Hi again,
I know you will miss Alex a lot but getting another bird will help you heal quickly.
I got another one around 2 months back, a 5 year old this time, a rehome from a family leaving the country, he is great and so funny but not cuddly as a baby. The baby experience is great though and has no equal...
Anyway for the cleaning , just be sure to clean the house well too, just to be sure that you kill the virus in case it was PBFD cos its really a nasty one and very dangerous for baby parrots. I would dip all the toys and perches in chlorine for at least 10 minutes before washing careflly. I actually washed them in the washing machine afterwards at 90 degrees.... If you have any vents for AC around the house better clean them too cost some feather dust can be hanging in there...check well the corners in your home, there is always a feather here and there and you dont wanna keep any. Also keeping the stuff in the sun for a couple of days is helpful too. I would throw away any left food in order to be on the safe side...
I wish you all the best luck in finding a new baby and I would recommend you go to a good avian vet to make a full blood and feces test to be sure there are no viruses in his blood. By the way in case there is PBFD, the white blood count will be too low indicating loss of imunity...so I would do that at least and please do not buy from the same breeder just in case...
Rana
