Well, I have not slept all night, I have been so moved by Rouges story. I have decided not to wait untill Charlies next check up and made a vet appointment for this afternoon to have his ring removed. The vet has said he will give charlie a bit of sedation as he feels it is less traumatic for him. I am concerned about the anasthetic but feel It is something worth doing right away.

Post edited by: she, at: 2009/01/02 13:22

Hi and welcome , I am sure you will love it hear. I look forward to seing some photos of all your animals.

Barbera Heindrich is very well known and admired. Her methods seem to make a lot of sence to me. Take it slowley and let your grey tell you when to progress.
-
Charlie does not get monkey nuts. I give walnuts, almonds or ceder nuts.

Oh no, please dont blame yourself. You have given that little bird so much time and attention and I know you gave a hugh part of yourself aswell. You had him to the vets and gave all treatment advised, what else could you do.My little tiel had metal poisoning but was very lucky, it was picked up imediately and he recovered but it is a fact that most birds do not.It is fatal in most cases. I am sure your vet is as upset as you. As for the breeder, well I hope people choose to spend hard earned money elsewhere. Actually, now I think of it my tiels breeder was far from perfect. I will keep you in my thoughts and preyers . I hope you have a much better year in 09 than the last year has been for you.

Janet, that picture is too cute for words. Ana Grey looks as if she has been at the new year spirits. So cute.

Caroline, sorry you never got out. It was a freezing cold night anyway and you were better off indoors. I spent the night watching tv and relaxing, I had a couple of glasses of wine and quite enjoyed myself. I have spent today cleaning and playing with the birds.

Hi Tammy. You have a great flock. I bet you are so excited to be getting a baby grey. It will be a while before he/she comes home but you can use the time to research all you can and ask any questions you have.Keep us all informed on the babts progress and tell us more about that flock of yours.I have a grey and a cockatiel.

Jessica am glad the nursery is taking responsability. You are so right saying this tragedy has brought to question the safety of bands.Rouge has achieved this in his short life.I for one will have Charlies band removed when he next goes to the vet. I wish you all the luck in the world with the new macaw, I am sure he will help ease your pain. Good luck and best wishes Sheila

In my view if a breeder is up front they will not object in any way to you asking questions and checking up.They have no reason to take offence. I would ask away and if the breader is not willing to give the information look elsewhere.

Post edited by: she, at: 2008/12/31 18:16

Greys love who they love. They can have very different relationships with the diferent people in the household. The person who feeds and cares for them may or may not be the favourite, it could be the person who plays with them or be as simple as they like a persons energy level. Usually they adore a person who is calm around them and sympathetic to their moods and needs. They are super inteligent and do get afected b y our moods and energy. I always make sure I am calm and relaxed before going to my grey. I have had many nips when I have handled him when I have been rushed or excited or even stressed. He has picked that up and acted in the way greys do. Greys can also be very protective of their cage. Hi. Well done you for realising that the so called experts advise and methods do not work for your bird. Greys are very complex sensitive birds and having been in his situation in the pet store, two months is not long enough for him to adjust.Patiance and time is the key with greys. I actually think from your post that you were doing pretty well without the so called expert.Let your bird have space and time and dont push,go at his pace.It may take a long while but believe me it will be worth it. I am not sure about the wisdom of obtaining another bird, Cockatoos are very hard work and so demanding.Greys are very different to toos and many greys will not tolerate cuddles but have there own way of showing love and affection and comunication. I think Reagan needs lots of time , patiance and tlc. Good luck and let us know how you get on.

Hi Mandy. You have got yourself a beautiful grey. I wish you and Lilo all the best in your new life together. I would not worry too much about the feathers, and for now just ignore any nipping. She is probabley still getting aquainted with her new environment.Try and take note of her body language and you will spot what she likes amd dislikes and when a nip is coming. Ask any questions you like and I am sure you will get some good advise.

Wow you sound so excited. Changing the diet can take ages and can be so frustrating.Kep offering the fresh food and see how it goes. Charlie would never chuck his carrots, they are his favourite.I make fresh mixes for Charlie and store them in bird size portions in the freezer and just de frost in the microwave when needed. It saves on time.

When feeding my birds human food I go by the idea that if it is healthy for me then its ok for them in small quantities.Charlie loves fish and chicken and pasta and scrambled egg .The tiel is not really a hugh lover of my food and preferes dry shredded wheat or bits of apple or greens.

Dan give Kim my best wishes and a big hug. I will spend the new year at home.I am not a great fan. I will enjoy some wine and chocolates.

You do have your hands full. I bet your house never has a dull moment. I can just picture the poor dog running from the cat. I am glad the dog found a good home . -
Charlie is like any typical child, get them expensive presents and they play with the box. He will go on his new stand as long as treats are there but once they are gone so is he. He is now captivated by half a coconut I hung in his cage,he is made up with it.

Thanks for the update on zeus. He sounds like a real fun boy to be around. My grey and my tiel both enjoy bath time in the kitchen sink with a spray bottle.

Post edited by: she, at: 2008/12/30 20:42
