Harvey would eat seeds until the cows came home - I've recently starting limiting them as he seems to favour them over the pellets and his veggies too. How about trying your baby with some fresh veggies and beans too - he may decide that he likes these too

I won! It might be your game! But I still won! Try again!!!!!

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. "I could dance with you till the cows come home...On second thought, I'd rather dance with the cows when you came home."

Interior design - Harvey's turned a rather beautiful, expensive conservatory lamp into a "unique" hole punched piece of architecture! Also - fashion design - I have a lovely scarf here that he's just ripped a massive hole in after me turning away for only a moment!!

# 31 They can turn you from a strong, confident individual into a quivering, nervous wreck - reliant on others to calm you down and take hold of the situation!! Nope - actually - I think that's just me!!!

Harvey attacks, and I mean attacks his toys on his playstand - I wouldn't fancy being between his beak and the toy when he gets going - he gives them a right hammering! Dan's right - the stainless steel bowls are best - especially at 06.15 am when you are the only one up in the house and preparing your baby's breakfast and they throw that bowl on your slate floor.......everyone's awake then!!!!
-
Gosh, Sheila - I'm ready too! I need to drink having Harvey - he's driving me to distraction!! When I think back, my poor, poor Spiky - 17 years and he was just left to get on with it! I had him at the vets once in his early years as he had a chest infection, and then obviously more towards the end. Harvey might well have been there five or six times already - and there's nowt the matter with him!!!

The noise is a parrot who wanted to get the better of his best mate! The only way I can describe it (to dog owners) is that little low growl that a dog makes when you are eyeing up it's bone! Harvey's was in time with his breathing though - so it was definitely pneumonia, a collapsed lung or a pulmonary emboli! I am so pleased the vet didn't have an appointment - I would have given him £50 for him to pat me on the back and say "he's fine, just watch him!!" He hasn't done it since - has eaten me out of house and home, flown around every room in the house (as usual) and is now sitting on the top of the door whilst I type finding those "darn feathers". I'm a nervous wreck!!

He is sooooo gorgeous!! I am sure that you put these photos on just to make me jealous!!! Of course, I couldn't have another, I'd be a basket case - so I'll just enjoy the pictures of beautiful, handsome Darius. Thanks for these Pat - I'm still in love

Oh my god - you are all so good! I personally would have a nervous breakdown having more than one!!! I couldn't imagine the strains and stresses of having two!! I take my hats off to anybody who has more than one! You are troopers!!

We had a bit of trouble with Katie's head teacher too - he told six girls that they were bullies (these girls are sweet, lovely girls I must add) as and ex-friend who had started spreading rumours about these girls had been ignored and therefore the father went to the school to complain. The head teacher came straight out with it - told them they were bullies. I (along with the other five parents involved) went in and wiped the floor with him - needless to say he backed down. I feel that some teachers are infatuated with their own authority and principals and only their word is sacred. In the defence of other teachers - Katie has some marvellous teachers too. Hope all turns out fine with Paul Robin - he's a smashing kid, by all accounts. Jill xx

As some of you may know, Harvey has been going through his first moult. Coupled with this I have it in my head that he is losing weight (this only fluctuates 8 or 9g per day at the most - and rises again in the evening after a good day's feed!). This bird has me paranoid. Today I came in from work and took him from his cage, which was the usual foraging rubbish on the floor, food on the floor, poop on the floor - you all know what I mean. I took him out of his cage and gave him a big kiss and put him on his playstand and prepared his dinner. His usual is to pick the veggies out and toss them as far as he can - which I duly pick back up for "second chances"! Today he started "growling" with every breath - I was so scared I phoned the vet to make an appointment (as I was adamant it was his final breath). The first appointment I could get was tomorrow. My husband came in, calmed me down, calmed Harvey down and insists it's just one of his "new noises" - which he is right - he has completely stopped this and is suffering absolutely no adverse effects! I can't cope anymore!! I'm really going to end up in the loony bin over a blinking parrot!!!
-
I find it amazing on what greys pick up on - Harvey can only mumble "hello" at the moment - so I know I must mind my Ps and Qs nowadays - this just proves it! Thanks for letting me know how easy they do pick up things!!

Well, I bought some Aloe Juice a few weeks ago - tried to spray him and he went absolutely mental! I basically chased him around the house - so gave in. I got some advice to try it when he's in his cage - but he went mental again - so I gave in. I came home early from work today and decided I would bite the bullet and mist him in his cage again. He went mental for about five seconds, and then stopped! The only thing is, I just felt I was wetting his feathers as he wouldn't fluff up in the way my tiel used to (just showed him the bottle and he looked like a cotton ball). I did reach in and lift his wings, so his little arm pits got a wetting - so I'm not sure how much got through to his skin. He's still scratching, but not as many feathers are falling this evening

Macey Died but Baby needs new home what do I do..?
JillyBeanz replied to maceygrey's topic in The GREY Lounge
Nothing will ever replace Macey - she'll always be special. Only you know if you are ready for another bird. Remember, don't feel guilty. Your new bird isn't a replacement, just the next generation that needs some loving. When I lost my cockatiel (I'd had him 17 years) in January I felt that I didn't want another bird, but I realised how empty the house was without a pet - and that's how Harvey arrived. I'm sure you'll make the right decision -

Erm, where's the other one Judy?

Well, I'm not sure scientifically - but he is absolutely stupid at the moment! He's just hit himself in the head with his bell!
-
Absolutely brilliant!! I do hope you're using a one enriched with balm so not to chafe! Best not be using that cheap papery type!! This just wouldn't be acceptable Dan! I'm going to try one in Harvey's cage tomorrow when I go to work - I imagine I'll return to one hell of a mess!! Thanks for the idea Dan

Eeew! I'm sorry, but all this is pretty awful - it's like letting a dog hump your leg or a blanket! Harvey will have to do this in private I'm afraid! Julie - I absolutely dread to think what you found when looking for an example
-
Oh my god! These cost an absolute fortune in the UK!!! I'm sure the last ones we bought were about £10 and you only get about 15 of them!! These are more valuable than diamonds!! Lucky Lucky you!!

Harvey will grab my finnger and do the motions and he is 9 months old (we brought him home fully weaned). I just remove my finger from his beak. Don't feed Yoshi mushrooms though - they are a fungus and quite harmful to greys x

Post edited by: JillyBeanz, at: 2009/09/22 08:10

Hi Robin - the time you've had recently you deserve a little tipple - and I love the name Tequila (obviously in honour of our little club)! Very good of you to think of me at the naming ceremony!

# 28 If he loses a few feathers you will convince yourself that he's plucking and you haven't looked after him properly (or is that just me
