  1. rayyan, you really shouldn't be allowing him to do this. You need to been finding the crayons and putting them out of harms way.
  2. It does sound like Milo is trying out the male voice in your household when saying this particular sentance. Milo is likely to copy more than one person when attempting to talk, anyway It is quite common for greys to sound croaky when trying out words and sentances before they are over a year old.
  3. I weighed Beau for the first time today using my hairdressing scales (very accurate) used for weighing colour in very small amounts - in grams, I had trouble getting him to sit on there but managed to tempt him on with a grape  My reason for weighing at this time is that Beau is looking "slimmer" than ever, his breast bone is quite visable but this is due I think to him molting. Bearing in mind that Beau is the smallest grey I have seen (not that I've seen that many) well, he weighs 415 gramms. Does anyone know if this sounds normal for a petite CAG?
  4. Basically ignoring your hunger Jude {Feel-good-0002006E}
  5. Thanks Jude, they are being spoiled today - and loving it!
  6. With yesterday being new years eve we took the liberty of spending the day at my parents' house. We left our house at 11.30am and went to a new year bash from the said parents' house. We must have got home approaching 2am this morning. I felt a little guilty leaving the birds alone, it was the longest I had left them for and I admit I thought about them often. I knew they had each other's company and I had left the radio on low and they had plenty of food and water. When we arrived home the fids had obviously missed us because they both greeted us with tired chatter and came over for scritches, we then covered them for the night. I was a little concered that there might have been a few fireworks set off nearby - something I hadn't given a thought to. Anyway I just wanted to reassure those parrents (such as Caroline who worries terribly about leaving her greys) that they will be just fine if left for up to 24 hrs and they will show you they have missed you. I wouldn't want to do it very often though ;-)
  7. I've lost a lot of weight this past year but I think a little has gone back on over the Christmas period, I resolve to get rid of it by the end of Jan - I will succeed! I have other resolutions but I'm not about to go into them on here ;-)
  8. I don't think anyone's feathers were ruffled - it was all tongue in cheek wasn't it? Nor do I think anyone doubts Penny's commitment to the forum. If I were Penny I don't think I'd feel guilty or the need to explain myself.
  9. I'll look forward to Chatot's updates Pat, you have been missed. Happy New Year x
  10. Bernie you are a moderator now, no swearing ;-)
  11. Tiffany, I'm so sorry your beautiful grey has gone missing. You must still be terribly upset. The earlier sightings were cause for optimism but now the trail seems to have gone cold. I agree we have had a terribly cold spell here but luckily the south east and south west were warm in comparrison to other places, it hasn't gone much below zero even at night. He could just have survived. It really depends on if he found good shelter or has been found by someone who perhaps hasn't seen your ads. If he has been in a wood - that is quite a well sheltered area. I believe that the hungrier and colder he got the more likely he was to seek out human contact. Parrots have been found after a couple of years I believe though I'm not sure about in the UK. Never give up hope though. My thoughts are with you.
  12. All these new mod announcements remind me of the queen's new years honours list which is announced new years eve every year! Congratulations Jay & Maggie, it couldn't happen to nicer people.
  13. Jimmy, Beau is almost a year old now. Why don't you introduce yourself in the welcome room if you haven't already done so.
  14. Oops, sorry I should've noticed that. Great photos nevertheless.
  15. Thank you Dan. The point is, our government is guilty of doing nothing - the same as other governments. DEFRA is our body in charge of animal welfare matters and I believe it is DEFRA who police the weaning law. The trouble is, what is in it for the governments of the world, no money for sure! Do I sound cynical? I am!
  16. Oh wow, what impressive pictures. Photography is obviously your forte'.
  17. Sounds like you had a good birthday with some super gifts. Lucky, lucky you going on holiday. Have a great time and take some pics? ;-)
  18. Do you still talk to her Bernie? Maybe she has "forgotton" if it is only sounds she is hearing. Is everything else normal?
  19. What a heartwarming story Dan, Dayo is so sweet.
  20. It all depends on whether or not you feel your fid is getting enough calcium, if he is eating pellets he probably is, if not then he may not be. Beau doesn't eat very many pellets and so I put cuttlebone in his cage, he doesn't eat a lot of it but it is also useful for beak sharpening. It's personal choice.
  21. Hi Jimmy, my Beau is also a bit of a twitcher. When he does it, it often lasts for a while but then he goes a while not doing it. I have put it down to some form of irritation like new pins (feathers) coming through. I don't concern myself with it although like you I was a little concerned when he was very young like yours. I think all birds do this just some more than others. Try not to worry about it.
  22. I have to agree with both Janet and Jill in that a booklet isn't going to help in the case of uncaring ownwers that simply can't be bothered. I obviously haven't explained myself very well, I'm targetting those who care but for whatever reason don't have the resources to find out what to us now is obvious. I know these people exist - I know some of them, indeed I was ignorant to the dangers 15 - 20 years ago when we had the tiels. Sheila has "hit the nail on the head" re vets, most who only know about cats, dogs and livestock. I remember bringing Beau home and thought it would be a good idea to register him with my local vet who is virtually on my doorstep. What did the receptionist say to me? "Is Beau a cat or a dog"! They simply have no knowlwdge of anything more exotic. I didn't even know that avian vets existed - nor would I without the internet. Many elderly people (my parents included) don't have computers in their homes. Jill touched on breeders, it seems Harvey's breeder is a good one, unfortunately all breeders aren't and some people are not prepared to travel hundreds of miles to find a "recomended" one. Some breeders and pet shops have to be forced to do what's right by laws being in place. I really don't see why anyone would be against this, it can only be a good thing to be armed with more information, correct information at that which as Sheila says, isn't always forthcoming on the internet. New legislation could potentially save hundreds of birds lives - every year. How can anyone be against that?
  23. I'm sure me did miss you and this was his was of showing his delight on your return. I wouldn't look into it any deeper than that, just enjoy all the adulation ;-)
  24. LOL yes I did notice it looked like I was getting the middle finger treatment  but in fact he was covering his beak with his talon and it was just how I cought him.....I think
  25. LOL Thank you katana, I think he will always be "moody" but hopefully he will improve towards me in time.
