CAG and he is nearly one.
I hope you make the right decision and find a reputable breeder :)
I know what you mean! 06.15am this morning I was hoying water over my car windscreen (luke warm, not boiling!!) and spraying de-icer! Good old Northumberland County Council - not a road gritted!!! Safe driving methinks from now on!
Right Caroline - your tree is up - but are your birds up your tree? I am dreading it!!!!
Yes Julie - fully agree. I support our allies 100%. Prayers and thoughts to the families and troops who will be separated at this time of year. Karma to you xx
Harvey isn't scared of anything either - new toys, people, noises ANYTHING! I have had to make my uplighter lamps in my living room redundant since Harvey arrived (halogen) as he was eyeing them up early on - he is only interested when the light is on - never when it is off! I'm hoping it's just a phase and he'll become like me - shy, retiring and quiet!!
Oh they are great interior designers - excellent decorating aids!
Yes, at all times have dried pellets, dried fruits and seeds (non perishables) for her to nibble on - accompanied by fresh water at all times.
No Dee - just kept in the cupboard - it's cold the UK you know!!!
It is quite hard - but does melt at a very low temperature - if I put my finger in it it melts straight away. I would have thought "oil" would be "oil" too!!!
You know what I found was useful early on as treats - Cheerios! Harvey used to love them (won't look at them now)!
Harvey always has pellets as Janet describes and fresh veg (favouring broccoli at the moment) - also peas, carrots, spinach etc. Most end up on the floor - it's part of the game!
Oh Lyn - they LOVE the bones - cracking into them, eating the marrow - as adjudged by Harvey's face in this photo from a posting I made earlier in the year:

Oh what beauties Dan - I can't believe I missed these! I am so, so sorry!! You may have a sprinkling and a tinkling of my karma wand!
Ha Ha! Go on there Dee - you're a proper Emily Pankhurst!
