Aww how cute, I hope Frosty won't grow out of enjoying bath times.

Oh Sheila! I am so sorry to hear this, just when we thought he'd turned the corner. I wish I could help but I'm no wiser than you and you know him better. Hopefully the vet will know if it is the light causing the problem but it's strange he was ok while taking the meds. Don't lose heart and keep us informed eh?

Well Dan, Dayo certainly has a large vocab ;-)

He's caged when we get visitors Jude or they wouldn't be allowed in. I don't think he'd attack - I hope not anyway. No birdnappers would dare though

Beau's molt has gone into overdrive the past couple of weeks, it has gone from loads of white downy feathers to 2 tail feathers and the last few days he has lost lots of grey wing feathers - some of them are big ones and he has even lost some small red bum feathers LOL. I've even began to wonder if Beau is in fact over-preening or plucking. I hope this isn't the case.

Awesome toys from The Parrot Asylum!
Joolesgreyuk replied to lovethatgrey's topic in Homemade Toys & Playstands
These are terrific-looking toys, your pictures are great too! -
Hi Jess, I don't know the answer to your question but if it were me I think I'd be inclined to leave it to Yoshi. If you are unsure can I suggest you pm Dave007.

Does your grey (or other parrot) have a pet hate? Argyle absolutely HATES strangers in the house or garden. We had someone talking to Steve in the hallway this afternoon, Argyle couldn't even see the guy but created mayhem! Doesn't matter who it is, he doesn't like ANYONE if they don't live here. Beau doesn't like anything new unless it's new to his cage. New toys and anything else introduced to his cage is just fine but a new toy hanging from his stand or something new in the house scares him to death. Strange but true. Anyone else's fid have pet hates?

In an attempt to get to know everyone better (and it's too time consuming to go through everyone's profile) I thought I'd start a "do you have other hobbies/interests other than birds" topic. I know our beloved fids take up a huge part of our time but you must have other interests so please share with the rest of us. We all know that Bernie is into toy boats (LOL) and his guitar. As for me, music (listening not making) has always been a big love of mine and my taste is quite diverse - more so as I get older and football (the English kind LOL) is a passion, this is largely a patriotic thing with me but I do enjoy a good match. I almost forgot to add tennis too but I only watch the slams. I've been to Wimbledon the once, back in the 80s and I'd love to go again but tickets are like gold dust and it's quite difficult to get to Wimbledon from here. Anyway, please add your interests below.

Post edited by: Joolesgreyuk, at: 2010/02/27 13:51

Beau's feet are usually a little cold but they soon warm up when he is on one of us. Not sure about beaks. I wouldn't worry about it unless it is extreme.

If that's birdy poop Jill it's a mighty big splat!

Elven, I'm sorry I used you as an example this was only because you are the newest "regular" poster and appear so besotted with your baby, it wasn't a dig at you. Actually I thought I was well-read on greys as I did some research before getting Beau but tbh I knew NOTHING. I have learnt so much since and most of it from this forum. Some people really don't realise that a grey changes as he/she matures. Some people go into a shop and interact with baby greys, giving scritches and so on and they think this is what they have for life, obviously you aren't one of them.

A great idea! Does anyone know a UK based shop or online store that offers this service? -

Some great discussions going on here, I think a thread becomes far more interesting when different views are put forward. If you look at the last sentance of my original post you will see that I already had a good idea what Dave was going to say, because he always says it like it is. Not that I claim to know Dave but he doesn't come over as the sentimental type I for one am very happy that he pointed out these very important facts because we all need to be prepared for the change our greys go through. Beau is 13 months old now and is already changing from the cute cuddle-muffin he was when we first got him at approx. 14 weeks. I know this is nothing compared to when he becomes a "teenager" or adult bird and those hormones kick-in. Unfortunately we are rarely told of these facts when we buy our babies, (most) breeders and pet stores are only interested in the sale, you can't really blame them for this - it's their living. The good shops (yes there are some who care) and breeders will want to ensure their babies' owners are well equiped and have a good basic knowlegde of how to care for our greys AS BABIES but that care rarely goes beyond the first year unless your breeder is a personal friend. This is where these forums become a necessary aid and people such as Dave become an invaluable "friend". I don't always agree with Dave's comments and sometimes I find him rather blunt but I ALWAYS am glad of his views and I respect that he is more knowledgeable than most. So thanks for saying it as it is Dave - karma to you. Elvenking, I know you are totally in love with Issak but you really needed to know what to expect. You can never have too much knowledge about your grey.

LOL Beau likes these too but they are a rare treat.

I tend to agree with Judy on this one, I think love is purely a human emotion, animals are more basic than we are - they have to be to survive in the wild. I believe they come to TRUST us, to the extent they feel comfortable and safe with us but I don't believe they can know how to love in the human sense. Thanks everyone for the replies, interesting discussions. B)

Mine get their bowls filled-up mornings and so it has become "breakfast" but both have yet to repeat this.

An Interesting Observation with Talon Today!
Joolesgreyuk replied to Talon's topic in The GREY Lounge
It always amazes me the intelligence of parrots especially greys, their memories are excellent. A parrot will sometimes take many, many years to forget abuse from a previous owner and will be wary of the new owner and then one day out of the blue suddenly that parrot will trust again. Great post Penny and a good experiment to see Talon's reaction to her previous home.
