{Feel-good-00020114}He's just being playful!! I had a budgie for 16 years. They are great! The only thing I would do is make sure the perch isn't too high for him. He can hurt himself if he falls! By the way.. what is your new budgie's name?

Don't be discouraged dhorje! Sometimes it may take some time before they enjoy a new food. It is part of the process. Is it possible to freeze what you made in small portions and offer some later on?{Feel-good-00020114} Don't give up and keep trying. Which recipe did you try? I would try spiking the recipe with your grey's favourite foods. In my case I also add chopped up pieces of Harrison's powertreats and my Emma loves it! By the way.. the mash doesn't need to be heated up.. but mine likes theirs warm.

Congratulations on Mango! She is adorable looking. Some babies will be nervous and fearful no matter how much handling/attention they received by the breeder. I don't think that there is any simple explanation. You didn't meet her before you purchased her? Anyway, If the avian vet stamped her healthy then that's a very good sign and a great start in life for her. She's just going to need a lot more patience and reassurance from you.. but I'm sure you'll do fine! You are willing, motivated and you have a big heart! So... how many parrots do you have now?B)

I know you must feel bummed about this situation but there is a chance that she may never interact with you the way she initially did. Sounds like she clearly has a preference towards the male gender. All I can advise is that right now she needs acceptance, patience, respect, gentleness and alot of time from you. I would just take a step back and behave like I am meeting her for the very first time. She's just gone through another traumatic life change by moving in with you. She needs an adaptation period and lots of understanding. Perhaps you can hang out around her without touching her for a few days or weeks so that she can see that you're harmless. Try reading aloud and and singing to her. Let her watch you go about your usual business. When you do approach her talk softly, do not use any abrupt movements, be the one to offer her favourite treats.. etc. Take it slow. Are you willing to do what it takes to make her comfortable around you and to accept that she might always have an affinity towards your husband and sons in spite of all of your efforts? If yes. then I wouldn't be surprised if in time she comes around. Goodluck!{Feel-good-00020114}<br><br>Post edited by: lovethatgrey, at: 2009/05/13 02:49

Tobie sounds hilarious. I love his dry humour!{Feel-good-00020114}

I would physically remove Adaya away from Tyco's cage to give Tyco her privacy and her space. Tyco's cage should be her own private and safe sanctuary.

I purchased a book called " Breaking bad habits in parrots" by Greg Glendell. It is a very good book to read. http://www.greg-parrots.co.uk/index.php

I give Emma 1 to 2 almonds a day and she savours the whole nut. Nothing wasted.

{Love-0002011E}Everday I sing a song or two to Emma and Sachi when spending alone time with the each of them. Emma really enjoys these moments at my office desk while she just sits very still on my forearm and listens quietly. She knows her children's songs very well because she listens to them everyday while hanging on her Atom and chatters loudly to herself. {Feel-good-00020114} This favourite pastime keeps her occupied for a good 30 minutes while I do other things around the house. Tonight during our alone time I decided to insert her name into the song .ie Old Macdonald had a farm Ee i ee i o and on that farm he had an Emma ee i ee i o With an Emma, Emma here and an Emma, Emma there Here an Emma, there an Emma Everywhere an Emma ee i ee i o! and so forth.......... The experience was so amazing. When she heard her name included in the song she just perked up and looked at me as if to say Wow!! Wow!! Wow!! that's amazing! My name is in one of my favourite songs. It was incredible to witness Emma recognize hearing her name in the song and noticing that the lyrics were not the same as usual. What a smart cookie! {Love-000200C2}<br><br>Post edited by: lovethatgrey, at: 2009/05/12 03:48

{Feel-good-00020114}Emma is very not destructive.She's never destroyed anything that wasn't meant to be destroyed and when she does destroy..it is only her toys She pretty much destroys like a little lady. She prefers to hang upside down, climb and swing wildly! I think I expected her to be alot more destructive and I admit that alot of how Emma is and what she does, goes against alot of what I read about greys. Chewing or Molting?? Pic included . . .
lovethatgrey replied to jlandsiedel's topic in The GREY Lounge
It's really hard to say based on just that picture. Perhaps she is going through a serious molt. Some parrots just look alot more shabbier than others. Although I must admit it's not obvious to tell whether my parrot is molting unless you look at the downy feathers on the floor. Would you be able to post other pictures... that include her whole body? On another note .. if your parrot has any type of infection then they should be seen by their avian vet as quickly as possible. Have you taken her to the vet yet? -
Any kind of interaction will be enjoyed by your parrot. I often read the newspaper to my Emma.<br><br>Post edited by: lovethatgrey, at: 2009/05/11 03:45

Adaya is so pretty in that picture!{Feel-good-00020114} Ann Marie, I agree that it's a good idea in your case to wait until you've had some hands on experience with Alex before thinking of taking a second one. African greys are definitely high maintenance parrots in every sense of the word, especially if you wish to do it right. He looks adorable in that picture. Glad to hear that the whole family is spending as much time as possible with him. Being comfortable and familiar with all of you will definitely help alleviate his stress when it is time for him to come home to you.

Yay!! That's wonderful to hear! Those were Emma's first words also and now she says them on a daily basis.{Feel-good-00020114}

I finally got Bingo to help with the housework!
lovethatgrey replied to ajlinva's topic in Photography & Video Room
He sure is cute! Bingo seems better at creating housework! -
This is a really nice site. I've already tried the mash but used only dried beans and legumes instead of the canned ones. I also tried the Candied apple recipe and my flock devoured the fruits of my labour and had a really great time too!{Feel-good-00020114} I also discovered that my Emma really enjoys Hot Peppers! For those who don't know this.. don't worry! Hot peppers are perfectly fine for our parrots. They are able to enjoy them alot more than we can because they lack the specific receptors which detect the burning sensations. If your parrot chooses to eat hot peppers their stools will be a little runnier than usual. http://www.buffaloparrot.com/parrotfoodrecipes.htm

looking good!

Maybe there is something in his environment that is scaring or stressing him. Has there been any changes? Maybe it's the location of the cage? I'd investigate a bit more.

Once Emma did that by mistake... and she looked digusted with herself.
