4. Ahh! She likes privacy. It's a bit like her security blanket!{Feel-good-00020114}
5. Thanks Guys!! She really is very sweet! In December, instead of the usual holiday gifts, I intend to put together calendars with pictures of my parrots. I think they will make very meaningful gifts!{Feel-good-00020114}
6. {Feel-good-00020114}These pictures touch a special chord inside of me because they really capture the essence of her personality. Hope you like them too!
7. He is adorable! Good for you for wanting to provide the best care possible for him!
8. First and foremost I recommend taking your parrot to an Avian veterinarian in order to rule out any medical causes. This is imperative. Is your parrot getting enough darkness and quiet undisturbed restful sleep? This means between 10 and 12 hours at night. The other thing I'd like to suggest is to read these 4 articles. They are very informative and will give you a better understanding of what your african grey needs on a consistent basis from YOU. It will give you a chance to reflect on your current situation and make necessary changes to provide this for him/her. http://www.africangreys.com/articles/greys/society.htm http://www.africangreys.com/articles/overview/understanding.htm http://www.africangreys.com/articles/nutrition/healthygrey.htm For the below article - please pay special attention to the section about "Meaningful Time". It is very important for the emotional and psychological health of your parrot. Good Reading!{Feel-good-00020114} http://www.birdpulse.com/content/view/149/113/ Post edited by: lovethatgrey, at: 2009/05/16 22:41

Post edited by: lovethatgrey, at: 2009/05/16 22:44

Egg

I fed scrambled egg once to my flock. I don't think they thought it was anything great but I've seen other parrots devour scrambled egg like it was the best thing on earth. Apparently cooked egg is safe to give our parrots so I will attempt again some day. I already made my 3 servings for 8 weeks worth of birdiemash tonight. I will make make a mental note to add a boiled egg next time with the shell!{Feel-good-00020114}
11. Sounds like he is bonded to you! The next step is regurgitating for you!:sick: This is cute when they are babies and harmless, but when he becomes an adult I wouldn't encourage it.
12. Glad that you decided to post again.{Feel-good-00020114}. It sounds like you've done alot of reflecting. I respect your decision and reasons for thinking you have to go in this direction. I also understand that you have very mixed emotions about the whole thing and are somewhat disappointed that things worked out this way. You will probably question and doubt yourself for a while.. but that's perfectly natural and completely understandable! I also believe that if your heart and mind are not fully determined to make it work, then it probably best to find the right home for Rico. Having parrots as pets really isn't easy. It takes alot of work but I have to admit, I LOVE my parrots and all the efforts that I put into making our co-existance pleasurable is completely worth it. Sort of like the way you feel about your dog! On another note, my grey Emma is pretty quiet but I did feel that I needed to purchase earplugs a month or 2 ago because there are times when she makes me feel that I may lose my hearing one day.:blink: in my case it just isn't a constant shrieking thank goodness. Regardless, I am very happy with my Emma and very happy with my earplugs! As long as I have parrots, I will continue to have earplugs. Anyway, druing the time that Rico is still with you. please feel free to continue posting here for some advice or to share. After all, this is what the forum is for. 13. Hi Birdlover, First and foremost, thanks for taking the time to post here. I applaud you for your courage and your desire to do what is best for your african grey. In addition, I'd like to apologize for any uncomfortable feelings you may have experienced here.{Feel-good-00020114} I can sense that your're feeling really exasperated, frustrated and possibly misunderstood. Very often on a forum like this one, the advice and good intentions of the people posting can sometimes get ovelooked. This occurs often because the tone and language used towards the receiver seems very judgemental, patronizing and opinionated rather than helpful and supportive. The majority of us are merely virtual strangers with one specific commonality and that is our interest in African greys. So I hope that you haven't given up on posting here and will give it another chance. Now about your grey, it is my opionion that 1 or 2 hours a day is fine once in a while when you are extremely busy that day, but not for the majority of the time. The more out of cage time.. the better for the physical and psychological health of your parrots. The other matter is the screaming, Parrots are very social creatures. You are part of his flock. When you leave, he most probably feels like you are leaving him. What I would try to do is tell him that I am leaving before I leave and that I'll be back. Greys tend to like to know what is going to happen in advance. So just explain that you are "going to the kitchen for a bit, but I'll be back" It will take some time but try leaving for short increments. Like about 30 seconds and increase gradually. If he remains quiet.. lavish lots of praise on him! They adore flattery! Last of all, would you be able to tell us a little more about how you came to have this grey in your life, how long you've known him etc.. so that we have a clearer idea of what the situation is? I can only imagine how nervewracking and ear piercing his screams are but I don't wish to give you any simplified answers. I believe screaming issues can be worked on but it does take time, work and consistency on your end if you are willing.Thanks! Here's an article that you may find useful to read http://www.africangreys.com/articles/behavior/screaming.htm Post edited by: lovethatgrey, at: 2009/05/15 19:45 Post edited by: lovethatgrey, at: 2009/05/15 19:49 Post edited by: lovethatgrey, at: 2009/05/15 19:50

Post edited by: lovethatgrey, at: 2009/05/15 22:04
14. I would just ignore her and turn the other cheek! Just laugh or smile. Is she so important in your life that her perpective should matter? She's entitled to her views and her opinion and thank goodness you don't share the same.{Feel-good-00020114}
15. What a cute name! Welcome aboard!
16. Emma's Loves her Perch! It is really her favourite one and probably very comfortable. The site that offers it is only in french.. but I was able to get an email address and the owner does speak english - She is very friendly and personable. I am certain that she'd be able to ship this internationally and obviously you'd have to pay for the shipping costs, but you can be certain that she isn't going to gouge you. You'll just be paying what the postal service or courrier service charges. She just doesn't have an english website at the moment. All of the toys, swings and perches on her site are made by hand by her husband and are of SUPERIOR quality and the toys are Generously Loaded with fun chewing pieces!! I doubt you'd find toys of better quality on the commercial market. Here is the site and Here is her e-mail address for those who wish to contact her. For an african grey sized parrot - I purchased Medium! Here is her email address and by the way, her name is Jacqueline. ouellet4@hotmail.com {Feel-good-00020114} http://www.lesjouetsrosie.com/achats/page13.html http://www.lesjouetsrosie.com/achats/index.html http://www.lesjouetsrosie.com/topic2/index.html http://www.lesjouetsrosie.com/cordenickel/index.html http://www.lesjouetsrosie.com/magasin2/index.html

Post edited by: lovethatgrey, at: 2009/05/15 14:55
17. I know it's frustrating and exasperating but keep trying and never give up!{Feel-good-00020114} She needs fresh Vegetables and Fruits for much needed nutrition. Try to be creative and let her see you eating your fruit with TONS of enthusiasm and regularly. Have you tried a Garden kabob? My parrots love to eat off of this and have a grand old time doing it! The other thing that I use is a foraging toy and stick all kinds of her favourite goodies in there. It is made out of stainless steel and washable!! http://www.naturechest.com/garden-kabob.html http://www.birdsupplies.com/Stainless-Steel-Baffle-Cage-Bird-Toys-p/cai45196.htm Post edited by: lovethatgrey, at: 2009/05/15 14:30

Post edited by: lovethatgrey, at: 2009/05/15 14:33
18. I never cared very much for the baby carrots! Something about the taste that never tasted right and the BRIGHT orange didn't seem very natural! Now I have another reason not to purchase them!{Feel-good-00020114}
19. I have a feeling that Carol is going to get alot of cardio exercise with her 2 little ones!! This gives you time to birdproof your home!{Feel-good-00020114}

22. She's absolutely adorable and A little entertainer! {Feel-good-00020114} You're going to have your hands very full! Thanks for sharing.
23. I'm so sorry to hear that! Is it possible for one of the moderators on this forum to post a huge BANNER on the site about this missing parrot -including pertinent details, location last seen and contact info etc... if found? This is just in case someone happens to find this lost grey and decides to look on the internet. It could really make a difference for this grey and their worried owners. Remember when I posted about the lost pionus parrot? Well it was thanks to the owner of the site who posted the banner on the site that this parrot is with her rightful owner Mike. The person who found the parrot took her to the nearest vet and it was the vet who thought about looking on the internet and saw the banner on the pionus parrot forum right away!! Anyway this Parrot is home and her family is SO HAPPY AND SO GRATEFUL! http://pionusparrot.com/pionusforum/index.php?topic=2247.0

Post edited by: lovethatgrey, at: 2009/05/14 15:33
