1. I've often wondered if our greys actually know or care how much they are loved by their owners. Are they in fact like human babies who's only care in the world is where their next meal is coming from? Can they actually "love" a parent bird or flock member be it human or birds in a wild situation. My guess is that they are driven by two things; where the next meal is coming from and later this and pro creating. What are your views on this, do you think your baby knows how much he/she is loved and can they even love in return or is love a purely human emotion? Ha I think I already know Dave's answer ;-)
2. I take it Nilah's a good talker then Penny. How old is she now?
3. You're a good sport Jill.
4. Thank you Janet & Jay, now I (almost) want an zon. Thank you Janet for the wonderful quizzes you set. Karma to you for all you do.
5. Thank you very much Janet (takes a bow) well I certainly learned a lot about Amazons in my research and I guess that was the purpose of the quiz ;-) Now, where's my trillion karma?!
6. He was the first man to break the 4 minute mile barrier. ...and I can't think of a question
7. Sun??? What is that exactly to us Brits Dave? Don't remember what that looks like...
8. I wouldn't be able to give mine away - kids that is!
9. I've never thought of or heard about cuttlebone containing mercury. Mine have a piece each in their cage and Beau occasionally has a nibble of his...now I'm not sure if I should keep it in there! I've always thought it was a good source of calcium.
10. Yes I think even if we couldn't recognise them, they would us. Beau would fly to me for sure and of course they all sound like us when they talk
11. LOL love it, Beau does that sound too (probably in a different tune) it's the sound he got from me when I have a treat for him - so he's probably asking for a treat ;-)
12. Oh Jill you are so cruel to poor Harvey
13. Haha, I kind of announced I had found a 2nd parrot and waited for the reaction so I can relate to your last paragraph
14. I know there was a similar post to this not so long ago but I've been unable to find it so apologies for repeating the subject but... I've always wondered if I would recognise Beau should he ever be lost (God forbid) and be found by someone else. Their first question would probably be "what goes your CAG look like?" or "are there any distinguishing features", I always thought Beau was similar looking to other greys but since seeing many others I realise he isn't. Most other greys I see are bigger for a start and Beau is also darker than many, he is definately a congo though. So I'm reasonably confident I would recognise him. Does anyone else think they could?
15. I've been back to the shop in which we bought Beau many times buying food or toys, often they have greys for sale, sometimes more than one. Of course I can never resist going over and talking to them but never has a grey responded to me the way Beau did, he interacted with the 3 of us - especially me. No other grey has done that either before or since. Beau was amazing from day 1 and although at the time we had only gone to get a cage in preparation for our new grey I knew he was the one and had to secure him until we were ready to buy him. Has anyone else had this or a similar experience when looking for a grey or other parrot? Did your parrot chose you and if so how?
16. Precious, the same happened here, mum bought me a bigger water dish to bathe in but I still don't get as wet as I do with the addition of the spray bottle I love it and open my wings ready for a good soaking. Haha Harvey, you are too smart for your humans, they just don't get it do they? Chocko, you have also out-smarted the humans..well it's not hard is it  Catch you later, Argyle xxx

Post edited by: Joolesgreyuk, at: 2010/02/23 15:59
17. Amazing videos Dan especially the second one. It isn't just the words either, they have the accents too, Dayo is an all American boy
18. Too true Harvey, if I'd have been quicker we could've been shot of that green pest  mind you don't let on but I quite enjoy his company I've started saying "good boy" today, I've been practising all day, at first the humans seemed delighted with this but after a while they seemed to get tired of it. What is it with those humans, they're never satisfied are they Anyway I'm the only one who knows if I am actually a boy and I'm not about to say, keep 'em guessing I say! Anyway I'm off to practice more words it seems to please the humans but I only talk when I want to - not to order. Laters, Beau xx
19. Morning fellow fids and welcome to the new ones ;-) Well I had a nice day yesterday, mum's eldest human son allowed me out of my cage so mum could finally give it a good scrub. I must admit I took a few nips of him but I was only testing him to see if he would get  but he didn't so I let him off. I sat on his shoulder most of the time preening. Mum put a cement perch in for me as my nails are getting long and sharp. Anyway my home is so much cleaner now but generally I don't like humans messing with my home, I don't like leaving it much either. I liked that particular human and he seemed to like me, I heard him say he would like a green bird like me but he thinks it would be too noisy in a flat (noisy? Me? Huh!) anyway it is quiet today without him around. Better go now, I'm tired - gonna take a nap. XX

21. Poor Willis, thinking of you and please get well soon. Do keep us informed George.
22. Thank you for this link Jay, how very interesting! Watching a flock of exotic birds in this country must be a sight to behold! I guess it's only a metter of time before the powers that be announce a cull is needed to keep numbers down
23. Well Spock at least they have stopped giving you those shots in the chest eh? Love you Spock, live long and prosper
24. I've only just noticed this particular debate although I have read many others on this subject. The one thing I don't think has been covered much on this one is the phycological effects on your bird due to clipping. Many birds become unhappy and pluck, so even when their new flights come in these are often plucked too. Never say never though, it's personal choice and based on the owner's circumstances.
