How to get 10 minutes peace in this house!! Give him a palm nut! He usually bites straight in, takes the nut out first, sucks it dry then goes back to the flesh! They might be expensive, but boy are they worth the quiet time!! Post edited by: JillyBeanz, at: 2009/09/12 16:30

Post edited by: JillyBeanz, at: 2009/09/12 16:33

It is funny when they swear - but only if they don't belong to you! I'd be gutted if Harvey started swearing - we don't swear in front of our nieces (the kids are different - they're older!!), so I'd hate Harvey to swear. Lyn - the money you've made you can put towards whatever Alfie has destroyed this week!!
-
Dave - I'm so excited to follow this thread - It's like "live cam"! Can you not set up a website we can click on to show their live progress!! Please, please keep adding - I'm loving this!!

"Biting" has many meanings. A "proper" bite is when they draw blood. This has happened to me on a couple of occasions - but this is when Harvey has been in a foul mood. Harvey used his beak all of the time. You actually learn the body language of your grey and learn when to stay away if they are going to bite you. They use their beaks to balance and sometimes Harvey will lean forward and dig in slightly too hard - but you learn to live with these - they aren't real bites. One example would be now - the post man has just been and Harvey's chewing the envelope. I'll not try to take it from him!! Good luck with your baby - there are loads of interesting posts on this site which will help you make a stable and exciting environment for him/her.

Thanks for this Bernie - there is far too much of this going on and I feel that the actual phone companies aren't doing enough to stop it. I hope you've all joined the caller's preference service - I now receive absolutely NO cold calls - when before I received at least 1 - 2 per night.

For the past week or so Harvey has been mumbling and grumbling, but with no great formation of anything - but for the last couple of nights, it's as clear as day - He's saying "Hello". It's still in that gravelly, mumbly low tone, but I think he's on his way!!! YAY!!! He's been really vocal this week, with all different noises we haven't heard before, whistling, squawking, grumbling, then "Hello" thrown in the middle. I've sat here for the past 10 minutes and he hasn't shut up! I'm really excited - it would have been fine if he was a grey who didn't talk - but it looks like he'not not going to be!! I'm surprised though that his first words aren't "Harvey, no!". I'll have to mind my Ps and Qs from now on eh?

That's great Lyn - Alfie will be a bathtime pro in no time! I gave Harvey his first shower the day after we brought him home and I always make sure he goes in a couple of times a week (actually, I'm sitting here soaking because we've just had a "session")! He sits fairly "happily" on the perch in the shower and lets me lift his wings to spray under etc, but I still don't achieve the "full drench" - but each time I know he looks a little wetter! Keep up the good work - She'll be screaming to come in with you sooner rather than later
-
Steve that is absolutely hilarious! He's so clear - and definitely knows what he is (and the rest of the grey population)!! Thanks for this

Harvey loves to make a noise. The only way to stop him would be to wrap them all in cotton wool! Bells don't last long - he chews the "dinger" out straight away!! :woohoo:

I haven't watched this - but can read from the responses what it's about. For goodness sake - it's not informative, it's not funny, it's not entertaining - so why on earth dig it up? If it had been a year old tip on how to make your grey guess the lottery numbers then - okay - so be it, but come on - we don't need to see it - we know it happens - it's not nice though. Can we not have things like this deleted? I for one don't like seeing stuff like this in nature (but accept it is nature) let alone some &8$£? filming it. Rant over!

Poor, poor Macey - it's really good that you did find an avian vet - so fingers crossed they will make her all better.
-
I'm glad it's the weekend - housework done, first beer slipped down very nicely thank you!
-
That's absolutely fab Bernie - I can see why you love to do it - I wouldn't even be able to turn it round a corner!!
-
Welcome all (and those who have joined early, slurped and gone - you are still counted and fully paid up!!). Gee, Am I glad it's Friday! I now have a beer and I am quite happy!!! Paaaarty!!!! :woohoo:
-
A day after my wedding anniversary and three days before my birthday! The only problem is Bernie - it's September - how many barbies have you had this year!!! Tell her happy birthday from me too - I presume that you will be taking your Blackberry and joining the forum from the forest? Do they have any phone masts
-
You are pardoned for this evening Sheila - you do need to make the pennies to buy the booze! See you later!!!!! :woohoo:
-
So - it's even worse! The gap was wider! You have the cheek to take the mick out of me!!!! And Sheila, from now on - you'll be forever in my heart as "Skippy"!!!
-
Thanks for your comments about my photos Julie - they're taken on my phone!! Therefore, I will have to confess that I'm no David Bailey!!! Harvey's not special this morning - he tried to chew the little button that you press to make a spark on the gass hob (how technical am I!!) - that goes then so does my tea!!! PS: I must add the hob was not switched on at the time and this was 06.00am this morning!!!
-
My thoughts and best wishes to all involved, affected and just who remember.

Bernie - Harvey does EXACTLY the same thing! I tell him he's going in his "house" (not cage!!) and he sits on his therapeutic pink perch like Ben (very in touch with his feminine side) and I say "I'm going to work now Harvey". He whitles once, then sits and chews his nails! How bizarre it's at the same time as Ben! Great pictures Bernie xx
-
I love whistling at Harvey - and he too whistles back. I read all that about not whistling as your grey won't talk - but after all the advice on here I realised it was rubbish. Actually, saying that, he still doesn't talk  - he's only 8 months old though - I'm not worried! Whistle away - Harvey's just about mastered an English nursery rhyme!
-
I agree - he is so special - but he still likes to dig his beak in now and then! I haven't been blessed with a parrot that doesn't bite! I say "bite" - it's only once in a while that he does dig in when I could scream - but I don't! Harvey's not liking Michael at all at the moment - he'll sit on him, but if he tries to touch him it's all hackles and beak! Funnily though - Michael often gets in before me and has no problem getting him onto his hand and out of his cage! The bird knows what he's doing!!!
-
Enough said, enough said! How on earth couldn't you see the gate post! I bet it's been there longer than the caravan!! :woohoo:

In South Africa, carrier pigeon faster than broadb

Ha Ha! I get asked all of the time if Harvey is a pigeon! I'm up for pigeon page! Thanks for this Dan - very funny!

Post edited by: JillyBeanz, at: 2009/09/10 19:45 -
Grey having seizure type thing.. HELP!! EMERGENCY!
JillyBeanz replied to iiyanx7's topic in Health Room
Glad to hear you've had a better day - I would definitely try and find a vet that you could call for advice. I understand the problems of going to the hotels - I thought you may have had a friend who worked in one, or links to one at least. I'd still keep an eye on him though - but hopefully you're through the worst.
