"and they stick that thing up my x#@&%$#..." {Feel-good-0002006E} Oh Spock you are a card! We love you Spock, live long & prosper.

Lots of love & hugs winging their way to you Spock. Get well soon.

I am sooo  so I can well imagine how you feel  I can also understand how you are blaming yourself for this but you mustn't, you should be able to trust your vet and so you did. You have done the right thing in going directly to the specialist and don't be afraid to chase them up if you feel they are taking too long getting back to you. I agree with Lyn you should put in a formal complaint about the service (or lack of) you recived. Unfortunately our beloved fids can't speak up for themselves therefore we have to take on that particular task ourselves. I'm so pleased that Vree is showing signs of improvement but if there is a break then surely it needs to be re-set in it's correct position otherwise it may heal in the wrong place. I don't want to scare you and I don't pretend to know any more about it than the next person but these people need a bomb up their arses :evil::evil:

I have just purchased a travel/holiday cage for Beau however I became slightly concerned when assembling it as my hands became dirty from the metal. I know some birds suffer from metal poisoning and am now worried about using the cage. It looks to me like steel (not stainless) and more worrying for me is that it says "made in China" on the box - never a good sign lol. Can anyone tell me which metals can cause poisoning in birds? Thanks.

Dan you are spot-on and have summed it up well. Sometimes I feel a little guilty that my feeling are different towards my two babies but you have made me feel a little better about that, thank you. The only way I can describe it is that I have different relationships with both my fids but I love them both.

Do keep us updated Jay, we are all concerned about your sweet little vulcan.

Wonderful shots of Emma, she is certainly enjoying her cookie toy in these pics! Thanks for sharing and for the recommendation.

Post edited by: Joolesgreyuk, at: 2010/02/05 13:07 -
Oh lord how wonderful are these babies!

Thank you for your help Jane x

If I were you I'd certainly pester that vet until something is done, your baby has suffered enough. Keep up the good work you are doing great!

I have put a lot of thought into the clicker training method but have decided that positive reinforcement is more suitable from my point of view. Because I have two birds in the one room I think it would be confusing to the second bird whilst training the first one and visa versa, I have also had to think long and hard about what treat I can use when carrying out the positive reinforcement. Argyle isn't big on treats and it has to be a very small treat you can give several at a time - the only thing I think might work is sunflower seeds (which I so far have been able to buy seperate from other seeds) but they will fall through the opened-out cage door where Argyle sits - well I won't be holding them in my hand! I really don't want to start the training until I have everything worked out in my head and it has to be Steve to start with - I don't think he is keen. Sorry about the long answer but I'd be interested to hear success stories with either method.

I just wanted to share my thoughts with the only people who would understand - you guys. My lovely Beau is now 13 months old and is beginning to learn stuff much faster, he is picking up new things almost weekly now - words or antics. He has become so integrated into the family that I cannot imagine life without him now. In many ways it's like having a new(ish) baby, he has truly melted my heart - no one else could understand the effect these wonderful birds have on your life. I find I'm constantly worrying about his health and the possible effects of different things on his health, the latest being aspergillosis which I read an article on elsewhere, possible causes being moulds and household dust, don't laugh but after reading it, I went into the "bird's room" with a damp cloth and wiped down all the surfices after moving the cages away! You have probably noticed I've omitted Argyle from my thoughts, of course I love Argyle too but I have a different relationship with Argyle - it's more a polite respect lol. Anyway, I just wanted to share with those who I knew would understand, I may be (more than) a little crazy but my fids really are my babies and I worry about them as if they were just that.

Dee you are an inspiration. Reserve tickets for me too!

Awww bless her.. -
Oh Jay & Maggie, you really are going through it this week! I'm sorry for your loss, do keep faith and hugs to you both xx
-
Oh that does sound a nasty injury, poor Vree and poor you. As others have said you are doing everything possible, all you can do is keep him as comfortable as possible and be there in his sight. Wishing you a quick response from the vet, do phone him back if you feel you need to. Also wishing sweet Vree a speedy recovery.

Janet's example made me think of something that happened to a friend of mine, not so much lost in translation - more lost in confusion LOL. My friend was going for her postnatal (6 weeks after birth of her baby) check-up and whilst the doctor was doing an (shall we say private) examination he said "and how are relations" meaning of a sexual nature and my friend said "oh mum & dad are both fine" LOL! Not sure if I'd tell anyone this, not even a close friend had it been me.

These people do wonderful work, I only wish I had enough money to fund all parrot charities.

Sammy is adorable, you must surely be devestated at having to re-home him, how sad.
-
{Feel-good-0002006E} LOL Janet, that one cheered me up today, Karma!
-
OMG how precious is that! No wonder Khushi wanted to show him off.
-
Happy hatchday Ecko! He sure is enjoying that cake Caitlyn - he's a fine-looking grey too!

About a week ago I requested some free samples from this US based company, someone on another forum recomended doing this. This morning I was quite amazed to receive a good-sized box all the way from the US bursting with quality goodies - I'm SO impressed! Their UK distributor is Northern Parrots so I will be browsing their nutricious range of foods, snacks and treats on there in future. Recomended!

I'll second that sentiment. I remember Rishi's story all too well but I didn't realise he was still sick. Rishi & Spock have my very best wishes - always xx

Reading this makes me so sad, I had also noticed there had been less posts from Spock, he is almost like one of my own to me because I love reading his posts on here. I know he is getting more love than anyone else could give him and along with your vet, the best treatment available - you can't ask for more than that. Hang in there Spock and try to have a greyt birthday, let those human types spoil you all day - more than usual. Sending you love from the westcountry. Beau & Argyle sending beaky loves also.
