Ok. well I'd have to do some reading to learn about the specific essential fatty need requirements of your non african grey parrots. I have no experience with other species rather than an african grey and pionus parrots, however I do know that Macaws also require and benefit tremendously from a healthy high essential fatty diet. Example, nuts, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds etc. I also know a few parrots owner who give palm oil to their macaws a couple of times a week and their feathers are lustrous. I really can't give you a concrete answer about the rest. I do suggest that you speak to your avian vet.{Feel-good-00020114} Post edited by: lovethatgrey, at: 2009/05/19 02:43

Post edited by: lovethatgrey, at: 2009/05/19 02:44

Wow!! You've done a really nice Job and Talon looks amazing! Does Talon fly or climb on to the perch and then hop into the Jollyball? Thanks for sharing. I think that I won't be purchasing the Jollyball afterall. One of my friends saw it and was concerned about Emma developing Eggy behaviour one of these days. Probably won't happen for awhile since she is only 14 months old, but I don't want her to scoping out potential real estate for ideal nesting sites! Definitely don't want to encourage any of that.

Post edited by: lovethatgrey, at: 2009/05/19 02:32

I measured Emma's from one end across to the other. It is 24 inches. It is the Large sized one. The Medium would be ok too if you wish to buy a smaller one. I know this because Sachi has a Medium and Emma hangs out on it everyday. {Feel-good-00020114} This is a hanging gym which will provide your parrots will Lots of exercise and great coordination. As you can see, the perches cross horizontally, vertically and diagonally too. The bars inside are of stainless steel and the cotton is wound very very tightly on it. The construction and quality is impeccable. I love watching my parrots on their Atoms. All parrots can benefit from a bit of palm oil but the amount and frequency given will vary depending on the species of parrot. African greys are one of the parrots who really thrive with palm oil in their diet. What species of parrot did you wish to give palm oil to?

Post edited by: lovethatgrey, at: 2009/05/18 23:20

Yes.. we want to see pictures of their set up! {Feel-good-00020114}. Will they share a cage while young and have separate cages when they are a little older?

Thanks Talon - Could you explain to me about how you make the vet wrap stay in place on the inside? The other thing is how do you attach the other end of the perch to the ceiling. What exactly is holding it. Would you be able to take a picture so that I have a better understanding? Thanks!{Feel-good-00020114}

I am so excited about purchasing the custom made stainless steel cages for my girlies. Yes it will be costly... but it is a one time purchase that will last a life time and I will creating exactly what I want. That pertains to everything! Bar spacing, the door, depth, height, width, playtop, no playtop, etc. I am super excited about offering them them the Freedom Buffet also. http://www.freedomcage.com/original/freedom_buffet.htm My intentions are to have both cages be deep and wide. Height is not so important because they don't really have an interest in spending too much time at the bottom of the cage. I don't really care for a playtop are on top of the cage. My parrots each have an Atom as well a bottle brush hanging gym. The Atoms are available at this site. http://motherpluckinbirdtoys.com/ For those who wish to purchase an idispensable and AWESOME hanging gym, you can purchase it here. http://www.waynesparrotstuff.com/ I believe that I have a very clear understanding of what is pertinent in order to build my cages, as well as a strong grasp on the the specific behaviours of each of my parrots.{Feel-good-00020114} Post edited by: lovethatgrey, at: 2009/05/18 15:23 Post edited by: lovethatgrey, at: 2009/05/18 15:25

Post edited by: lovethatgrey, at: 2009/05/18 15:49

I am SUPER SUPER excited!! I have decided to purchase my feathered babies their own stainless steel cages. They are sleeping right now, so can't do much tonight. Tomorrow I will take out the measuring tape and figure out what specific dimensions I want them to have and just let my imagination go wild. If all goes as planned.. they will have their cages by end of July, August.{Feel-good-00020114} This is where I will order my cage. http://www.freedomcage.com/index.html

I posted about Jollyballs a little while ago. You can purchase them at this site. http://www.pionusparrot.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=2&products_id=96&zenid=f69f10ed2f01a844641da6d6b1a2b8f0 If you purchase from Jan, the Jollyball will be loaded with LOTS of toys and the quality will be superior to anything else you'll be able to find on the commercial market. Emma is getting one in a few weeks when the owner receives her shipment. For now, she has only ordered 6 to see how well they sale. I highly recommend that if you wish to have a Jollyball for Ana Grey then purchase it here. You will get what you pay for and you definitely will not be disappointed. The one that I will be receiving for Emma is a 14 inch Jollyball. That is the size recommended for african greys and parrots of similar size. Anything smaller would not be appropriate.{Feel-good-00020114} By the way, Talon looks awesome! I know Emma is going to have a field day when hers arrives.

Post edited by: lovethatgrey, at: 2009/05/18 04:37

This week I purchased a very interactive Tupperware toy for my Emma. It is much fun to have this quality time with her and pretty fun to watch her be so concentrated. I am teaching her shapes!{Feel-good-00020114} She plays very close attention to what I say and loves it when the toy disappears through the intended slot. What I do is I pick up each toy piece one by one and state it's shape. example, " What shape? ", " Hexagon!" and then I drop it through the appropriate hole. She really focuses during the whole experience and is pretty amazed when the piece of toy disappears through the hole! http://order.tupperware.com/pls/htprod_www/tup_show_item.show_item_detail?fv_item_category_code=21000&fv_item_number=P10054276000

Post edited by: lovethatgrey, at: 2009/05/18 03:27

Hopefully, the majority of us do not ever have to think of giving up our feathered loved ones, however sometimes it is the best choice after all other options have been exhausted. Here is a helpful link with useful questions to ask the potential parrot owner to make sure they know what exactly they are commiting to. http://www.birdbrains.ca/en/resources/health-and-safety/p17096149.html {Feel-good-00020114}

Post edited by: lovethatgrey, at: 2009/05/17 04:46

Yup! He looks like a very big and wide eyed grey! I am so impressed and perplexed by all the advanced babies on this forum. Emma weaned at 23 weeks old and I visited her EVERY single day from the time she was 10 weeks old. Imagine how impatient, tired and exasperated I was. I wonder why it took her so long.{Feel-good-00020114}

Emma gets along with other people and parrots very well! She is great at first encounters and is very approachable and friendly. I think the reason behind this is because she has never been a single parrot in a household. At the pet shop she had to share me every time I visited and when she came home she had to share me with Sachi. {Feel-good-00020114}
