  1. The scraping thing is entirely normal - it's been discussed a million times why they do this - whether it's forraging as they do in the wild or as little attention seekers - I favour the attention seeking. Harvey doesn't go to the bottom of his cage ever - and uses his food bowl to scrape around manically - he wants to be out. Leave him - you are right you don't want to get into the habit of getting him out - he'll think that's how he gets his own way every time. Don't worry about it though - it's totally normal Glad to hear Gorgie's settling in x
  2. I'm in the UK and wide awake (at work in fact - whoops)! It must be such a strain for her current owner to part with her - but in her heart of hearts she knows she is doing the right thing in order that Ipo is cared for and loved for a long, long time. It will be breaking her heart letting her go. You are doing a great thing and you've researched so much and realised that you can't just pick Ipo up and fetch her home and think she'll just act the same with you. It will all be new to both of you and small steps will be needed - she will miss her owner, it's only natural. She sounds like an absolute angel - and I look forward to hearing more (and seeing some photos!!). Good luck - keep us updated.
  3. Oh no Tam - I am so, so sorry. Most of us have suffered the heartache of losing our beloved pets and know exactly what you are going through. My thoughts are with you and your family at this terrible, terrible time. Jill x
  4. What do you think!! He's fine at the minute thanks Janet - but who knows what his next mood swing will bring!
  5. Oh, and just to add - if I were Judy I would be worried! Have you noticed EVERY person who has joined in this thread are a little bonkers - what's that say about her!!!!

Tinkerbell has been in our lightshade for at least the last four months (or at least that's what my sister says when my nieces are working themselves at my house - Santa has Tinkerbell watching them from the lightshades to see if they've been good!!). So Santa knows I've been good. He might bring me Prozac, Vallium and Amitriptyline - but he'll still be bringing me some presents!! As for Julie - "I think I'm the only sane person....." This comes from the woman who bought birdie tents!!!! :woohoo:
  7. Great adaption Janet - my only complaint was that I'm sitting in my office and have to sing "in my head". I'll give it a go when I get home!!!

Karma to you for adopting an older grey and you appear to have been so sensible in your approach - with the visits to your new "baby". You will find all of the information you need to know about training, feeding etc here. There are many members of our forum who have adopted greys and other parrots to much success. Ask any questions you deem "silly" - I can promise you they won't be - and I'll have asked them before anyway! Looking forward to getting to know you and learning more about your new addition.

    I SPY

Jingle Bells Santa is in our living room eating M P
  10. I've read about people who have these emergency cages in their homes in order that they are readily available to grab to get their birds out of their homes. I just don't have anywhere close to Harvey I could store one - but what a brilliant idea the pillow case is. Thanks for this Julie x
  11. Ha Ha! Beau is far to independent to have his mammy pour him some juice - nope! He can do it alone! Great picture Julie - Beau is lovely
  12. Is this a psychological test of what you did this morning Julie and you're looking for an answer? I've been back and looked at this 20 times today and I am no further forward!!!
  13. You win - you're stupider than me!!!
  14. Bernie, Bernie, here, Bernie - can you put Nell McAndrew down and talk to me? Can you believe that that bunch of fools on grey forums are having to look after parrots - clean bird poop, feed ridiculous diets to their birds, buy toys, teach them to speak - their parrots only have one "special" person. I can't believe that here Brad Pitt is feeding Harvey and cleaning his poop and is that Angelina over there peeling your grapes? Well, I'm glad they think they exiled us - but really I think THEY'VE CREATED A MONSTER! I'm not going back - it's better being here - they don't know what they are missing!! Dependent on how Judy reacts, we'll see if she wants to join us - it is her thread after all!!!!
  15. Same with Harvey harmar - he won't touch it on toast, porridge anything - but obviously lovely eating it from the spoon - I don't bother trying now - just give him the spoon!!
  16. Hi Zippity and Welcome to our Family. You are in the right place to find out all you need to know about your new CAG. You don't say whether this is a baby you are bringing home? This is an excellent link about bringing home a bird and has all the vital settling in techniques included: http://www.greyforums.net/understanding-your-grey/your-baby-grey-is-coming-home.html You have to remember that everything is so new to him and he has been removed from all he knows - take it slowly, let him find his way around etc. I presume you have done all of the research regarding feeding and their dietary needs? Also, their need for interaction etc. Please read all of the information included on this forum ~ and any questions that you have please feel free to post - any stupid ones will have already been asked by me (and I still continue to do so)!! If you have a moment - go and tell us about yourself in our Welcome Room - we also like photos of your baby too!!
  17. Oh you better believe it baby!! Judy leaves us for a few days Lyn and that's it - me and Bernie run wild! Janet tried for about five seconds to stop this utter mayhem, but rejected my offer for her to become my surrogate mother (I am still weeping about this). I could have all been stopped, if it wasn't for the rejection from Janet. So, really, Janet is to blame for the riotus activity being enjoyed by Bernie and I!!!

    I SPY

lightning strike I spy a C T in a window at this time of year.
  19. Ah - what a sweetie! He looks right at home! You wouldn't have thought he'd been with you for such a short length of time. He is so gorgeous - now the fun begins!!!!
  20. That's great news - can't wait to see some photos of him. This time is such a precious time and the baby stage is over far too quickly. The only thing I would say is that next time you take him out in the car you should really have had him in a carrier - a sudden fright can send him flapping around the car and can cause the driver to lose concentration etc Can't wait to see some photographs - I love babies!!
  21. Ah, lovely little Beau - he's obviously such a sweetie Robin - because as I was reading this I was picturing Harvey doing exactly the same thing - with the "and then his beak sunk into my toe" bit added somewhere between the rubbing of the beak and the tugging of the denim! We need some more photos to see how he's getting on
  22. Talon wrote: Will you just tell them you are making a Jill Room - all this beating around the bush isn't good for anyone and I feel a fraud sitting here pretending I don't know!! :woohoo: You and Dan better have an admin meeting soon - as obviously once Bernie and I take over you'll be reduced to litter pickers - in fact, that's if we find a job for you at all!!!!! I've logged in and have no threatening messages from Judy - so either she's monitoring our wild ways, or has just thrown in the towel!!!!
  23. OOh, don't stop there Janet - end the story!!!
  24. Supernova wrote: "Here we are at the lake, that's my boat, that's the lake - off we go: Vrooom, Weeee, Eeeee, Brruuuum! Does that help?
  25. I think in parrot's cases that the old saying "be careful what you wish for" really comes into play!!! Saying that - I can't wait until Harvey un-mutes the button and starts saying more than "hello" - and only when HE feels like it!!!
