1. Dan it was probably just that, he hates me being on my laptop and I should've known better than to ask for a kiss whilst on it but as I said, I have learned something - the hard way but I learned it all the same
2. I don't know what it is Jude, the parrots in this house seem to view me as a punch bag. Well this morning my eye is slightly sore, no swelling which tbh I expected. I couldn't see any damage at all until I closed the affected eye, I have a very definate bite mark on the lid. I guess I must have blinked in the millisecond it took for Beau to reach his target. This time I was lucky, it could have been so much worse. The moral of this story? As Judy says "never say never," You can never 100% trust a parrot!

4. Heehee thanks for that Caroline, nice to know I have your sympathy LOL
5. I asked my Beau for a kiss tonight - he is usually more than happy to oblige and what do I get for my trouble? A peck in the eye! Yes I can still see, well enough to type this anyway lol! That's the last kiss I ever ask him for pah!
6. I didn't "question" his advice, I said "I'd be interested in other people's thoughts" mainly because many people on this particular forum seem to be giving their birds either the palm nuts or the palm oil and because I was surprised at his comments. I didn't "jump" on your comments either, I picked up part of Yours, Dave's and Dan's. I just don't think it good practice to diss someone anywhere public unless you have hard evidence against them.
7. Thanks everyone for the input: Dan, I think you are quite right regarding the aloe, if you aren't sure - pass the buck lol Dave, thank you for your comprehensive answer. Regarding the aloe juice, it really does soften Beau's feathers, they feel softer and silkier after a dousing has dried. As for the skin I wouldn't know as I've never gotton deep through his feathers to find out lol. Anyone who has a bird that plucks would know for sure but it is a soothing product, indeed aloe vera in it's original form is used for soothing sunburn and other skin irritations. As for the palm nuts, I think I will probably reduce the frequency they are given to Beau but I'll not cut them out altogether, surely they cannot be too harmful in moderation. Jill, No you don't know what he has a BS in but it could be parrot/bird related just as it could be something else. I do think it is wrong to diss him especially on a public forum unless there is hard evidence his advice is dangerous. This guy has been recommended to me by an established member of this forum who has had good results following his advice on training. BTW Dave, I was under the impression that greys lived up to 60-65 yrs in the wild, I'm surprised it is only 31 yrs!

Post edited by: Joolesgreyuk, at: 2010/01/19 19:41
8. I've tried looking for the dried pomegranite but can't find it anywhere, not supermarkets nor health food shops. I think Sheila suggested Sainsburys but tbh I'd have to go a bit out of my way to go there and so I haven't bothered and yes they do drink it.
9. Woohoo! Happy hatchday Willis. Lots of treats and spoiling going on in your house today then ;-)
10. Oh yes Pat is so right - the smaller the bird the more deadly the beak LOL. With the bigger birds it's more of a clamp but with the little bu@@ers!!! Best not go there eh? Look forward to more updates on scooby, great name btw.
11. Lyn that's an amazing video, just brilliant! Well done Dan in seeking that one out. Lyn you should know by now that you can run but you cannot hide from us!{Communicate-000200D5}
12. My Beau absolutely adores pomegranite, unfortunately I don't much like giving it to him as the area surrounding it/him usually ends up wearing the stuff! Asda have started doing fresh pomegratite & raspberry juice (not concentrate) in plastic bottle containers so I thought I'd try it with him even though he isn't keen on raspberries and he is drinking it. A nice non-messy alternative to pomegranite I think ;-)
13. I've been having a consultation with Greg Glendell the behaviour specialist (recommended) regarding Argyle and the problems we have been having with him. Greg asked me to fill out an online form which consisted of a variety of questions covering everything including diet. I happened to mention that Argyle isn't interested in palm nuts which Beau enjoys regularly, this was his answer: " Would not feed any bird palm nuts, unless > it was flying about 500miles per week; its just pure fat!" I also answered his question regarding spraying Argyle stating that I sprayed with 50%water/50%aloe juice. This was his reply: "Would not put anything on his wings except pure water, unless on avian > veterinary advice." This advice is contrary to advice received from members on this forum and to what I have come to believe. I'd be interested on other people's thoughts on this. 14. Jess, I almost bought this toy for Beau a while back from the UK site "Northern Parrots" and then I read the reviews: http://www.24parrot.com/Talk-%60n%60-Play--2-Sizes-P34940a/#reviews Please beware as your parrot can break the mirror! I bought an alternative toy instead which had been recommended to me by another forum member: http://www.24parrot.com/product.asp?pf_id=3240a
15. Not sure if this is in the correct forum but I couldn't find an obvious one. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/8453053.stm
16. Pat I do sympathise, I'm having similar problems here but it's reassuring to know that even someone as experienced as you can fall foul to the dreaded macaw beak
17. Lovely pictures. I too love the third one.
18. I know you loved Spikey Jill because you talk of him often and if we know then he must have known it too. It must have been agonising for you to make that decision to help end his pain but you did so in his best interests and because of that decision he now flies free. Bless you Jill and bless Harvey too.
19. This is a great thread, thanks for starting it. One thing I have found is that different species have different body language, although greys' body language varies it is easier to read. I've had my hahns macaw for 6 months now and I'm only just beginning to read him, he is a crafty little devil though - small but cunning lol.
20. Soooo adorable. Picking one from these two will be tough. Janet is so right, they really do chose you!
21. Welcome back Pat, you were missed. Darious & Chatot are so adorable. How are all your fids doing?
22. The reason for my asking his age is that I've never seen my Beau hold his wings low like that when playing. Nice video, thanks for sharing it.
23. I think this woman just just plain baffled, in a "no dogs allowed" store she probably couldn't decide whether or not to allow your grey inside, it would explain her looking at and away from Griffin a couple of times. Either that or she is just plain stoopid lol! What I'd like to know is what was your answer to her question and did you keep it poilte?
