Help!

I think as Dave said your little grey is growing up. Some do not like cuddles and very close contact as they mature. Is she clipped? if so consider letting her wings grow so she may just regain some confidence.

Post edited by: she, at: 2009/01/05 21:43
3. Ok I know just how you feel. I totally understand your anger. Please take notice when I say the best form of action is DONT GET MAD GET EVEN.I strongley advise you against any contact with this person, if you can take any legal action this will not look in your favour. Compile a detailed dossier including purchase documents, vet bills and records and yes print outs of your posts on this forum. They at least prove you tried everything to help Shadow. Then look at what legal help is available. Write to all parrot magazines, telling shadows story, even your local media but please show no wish for physical revenge. It will only lesson your cause. It is the authorities who need to deal with this person NOT YOU. Give Shadow one last gift of love and do this the right way.

Post edited by: she, at: 2009/01/05 21:21
4. First day back at work today so 5am start. The roads were terrible. I dont think they had been gritted so my little mini slid to work. Charlie is in a sulk because I am back at work and is on a sit in, he wont come out the cage. When I got home I vacumed and dusted and put washing on sorted out the cages and had a weight watchers meal for my tea, yuk. Haley you are so lucky being tall, I am a real shortey and if I put a pound on it looks like a stone. I weighed myself today and I am 53kg . That is disgusting for my height. I ran a lot untill last summer and I am fighting a loosing battle. I have insomnia as well but wake up at 3am almost on the dot. I blame the shift work I do.
5. What a sweet baby. Pictures like this always make me want a baby grey.
6. My grey was clipped when I got him. He is now fully flighted and has been for a good few years now. without doubt it is better to leave fully flighted if at all possible. I have had my tiels wings clipped because he kept flying to the grey but by the time warmer weather returnes he to will be flighted and can spend time in the outside aviery to get his exercise.
7. I think it is a good idea that you have an upcoming vet appointment. As Dave said it could be some change in his environment, Christmas decorations? change of ruotine over the holiday period? more activity in the house hold, any number of things but I would rule out any physical problems with a vet. I know the few times my grey has behaved out of character he has been found to be ill.
8. I agree with Judy Keemo and Kiki are great names.
9. Besides Charlie my cag I have Cracker the cockatiel. I have had all sorts of animals in the past, rabbits, dogs, cats, horses.I cant imagine not having animals in my life.
10. Give Kim my love and best wishes. Hope she does not need surgery. Look after yourselves. Sheila
11. No Its a new one on me. Maybe some aloe vera oil is needed:laugh:
12. Yep the bottle will be out to celebrate Dave. I dont need much of an excuse. Mandy your grey is a very good bird eating all those good veggies.

Post edited by: she, at: 2009/01/04 12:26
13. Broccoli is a very nutritious veg for greys and I cant see it doing any harm. You are lucky he loves it. Just watch he does not eat that much so he wont try other things.
14. Papaya is one of Charlies favourite food. I have not fed most of the other food you mentioned
15. Hi keep a close watch on your greys leg if it is swolen. Charlies ring was removed yesterday and He has not limped nor has he had a swollen leg.
16. Charlie shouts Hello Cracker, come on, hurrry up, were are you.Cracker what you doin. Cracker the cockatiel is a little bemused by it all but gives back as good as he gets and shouts hello charlie charlie back, why he always shouts Charlies name twice I dont know but it is so funny.
17. Hayley, great you revived this thread. I love the thought of you walking in on your boss. It looks like you Caroline and myself have a love for the wine. I would love to go to Africa again have a horse again not have to work oh well we can all dream

Post edited by: she, at: 2009/01/02 23:39
18. That is such a heart warming story. You obviousely have a way with animals. They are lucky people like you are around to help them
19. What I mean is probabley a bit of formula on a spoon, say at night just to help the baby feel secure and to top up what it is eating on its own

Post edited by: she, at: 2009/01/02 23:17
20. My cousin has a 40 odd year old wild caught grey, who is very much my cousins bird,he has owned him all his life. Apart from my cousin, I think I am the only person who can handle Blue, I mind him when my cousin goes on holiday. It is a mystery why Blue accepts me but he just appears right at home in my house with me.I think they just like who they like.
21. As Caroline said the bird is very young. If it is fully weaned, fine but I would think it still needs at least 1 feed a day if only for reasurance and comfort. Adding another bird is always a gamble ,they may love each other or not be able to stand each other. If you purchase this baby do so expecting the worse possible outcome that they wont get on. The chances of them sharing a cage is remote.
22. I am not ashamed to say, this had me in tears.

Pellet vs Seed

Carolyn to me that sounds like a very acurate summing up of the right diet for a parrot. Charlie is on an almost identical diet to that which you describe as the best diet for captive parrots. I was given this diet advise by my vet when I first got Charlie. Thank you for posting this very good advise. I am sure it will be of help to many.
24. I have just got back from the vets with Charlie. I have had his band removed. The vet gave him a quick anasthetic and he is fine, a bit quiet but has eaten some fruit. He also gave him a quick check over and said all is fine. He was happy with his weight and diet and over all condition. I will leave him quiet tonight untill he forgives me. He wanted head scratches before so he is not bearing a grudge.
